Bought 4 of them for my and my kids 😊
Your tone on all these are beautiful !!! I would love if you made a longish video of a few of your favourite intro-jams.
Agree re the video on intro-jams
The first mod I did on my Strat was notch the pickguard so I could adjust the Truss Rod without taking off the neck. I use a paint can "lid remover," which has the perfect "L" shaped end to fit into the cross shaped slot of the Truss Rod.
Love the intro. And knowing he details / specs of all the guitars we see you play all the time. :)
The Nito Yellow was my favorite. Hands down. Thank you and as ALWAYS your playing is amazing.
My favourite guitar is my sunburst K-Line with 64 fp pickups. Perfect instrument. I asked Chris to keep it heel adjust (although he could route it with neck adjust, just ask when you order) because I love the clean headstock look. I learned about Kline from this channel. I think I came here to watch some SIRE videos and... the rest is history.
I’m not a fan of taking the neck off to make adjustments either. Then again I doubt too many people would prefer it.
@anthonyottah omg I won!!! I wonder what I could have won??!! Maybe identity theft or something of that ilk??? Oh boy I’m so excited. 😜
We are living in the 21st-century. There’s no good reason for it and don’t get me going on 21 fret guitars or combo lamps with upside down text on the control panels.
Yeah, I can't stand that ! I get they are trying to keep it vintage spec, but I have a tele that I do that with and it's annoying.
You make them all sound great! Ice Blue still my fav all around!
Update after a few more listens… now I like the Yellow the best!!! Could it be the Monty pickups? Does the bridge pickup have a plate?
Nice collection, I would be happy with any one of them. They all sound great!
The ice blue and white are absolutely gorgeous man 😍 I also have the same truss rod style on my jazz bass so I know the feeling of dread doing those adjustments haha
Personally my Schecter Nick Johnston and Strandberg classic are my absolute favorite strat style guitars! Just love the modern alterations on a classic instrument!
Just bought a Tokai Strat of Jake . Golden Sunburst with rosewood fretboard.
Super interesting to hear your thoughts, that's an awesome collection! You had a video a few years back on the Simon Neil strat which pushed me over the edge and I picked one up. I absolutely love it. Thanks for all the great content!
Visually i’d take the white one every time, and to be honest sounds as good as any of the others to me. I know i’d be tinkering with putting the ‘best neck’ on the ‘best body’ with the ‘best pickups’ to create the one to rule them all… but that’s just me. As for me i have 3 or 4 S-shaped objects and still waiting to find the perfect strat. One day, one day….
I love the ice blue looks and tone. The white k-line is also great. I own an American Pro 2 Miami blue with a maple board that’s terrific but the neck has a slightly wider nut width that you notice when you jump from guitar to guitar. I just ordered a used made in Japan hybrid 2 stratocaster in Forrest blue with a rosewood board. Hoping that one will be good and different enough from the pro 2. Thank you for the consistent video content. You’re the hardest working person on RUclips!!
I have a daphne blue K line with hot 60's and a lake placid blue one with 64's and I love them equally. They both weigh 7lbs 2 oz. Best strats I have ever played and I have played hundreds of strats in my life including many what are now called vintage strats but were just used guitars back then.
I am glad you feel the same about body end truss rod adjustment.. That's one thing about the vintage thing that I would rather skip.
Great insights, you should do one for your teles as well.
I just like Strats with the truss rod at the top of the neck.Maple boards over Rosewoods. Tone pot for bridge too.Your playing is beautiful no matter what the guitar is !
Just picked up a used K-Line fixed-bridge "Springfield", which is their name for the "S" style, with their Signature S pickups, having trouble putting it down, it plays and sounds great, and hearing your guitars really piqued my interest, thanks.
All sound good with some little differences. The blue k-line look very nice, it take the light really well, so i think it's my favourite to see you playing with.
When distorted all sound pretty the same. In clean, I like the grey one since it seems to have more clarity and the others are more compressed.
Hello John,
welcome to the "Owner Club"! :)
I have Xotic HSS (white, maple neck,5A grade, roasted), Suhr SSS (red, roasted, rosewood neck), Fender reissue vintage 59 Stratocaster...
...and others but not" Strats". :) All sounds fantastic!
I like the sound of the white and blue K Line!
My next acquisition is a Tele. Can you recommend K Line instead of the Fender custom shop or something in this range of quality?
Maybe some clean sound demo with your K-Line tele would be much appreciated!
It is relatively hard to find K Line guitars here in EU.
My best!
The Vintage Yellow K-Line is the best sounding out of these. With some Lollar 64's or Fender Ultra Noiseless or Michael Landau Noiseless pickups in that Ice Blue K-Line and it will come to life and be better than the Vintage Yellow K-Line.
I’ve only seen a couple of your videos. The American vintage ii & the Yamaha Pacifica videos. So I had no idea blue & white were K Line guitars. The blue one especially sounded dead to me and the white I thought similar.
The Cream one was absolutely fantastic.
Amazing playing and tone unreal.
On looks, the shoreline gold has always easily been my favorite of these. Liked it so much I went out and bought a shoreline gold body from Warmoth. Never noticed the board being lighter on that until now. But I can totally understand your issue with the neck. I’ve had guitars I’ve really wanted to love because they look so good but ultimately if I don’t like the neck that’s the kiss of death.
Blue is not a color I would have gravitated to but that guitar has really grown on me as I’ve seen you play it so many times. White is another one that I’ve never cared for but aged Olympic white, especially with a mint green guard is a great look.
The Nitro Yellow is my personal favorite on the neck pickup. It has the chime without the harsher top end that I hear from all the others.
The ice blue sounds the most balanced on clean. The others sound bright or quite bassy, all nice. I love the white one. My favourite strat is my American Pro One, is my only strat.
Through my better-than-decent computer speakers every guitar sounds essentially the same. They may feel and play differently, but sound-wise they're interchangeable.
I like to use the grey ultra fine scotchbrite pads to knock some of the gloss off of the nitro necks. My fenders with gloss nitro necks all had the same tacky experience your 57 does.
The grey scotchbrite is the equivalent of 00 steel wool and doesn’t seem to affect the finish too much beyond just getting more of a satin feel. Especially if you plan to keep the 57, that may be something that would work well for you.
for that sticky nitro neck I used some 0000 steel wool and it worked beautifly. nice video thanks. I have no experience with k line and im going looking now lol. Great play by the way
Great info, thanks 👍 brilliant content as ever! Keep going buddy
Before watching this video I was looking for a Les Paul copy because I already own a MiM strat. After watching the video I just bought myself another strat. Wife won't be happy lol
Your Strats all sound good. I don't like the headstock on the K-lines, but if I had one and I liked the sound and how it played, I would be happy with one! I have a Fender Standard from 1993, which has had about 6 pickup changes, because of the different projects, but is still my favourite and has Jumbo frets. My other is a Japanese from 1988 which now has Jimi Hendrix signature pick-ups and a switch to blend the bridge with any other to get some Tele sounds for my funk gigs! It's interesting because Jimi played the start, with the pickups upside down, so the pickup config is like that, which to me makes more sense as I never understood why the pole pieces on the higher strings are staggered lower! So it's a more unique sounding Strat.
7:57 - "if you remember the British racist green" 💀😂
I own a Fender Custom Shop in Aged Shoreline Gold that I truly love. Just like yours it has a roasted maple neck, 60s C profile with 12 inch radius and jumbo frets. Heavy relic and with a tort guard. My very deserved number one.
🤤
@@Drtydeeds if it's a good guitar who cares mr "People saying that there's differences are listening with their eyes"? Real glass house comment.
@@TCMx3 lol the truth is hard to accept, I understand.
@@Drtydeeds "I'm not owned, you're owned" lmao get a life
I think the green Sire S7 is by way the best guitar you’ve got ! Just sounds and looks fantastic !
The rest are a big meh ! For me 🤪😎🤔
Wow have I won a guitar !! 😊
I heard them the same as you. I was really surprised how similar the blue and white k line sounded considering one has lollars and the other has k lines.
You've definitely got me interested in Lollar pickups. As I recall they don't sell a set called Dirty Blonde on their site. It's a special blonde at the bridge and vintage blonde at neck/middle? I'll check out the K-Line and Monty's.
so melodic playing WOW!
The Blue One just sounds fabulous❤
Blind test if you can tell the difference?
People saying that there's differences are listening with their eyes. No shot in a blind test anyone could tell them apart.
@@Drtydeeds I happened to have the video on another tab while working, During the intro I noticed that one of them sounded brighter than the others, more to my liking consistently through that section. The rest I would be hard pressed to say were different enough inherently that his playing technique did not steer the tone toward what he was hearing in his head. And to clarify. the second Clean guitar set of strummed chords was the one that stood out to be brighter and more strat sparkly to me. Confirmed just now when I watched it to see which one that was, which apparently was the Gold one. And I would have expected the last one to not be a Fender.. as it sounded rather midrangey in comparison to the Gold K-Line.
@@christopherjbutler 👍🏽 I’d be interested to know if all the guitars are setup identically (pickup height relative to the strings being the most important) and if they all have the same pickups. That may explain any variance.
@@Drtydeeds Give the video a watch all the way through, he lists the different pickups in each guitar and discusses some of the variances he notices from his perspective. He specifically has chosen to have different pickups in each of his K-Lines, some from K-Line (chris) and one from Lollar, another from Monty's. I believe he has his guitars set up by Monty's, not sure if all of them have been done there. Check out That Pedal Show channel and search for Monty's and you will see the Refret they did on Mick's vintage strat, you will see exactly how they do a setup, if I remember correctly, although Mick likes to have his trem HARD decked, which I hate...
They all sound very good! I think my ear leaned towards the Olympic White Strat.
Fender should give you another Strat that more matches your preferences. My favorite Strat I ever had was a black on black '78 that sadly burned in a fire. I've had a few American Standards since then and sold them off and on a whim bought a Squier 60's CV and it's my favorite I've had since the '78.
Ever give Suhr a shot? Assuming they’re not very readily available across the pond.
They all sound great !!!! Surprised you didn’t place your PRS Silver Sky in there
If you do ever get another springy, I would try a roasted pine body. Mine is crazy light and really resonant. It makes my yellow one feel like a brick.
I was surprised how close the the yellow and ice blue sounded clean. Easily my two favorite of the bunch.
It's always a joy to see Blue. White would be next.
"I'm not going to peg a guitar"...
I'm still laughing at that...
Great video as always
Don't take the neck fully off to adjust the truss rod, just loosen the screws so you can tilt the head back and access it.
I own 6 Strats (5 Fenders) and the best one is a G&L
Tribute legacy? Or S-500?
@@kanjinha Fullerton S-500
You might wanna do fender master pro presets.
Shoreline cuts and jumps in front the most but I prefer the warmth and roundness from the yellow. Not to say that yellow doesn’t cut.
What a fantastic video have a good weekend
curious your thoughts on strings , what you like and why?
The E/A strings on my Springfield have just started getting a bit buzzy up to about the 7th fret. It’s only just occurred to me after watching this that it might be weather related!!
Do you bother having them adjusted? Or should just ride it out until the weather improves?
I wonder if you really notice a difference in playability on the Fender since it has the smallest neck radius (?)
So is the gold/silver k-line a thicker neck than the rest? Or is it opposite? Also is it for sale?
@7:57 Is British racist green really a colour? Thanks for the chuckle
For me in these samples The Cream one gets first.
it would be great for the Xmas break if you could do a .."how i create my backing tracks" not a tech thing.. more from the ideas and how you put them together.. even if its just drums and bass; what was the idea behind that in the first place type thing. im sure alot of us love your music, not just the tones and lead parts. you write great music, that shouldn't be over looked i feel.
Hi John, absolutely love your work. Your guitar technique is outstanding and love everything you do. Great review of your super Strats. I used to own The Strat in Lake placid blue with brass hardware. It was a very heavy guitar though. I think the body is was mahogany and a maple neck. It was made in 1980 and bought it from new. I kept it a few years up until I found a second hand USA standard sunburst Strat 1982. The Dan Smith days I believe. It felt right and sounded great so I sold The Strat to a friend. I still have the sunburst Strat and also picked up a fiesta red 1957 reissue Strat which I love too. I recently fitted Kinman pickups to it which sound great to my ears anyway 😁 Keep up your great work. I also purchased a few of your Helix patches which I very much enjoy. Just wish I were as good as you getting my head round it. Many thanks 🙂 🎸
It’s hard to tell the difference with so much processing effects .for me need to hear them clean into fender amp might hear a difference then 🤔
That's what the intro is basically
I found the yellow one to have a very pleasing midrange
I can't help but wonder if Fender is such a sub-standard guitar why everyone spends so much time making clones/copies.
2022 and so many guitar manufacturer's claim to fame is "I made a better Fender Strat than Fender"? I guess there's a place for flavored water but is any water more pure than the original?
Ibanez AZ for me.
That white strat is a ringer
Comparing k-line prices now to your used steal of $800 is depressing.
Every time I try to pick one of my strats to let go, I play it and remember why I bought it. I have a 59 teambuilt that Id been trying to talk myself into selling but then I play it and it's just 'wow' when I hear it. WRT my strats, my personal ranking is something like, my SVL 61 Reserve and my 96 FCS 1960 relic are at the top, all the rest are in a group together. The single best sounding one is probably the SVL 50s Reserve though lmao, but maple fretboards... BTW I'm on the K-Line list again John, for my birthday next year. I blame you.
The gold one, for me. Love uber bright and strident cleans on a strat.
"British racist green"??
Nearly went past me.
John Nathan, don't you have a black reliced K-Line strat? Or is it gone?
“I’m not gonna peg a guitar” *awkward silence* 💀
LOL!
They all sound the same...you need a super strat/modern guitar with humbuckers. Sounds like the action is too low and strings too light too. I no longer play strats after using them since 1982....
I think i think i think
"British Racist Green", interesting color lol
Fender uber alles ... play authentic!
Just kidding. It's whichever you like the best at the time you are asked surely.
With distortion they all sound the same.
@@briumphbimbles Take off the "with distortion" bit and you're 100% correct.
@@Drtydeeds I mean its a strat, and an electric guitar after that. There is limited variance anyway.
Its not exactly going to start magically acting timbrally like a saxophone or a cello.
Its the same guitar and basically a copy with slight variation of the same type of the same model of guitar.
@@briumphbimbles looks like you wooshed on my comment. I was saying that they all sound the same even without distortion. I’m on your side here. Lol
@@Drtydeeds I know. I was reciprocating that agreement.
British racist green? Eh?
Racist green 😂 Racing green surely 😂
Hi John, my favorite strats in my collection are a Shabat Lynx (swamp ash with Lollar Black face pickups) and two Xotics (an alder body Xotic XSC-2 with RV-60 pickups and a ash body XSC-1 with RV-50 pickups. These 3 strats are great!! If you are serious about letting go your Gold K-line with the soft v-neck let me know, you have my email address!! 😉
Not a strat per se, as it’s not a fender, but since you’re including non-fenders (k-line) in the discussion, I’m LOVING the PRS fiore.
