I really enjoyed this Alex. I slightly disagree that your channel is all about teaching. I think your channel is inspiring and motivating us to get out there. We like to see your growth and relate to it. Don’t be afraid to fail or try new things.
It's not too late for an annual review and it sounds like you had a good excuse! Glad you are better. I love watching folks analyze and learn from their work as it inspires me to do the same. And I'm glad you got more than one portfolio-worthy image a month, which some say is a good goal. Sorry, Ansel. I like your variety and range so, while you discover things you want to change on certain levels, keeping an open mind to style is more creative (and makes for more choices for an interesting calendar at the end of the year!) so don't ever lose that. Learning and evolving as an artist keeps it interesting - for you, and us! Cheers to 2024!
An inspiring video Alex! Thank you for being so candid about your journey as a photographer and for taking us all along with you on your adventures. Happy New Year!
Really enjoyed this video. Very humble. Thanks. It shows that photography is all about the journey, not necessarily the destination. Experimenting and trying things helps you to enjoy and hone your "style". Thanks for sharing your journey and growth. It's inspiring and inspired me to go and practice more to get better at taking landscape photos and editing. 👍🏾
Good morning Alex 🌈 Thanks for sharing your artistic evolution. I may be a bit weird but I like the "I don't know if this will work" moments. Adds some suspense to seeing the outcome. I also think it can give others the courage to try new things and grow too. Looking forward to watching you continue to challenge yourself.
This is a most excellent video, Alex. There is too much to comment on here; I don't want to write a tome, so a couple of things. An artist has to have room to grow. If not, in most cases, the decline in quality from a lack of passion will be quite evident. If you don't shoot for yourself first, your interest will wain, and you have nothing of value to share. I appreciate where you are, Alex, and where you started. Your tool box expands, and your discernment guides you in which tool to employ. Happy New Year, and, Cheers.
Hello Alex, A very enjoyable video, lots of changes for sure. I like the images around 16 minutes in, they’re not that pin sharp look that seems to be so popular with RUclipsrs. It looks like your using more of what nature provides rather than trying to bend it to your own ideas… BTW how many images do you think you’ve shot on average per year?
Alex, perhaps you put too much emphasis on how you're percieved. You are not the "lone stranger" when it comes to feeling a lack of confidence or an inferior feeling. I think there is value, (a definite learning experience) if you say, "I'm not sure about this" and you take the shot(s) and then reveal later in your video, whether you hit or missed. And you then explain what was good or bad. We all go about our photography with expectations. I'm full of self doubt, so full sometimes i get stuck. But we all learn from our mistakes. So take us along when things don't work out and explain why or why not an image lived up to expectations. Just my opinion. I loved the etherreal, misty image. Very painterly. Impressionistic, like a Monet painting.
I’m curious, does your new style of editing impact your linear approach to post processing? Or, do you go through the same steps but just with a lighter touch than before depending on the photo and your end goal?
It's funny. Over the years, you've brought the chroma down in your images. I've gone the other way. Now I'm trying to find a middle ground. I look forward to following your growth.
Some scenes, just lends itself to a good amount of light painting. Others don't. Some times I have a row of captures that I will enjoy transforming. I want to bring out the most of it, if it's something there. But the best I know is when the photo is complete in camera. It's the best feeling, and something I guess we all strive for. But It's hard chasing that all the time.
Great video! Very wise words on being self-aware and knowing how to navigate changes that happen naturally. We're too often bombarded with inspirational wall art catch phrases, like "Embrace change!" It becomes noise to filter out, or some people take it to an extreme that they have to completely redefine themselves on a regular basis, and they insinuate that people who don't completely redefine themselves are somehow stunted or stuck. Your perspective is very based and grounded. I'm glad I found your channel. Thanks for the great content!
Really like this format of video and helpful to see the trajectory of your portfolio. Apparently, I don't know why this is a surprise, but my editing style is just a total ripoff of your editing style.

You're not wrong. I think just being aware of it is important. Thanks Craig

I agree Linda! I tried more "I don't know" this year. Some turned out and some didn't. Glad I get to share it at all
Thanks, I really see how you are keeping your mind open to exploration and growth even if you are sometimes insecure. Good for you!
Thanks!

Great video, interesting to hear you talk about the images!
thank you!
Great video.

removing timelapses it's typically around 10-15k I think?
Super interesting and helpful. How about the difference in videography over the years?
Oh dang. I dunno. I think I spend less time setting up a shot and walking past it? I dunno lol

I try not to overthink those things but being self-aware of them is important too! Thanks Michael

My thought process is the same. Actually if anything it's more linear, just with less touching up or photoshop.
It's funny. Over the years, you've brought the chroma down in your images. I've gone the other way. Now I'm trying to find a middle ground. I look forward to following your growth.
Thanks John!

Haha. Not sure I even have a style anymore
Alex, why don't you have the camera GPS active? All the time my canon 6d has the GPS on.
Don't really feel the need for it! I save battery by not having it on
Rush references, puns, and progression of an artist! Beautiful video
Thank you so much 😀
A nice retrospective. Good luck with your 2024 journeys!
Thanks Brian!
Another great video. I felt this one on many levels.
thanks Kevin
It's a interesting and informative video ❤❤❤. A belated happy new year
