It’s really a shame that nabil left. They really did have something unique and special. They could have been pretty big if they kept on going. It’s crazy to think their last album was 10 years ago.
You really think they had a unique sound? I loved their album but I can't deny that they had the same screams, clean chorus, scream, clean vocal chorus structure that most of these bands of the time had.
@@Frichilsasta08 maybe not extremely unique but I don’t know something about this album seemed fun and had their sense of humor that not as many bands had at the time.
This was my favorite band back in middle school, I'm 27 now and "You can't spell slaughter without laughter" is still one of my all time favorite albums.

Never really listened to too much ISMFOF, but I remember the SMOSH video and was actually there during the We are the Calvary Days. I was in a local band and we played a show at a venue/church with them called Lifepointe Church down in Homestead, FL. I remember that particular show was like a local festival or something because there were a good amount of bands playing that day and man, he's not lying when he says shows back in those days were great. I remember the crowd and the pit going crazy when they came on, which was shocking to me as a kid in high school, especially since I was new to the local scene and playing in bands. They definitely had something going for them even early on and they were really renowned in the local scene. Good times.
My username for damn near everything since 2010 was inspired by these guys. One of my all-time favorites. Super cool you got such a long interview with Matt!
He def had a crazy unique tone, and the under tracks in their songs were some of the craziest layers. Back in 08 his style is what made me join a band.
I was actually designing a new myspace for ISMFOF back in the day, but then out of nowhere Matt went crazy on MSN, probably drunk and/or high, started rambling incoherently and blocked me out of nowhere. I was even doing it for free and just sending him previews asking his thoughts lmao One of the more random moments of my life. But man I listened to their music so much and they really were pioneers in youtube and comedy music videos. Great memories.
just now seeing the video here man... awesome you got Matt Mehana on (Shout out all to my FL people!) lol I am same age as him and remember their stuff coming out and was so hyped to see I Set My Friends On Fire back in 2009-2010 era really good live.
*just stopping by to remind people that most music that came from the Myspace days, especially I set my friends on fire, attack attack, brokencyde and blood on the dance floor paved the way today for most soundcloud and hyperpop artists. Shits coming full circle fr*
youre such a good interviewer, letting the interview lead itself not forcing some narrative im tired of seeing diy bands get interviewed by people who cant listen, hope you are still around doing what you like!
NGL ISMFOF was the first band I listened to that was screamo and I've been so intrigued by the band since middle school. Loved the hilarious adventures on RUclips along with the 2 great songs with classic Smosh. Honestly so sad I never got to go to a single warp tour ESPECIALLY one with ISMFOF playing. And yeah sad Nabil had to leave the band due to the stress of traveling in a band or school or whatever differences them two may have had. I'm just glad that ISMFOF is still around doing whatever music Matt and the boys feel like doing.
I love both albums they are truly just fun. And matt seems like a cool ass dude. I watched this whole interview and never got bored. I wish there would be more heavy stuff but I support ismfof none the less. Please let me have one more album b4 the end of the world thankx😁😁
It is so true that I Set My Friends On Fire is a gateway into other screaming music. I really did not like any type of screaming with vocals, except I did like I Set My Friends On Fire because it was just different, in the way that he used his voice in so many different ways, the way I decided to people was that it's like his voice is its own instrument even if you don't always understand the words.
I think what really blew up ismof was the weirdness of crank that and the popularity gained through Smosh - I love some of their tracks but I never thought it would ever succeed as a band. Seemed more like an experimental band just having fun and taking this piss of everything. The fact that metal and rock in general (all genres) seems to be dying out also supports this theory, because let's be honest, ismof had a very small niche of listeners.
I'll never forget seeing them at warped 09 in Detroit, of all the scenecore bands ISMFOF was always my number 1 fav and I can't wait to see them live again
Interview more of these dead bands, I always wonder what happend to them, I used to listen to them years ago when I had long hair v necks and skinny Jean's and an ipod

Still Fly cover I think Devil Wears Prada came out in 08-09? oldest one on youtube I could find is the start 2009, but seems like I listened to it before then... like 08.(ruclips.net/video/-cNE_Sm5ALU/видео.html) so about the same time, but definitely they should have added it... I think it was more deals they had in the background with those labels... either way your guys song definitely blew up more than the that album.
No lie, grew up with the band as well. Remember them uploading the “Chronicles Of ISMFOF” videos and the studio video with Travis while recording their first album. But c’mon. Nabil has been out of the band for X amount of years now and Matt and whoever is in the current lineup is just riding the coattails of their first album. They release a single every now and then, but they literally are living off the first record. Where’s Caterpillar Sex?
This interview was great but it would have been better if Matt’s girlfriend wasn’t responding to all the questions it’s pretty annoying she acts like my ex from like 4 girlfriends ago 😂😂
There is a “Queen”, as in the band, of every genre. Ismfof is just that. Fight me, but Is A Real Boy by Say Anything is the “Queen” of the early 2000’s emo/post whatever the fuck you wanna call it.
