This video is absolutely perfect! I am a film maker myself, and my 15 year old brother with autism has asked me to teach him so that he can learn to make his own films. He wants to learn to write stories and scripts, so we’ve been working on it for a few weeks now and this is going to help us so much!

So happy that you're putting a lot of effort into screenwriting 🙌🙌 Honestly, it's the backbone to making a good movie; great directing, acting, and cinematography doesn't matter if the script isn't good.

This is gold! I'd like to advice writers to not be too specific about things like editing and music though. It might make others in the production team feel inhibited and trapped inside someone else's vision. These choices are probably going to be made by somebody else than the writer anyway.

The second part of the video is even more important. Its when we follow the ideas and how they want to be, not considering the audience, it becomes a very true and honest story and how it should be in that world

Best advice I ever received about scriptwriting is "Don't Direct On Paper."
    _EXT. GARY'S HOUSE - DAY_
_With a satisfying SPLOOSH, Gary dumps the rest of the bucket of sudsy water on his Red 1968 Mustang and WHISTLES "ZIPPTY DO DAH" as he cleans his car, oblivious to the happy little blue bird perched on a wire high above the windscreen_
You can visualize this scene in many different ways. You probably already have a Wide Shot in mind, maybe a Dolly Zoom Out to reveal the bird. Let the Directors figure out what to do. Your job, as a writer, is to give the reader brain food. How many jokes can you find in my scene?

Hey brother, thank you so much for making this! I'm putting myself through everything I can to become the Director, Writer, Editor, and Cinematographer that I wanna be. I know the better I do, the less I'll be able to focus on each of these areas, but I want to be the best I can be in these areas to make the stories I wanna make. Thank you for years of being an incredible, life changing resource

Thanks. I am NOT a writer but I have about 5 horror short story ideas in my head. I will try out my ideas using this structure. I've done 4 on my channel but I had to do them off the cuff and it was not easy putting together that way. My latest MOTION ACTIVATED was not even put on paper. All off the dome. It was unorganized and very hard to edit in post but I don't think I did too bad despite unknowingly how to structure my ideas. Once again thank you for you educational videos.

The thing about writing structure is that it is derived after having written a truly great script. So starting a story that matters to you with a structure blueprint will surely make it mediocre. You'll be okay if that's your job and it pays. But otherwise it is about the continuous process of exploration and definition as you move forward from the first impulse that makes you wanna tell a story.

I've written a lot of crap and co-written a lot of other crap. None of which will ever see the light of day. But screen writing has always interested me because of the formatting. The formatting seemingly is intended to keep you from getting too full of your own bull💩. If typical writing is painting with words then screenwriting is a blueprint. At least that how I've always felt. Good one I learned some good stuff.

In a way it's kind of (hilarious isn't the right word... pointless maybe?) that this much effort is put into writing a script only for it to be cut to shreds IF shooting ever actually gets started because of budget, location availability, and so on; and then get cut to shreds again during the edit process because of a thousand other different reasons.
