Although I can't understand a word of this song, it still sounds beautiful for me. And the modulation makes me feel like it would be Hungarian. I really hope someday I can go to Finland :-)

Finnish/Suomi and Hungarian/Magyar both belong to the same language family (Finno-Ugric).

Laulun viimeinen säkeistö on muuten 11. Ymmärrettävistä syistä Maamme-runoa ei yleensä lauleta kokonaan. (Toinen säkeistö alkaa "on maamme köyhä ja siksi jää", 11. on "sun kukoistukses kuorestaan.)
Täällä ulkomailla lämmittää sydäntä kuulla tuttuja lauluja. Tulee mieleen muistot Suomen kesästä mökillä silloin ennen.

Yes, it is recorded in the beginning of December, Finland's independence day is the 6th of December, and that is a rather cold season of the year. This is filmed in a historical part of the former capital Turku, a stone's throw to the south-east from the Turku Cathedral, by the side of Åbo Akademi.

As an English/Australian I love the Fnnish national anthem but I can sing it with more enthusiasm than that crowd seem to employ. Where is the patriotic fervour. Is it because thy are a very reserved people as I have heard.
Finns only sing it with enthusiasm after winning the gold medal in hockey at the World Cup or Olympics, lol. And that's usually alcohol assisted. Finns are very patriotic, but they don't worship the flag as if it were a religious icon. And they don't play the anthem before every sporting event like Americans do.

Sveitsissa 0,5 % puhuu retoromaania, virallinen kieli. Belgiassa 1 % puhuu saksaa, virallinen kieli. Suomi voi jatkuvasti olla kaksikielinen maa :)
