    I love how the clip is like two thirds of the blade length. Good lookin blade! ✌🏼

  • @turtlewolfpack6061

    The coating (based on my experience stripping it) is the equivalent to spray can bedliner that has been applied to a poorly prepped surface. The steel underneath is rough as all get out with deep grinder marks and often metallurgical flaws.
    The coating allows them to skip multiple finishing steps and hide defects very effectively.
    Tops knives are made of common materials that still don't cost a premium and the cheap Chinese sheath they often ship with are worse than actual cheap Chinese sheaths, requiring further cost to make the blade useful.
    The hype people give this company is undeserved and not earned in real life. I love my Prather and the CUT 4.0 but doubt I will ever buy another Tops knife and highly recommend to anyone that asks me to skip this brand for the most part.

    I've always liked the looks of The Prather War Bowie, but that's pretty messed up. I would definitely replace it! You didn't give them your $ for a bent blade! C'mon Tops, do better.

    Tops will replace the knife, no problem. Amazon also has easy returns... I have always liked the look of the Prather War Bowie, and have plans on getting one. I have a Power Eagle 12 and if it is the same coating, it is quite durable. When the large bowie called the Atrox came out from Condor, I got one and the blade was more bent than yours. Instantly returned. I have several Condor machetes, and that was the only time I got a bum blade from them. When Bark River put out their 1V machete, I got one, and guess what? Bent blade... I returned it and it took the clowns at Smokey Mountain about 2 weeks to process it back and they were sold out so I couldn't get another one. Oh, all the new Tops Knives seem to have kydex sheaths while the older models have the garbage sheaths... Sorry about the disappointment with the blade!

    • @nothim7321
      @nothim7321 3 месяца назад +1

      @jessr.2490 It pretty much does everything you would expect a knife this size to do. It chops well enough for its size, though not great. Leaves big damn holes in soft organic materials at least 7.5 inches deep easily, even if organic materials are covered in heavy cloth. Would make a great dispatch knife for hogs being held by catch dogs. Does well enough against light brush. Cuts zip ties, 550, ratchet straps a treat. Fast in hand, love the balance. Sheath ain't great, needs a new one.

  • @qui-gone

    I have been using mine for 2.5 years and it has survived a lot of abuse in a variety of conditions - Himalayas, Indian jungles and Norwegian tundra. The coating will become smooth over usage - at least in my case.
    My only gripe is the sheath - replaced with judex right away. The handle - as per the desginer - needs to be held closer to the pommel.
    Get yours replaced. I'm sure people at TOPS can remedy it right away

    I have an absolute infatuation with the aesthetics of mine, even though because of that finger guard design, I don’t find it entirely comfortable for long term use as compared to my Esee 6 or Steel Will Chieftain. I really feel that if TOPS would release a new version of this knife with a micarta handle that fills out that metal finger guard area, therefore widening the surface area that the forefinger buts up against (and perhaps scallop out the front edge of the micarta on the blade end for a good pinch grip) they would have a phenomenal survival knife design that would be the biggest and baddest on the market in both function and aesthetics (because let’s be honest, it’s the aesthetics that prompted all of us to buy this blade). I freaking love that huge clip but the handle is still the most important aspect of how useful a knife is for a given use. I’d wager that most people who buy these are using them outdoors, first and foremost.

    I have this knife. It does not have that issue. I did reprofile the edge to make it a hair popper. I also removed the coating. I use this knife for bushcraft regularly i find it a pretty good jack of all trades. The swedge actually works well for batoning. Even better than expected but it will bust your batoning stick quick. The guard being part of the profile actually helps alot and gives me a confident purchase on the knife during use. Its not perfect. If you do get a replacement. Give it a better edge and you'll be impressed. I highly recommend taking tops up on their warranty as that is covered. I am happy with mine.
