Jennifer I'm a beginner Knitter and I'm an okay crocheter!😂 that last looks really nice! But I would think you would do it with multi colors cuz girl you're a bright girl not a muted girl! That's a really good price for the yarn! I really like the yarn never used it but I really think it looks beautiful and I like the way that two different colors look I think they'd make beautiful objects! Awesome that it's upset 5x that's amazing! I think that would be amazing!❤❤ I think you converted into any top you want to Jennifer because you're just that good at crocheting and knitting this girl could not make any kind of top because I just haven't figured that out yet!🎉

That's what I don't like about being committed to those kits. You never know what you're going to get. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. One can only hope it all balances out in the end. Thanks so much for saying it as it is. Your honesty is refreshing😍💕

I made the Crop Top out of the White Nova Yarn. I help teach crochet classes at the Sr. Center and EVERYBODY wanted it. I know when my daughter sees it she will want me to make her one. I LOVED working with Nova mercerized cotton.

I made a child's shirt for a little girl with the your cropped tunic. I'm using Hershners Mill ends for the same shirt. I'm using a turquoise color way.

It's really nice knitted or for bomber jackets. Warm and substantial. I knitted a blanket with basix in linen color with cabled bunnies and the outer 3 inches and thick stripes in the plum color Respekt. Pairs beautifully with worsted weights
That's why I get the mystery bags. I feel like I get more for my money.
I agree that knit kit was a bust. They really should do a better job with the kits🤷🏼♀️

This is why I stopped getting the Annie’s Crochet club kits. At the time they were $19.99 and they did the same as your knit club kit, $1 yarn for a stocking for Christmas, only 4 balls. I was like “ OH HELL NO!” Cancelled right then and there and never looked back. I can find patterns for free and and buy yarn and still spend less than what they were charging. I love your honesty Jen and I was right with you in your disappointment.🥰🧶🧶🧶🧶👍🏽

That brown variegated would look good as a sock monkey or teddy bear.
I didnt like the monthly clubs at Mary Maxim, but i love the full kits which i have purchased many kni and crochet kits, afghans, sweaters, baby clothes, etc. And recieved very nice yarn. IDEA, when I get yarns i don't like i would fill a box and sell it, or have a raffle for a charity or church.

Perfect yarn for the snake. ❤ I don’t really like the kits. I wish they would do pretty colors with cute patterns. I think Crazy, Sexy, Wool has cute patterns and beautiful yarn but they are quite expensive. 😩 thank you for all you share with us, so very helpful and educational! 😘
Jen, don't forget if you change the top solid part to the Granny stitch, you may not have enough of the lighter color 😮😢

I have never tried the re-specked yarn. The pattern is very nice. I never made more than 4 granny squares. I have yet to make my first wearable. Personally, I would complain about the yarn in the knit kit if I got it. I would expect the yarn value to be approximately close to what I payed. To open up a kit I was looking forward to and than finding something so inexpensive, I wouldn’t be happy about that.
cannot wait to see your top you make out of the kit! I do understand your disappointment in that knit kit. July and August is good time for them to slip lower value kit in.
I will watch when you have it finished. Definitely a late 60 early 70 style. What do the size go up to. Mystery boxes are give and take as well. But most times they have yarn I never would have bought. And that is what I need.

I think the cotton is a good value. The price of all yarn has gone up. I just shopped for cotton for a project & $2 a ball for 50 grams was what I found once 😳 everything else was $3.50 & up. Mostly up.

Pre Covid vs now I have seen a noticeable difference in Mary Maxium kits.
Was an quartly Afghan gal for few years. Covid hit and I was ok with change because everything going on. Substitutes for yarns and longer times for them to send kits out.
But nothing seemed to bounce back and felt that large sales took preference to kit clubs.
The last straw for me... being billed beginning of the month and near end nothing in the mail (they used to send notice saying when it would ship). Sent an email and was told they had till the last day of the month to send it. OK
Last day arrived nothing. Sent another email. Response said there was a special item they were waiting for. Got excited other kits seen they revived pattern books as a gift.
Nother week and nothing. Sent email and was told on hold special hook needed to make kit and they were waiting on shipment. Ok
About 15th seen tracking. Woohoo get to see special kit and hook.... nope.
Revived a kit. Smelled like it was sitting on back of a truck for a month and no special hook. What gives?
Email them after sometime they respond sent replacement kit.
Guess they never recived special hook and also never decided to explain had to contact them! No sorry kit was half month plus late even.
I promptly canceled my sub.
Since I have seen ppl complain of yarn subs in kits without asking and look on your face for knit kit said it all.
But these are my experiences and some love MM. Yarn is worth what value you put on it.❤🐾

I have a tank top pattern that I used the Re-spekt yarn for. I actually used the evergreen color, and that picture was not accurate. I've never had the Nova yarn before.
I love your snake ❤🩹 A few years back my daughter for a Christmas present got me a kit subscription from That Darn Yarn or Annie's. That is how I found Premier anti-pilling yarn LOL Anyway it was a thoughtful gift but it was a do all these squares each month of different stitches but he colors were all cream, tan , ecu, ect. And like you I am a color girl . But half way thru she could not make the payment so I told her to stop. I used the yarn I got from the kits to make her a cardigan! Then bought colorful yarn from Premier and used the stitch patterns to make a beautiful blanket. So that was wonderful. But the price of the yarn was no where near the price of the kit each month. Or the three stitch patterns that frankly I could have gotten on RUclips. I think I prefer mystery boxes because they will have some strange yarn in them and I find it a challenge to see what I can do with them (might take me years lol). Thank you for your honest review of the kits. I am trying to see if these would be fun to try. I think I will continue to watch reviews for a bit before I commit.
I saw another opening of this kit a few weeks ago (crochet). The youtuber read some of the specs on the yarn. If you compare the yarn to what the kit says (unless they fixed it but I doubt it) the specs are different from what the yarn says to what the kit directions say. Now, if I was in your shoes I wouldn't do the kit and just use the yarn elsewhere. Hehe.
I think that vest pattern would make a cute cropped style top. I got the knit kit with blue yarn for the apron and pink for the wash cloth. I’m just going to use all the yarn for wash cloths. I’ve never used this yarn before but so far I’m liking it much better than peaches and cream. I know the kits are hit and miss but it’s still a fun mystery….as long as 60% of the kits are worth it. What a great idea about donating the kits. I have a senior center near me that really appreciate yarn donations.

I got the crochet kit once and I got the same yarn (thread) for a doily. I quit it then.
$11.80 for the Nova I think I would contact them and tell them what I think.
I was doing Mary Maxim and Anne’s and I decided that Annie’s is a better quality.

The plastic zip bags cost too. Herrschners has 4 sz. for sale, 3.99 to 5 or 6 something. The patterns actually cost up to 4.99. I don't know what M.M. would cost. I have to have specific yarns for projects I do. No surprises.
No doubt your the best. That's why I like to watch and learn.
I always appreciate your honesty and your gut reactions. Yarn is always a treat. I like to choose my colors, so though I have done kits and mystery boxes, I find I never get the colors that appeal to me. Every now and then, I will still do it just to see...lol!

Love the yarn from Mary maxim but I have never crocheted a wearable
I am STILL not bistitchual, no matter how often I try to learn to knit. I just get so frustrated and can't figure out what my fingers are doing. I can do Tunisian which looks knit, so maybe I am! 😉 Thx for being honest in this review. If someone wants to get mystery yarn, the Mary Maxim kits are ALWAYS worth it. Thx for the reviews, Jen! 😊👍🧶
Good introduction to the yarn! I would probably alter the design as well. I do knit yet, but I do not like being told what to do! I see the pattern as a place to start! LOL! I get that from my grandmother who was a professional dressmaker who would copy designs from magazines and store displays and alter them to make them more suitable. I got that gene. I did the same with set design for plays etc. in my college years and when my kids were younger. That creative gene may sleep, but it does not die out!

It is not a normal granny square. There is a typo in the pattern. The yarn is correct and the hook is the one suggested on yarn. My square was a sixteenth of an inch off.
Some of the kits that I don't want to do I leave in the packaging and give to the senior center
Hi Jen! I really like your videos and have been watching you for a few months now. Just wanted you to know that I got my first Ommi crochet hook after seeing you talk about them and I love it! It's a 5.5 mm purple resin hook. Not only is it beautiful but it just glides through the yarn. I'm a beginner and am still testing out different hooks and different yarns. Keep up the great work!!❤❤❤
I have belonged to a few clubs thru MM but haven't found them to be cost effective overall.

Maybe you could add one or two more colors of a different yarn to make it a little different on the crochet kit

Thanks, Jen. I saw your review of Re-Spekt yarn a while ago and was impressed with the stitch definition. I finally got my hands on 3 skeins at a terrible price and was thrilled. I might have to see what's clearanced online these days....I'll just tell the hubs Cinnamon Stitches made me do it.

I love Re-Spekt yarn! I agree it's overpriced, but it's wonderful to work with. I made winter hats for my grandchildren athey loved them.
I thought it was masculine too, but don't know a man that would wear this. I like your idea.
I am Canadian I used to get the crochet kit. But the price just was not worth it in Canadian dollars plus shipping. I would pay $34.00 plus shipping it would work out to almost $42.00 a month if I remember correctly. I stopped getting it when I received 6 balls of very thin farm house cotton that was only $2 bucks if I was to buy on line. So not worth it. I loved receiving it every month, I enjoyed the surprise but just not worth it. I wish they would do better kits. 🇨🇦
Hey Jen, surely if the regular price was 3.99 wouldn't that be printed on the label not 1.79? They are definitely scamming there!
You get valuable months and less value months. Does it equal out? I am trying to give grace here. If one month you get $50 worth of yarn for $22 and next month you get $12 worth, you still paid less than $50. It is disappointing if you look at the value month to month sometimes but over all?
