    I put in a Wilkinson bridge in my Squire and I thought the sound and sustain sucked so I changed out the bent steel saddles and replaced them with the solid style with the middle string guide and it improved the sound and sustain 10 fold!

    nice work! You need a sticker or logo to put on the headstock with your name on it now. Or one on the back that says "Modded by Curt."

    • @FlameFlickers
      @FlameFlickers Год назад

      You'd need to be VERY careful about your choice of font if using "Modded by Curt" as your logo.
      A lot of fonts have r's that look suspiciously like n's..

    Great video. Done this a few times myself and will definitely do again as i enjoy the process, only thing is there is absolutely no resale value on a cheap guitar with decent parts as ive found out the hard way 😂

    I'm tempted to do this instead of building a 62 strat but I want a 9 inch radius at nut on a conical (multi radius) fret board. good job, was that a ring modulator and pitch shifting effect?

      I'm afraid you "get what you get" when you order a budget guitar... no guarantee that the description is accurate. You certainly could swap the neck to suit your taste. The sound clips are the "clean amp" in PreSonus Studio One and for the distortion I added their tube screamer in the virtual pedal chain. Glad you enjoyed it.

    It looks like basswood to me. It's got the green/yellow streaks in the grain. I have a basswood TomTop Strat kit that looks very similar.

  • @news603redux

    That isn't basswood, basswood has basically no grain. Looks like Paulownia, strong grain patterns and very light.

      Could very well be, sounds like you know more than me! I just went with what was listed in the description.

      I'm sure, nothing contentious here. Many of the really cheap Ebay guitars say basswood but you can see in their photos that it has grain like this one. I personally love Paulownia, cool grain AND it's often just a bit heavier than balsa wood, light as a feather.@@curtjunky

      @@news603redux Sounds right, this one comes in just under 7 pounds. It feels very light, and I do love the grain.

      The pickups are new, they definitely make a significant difference for the sound of the guitar. The pickups are Fender Custom Shop for a Stratocaster.

      I think he's asking what type of pickups you have. Like Texas Specials, Custom Shop '69's, Alnico 5, etc.

    • @curtjunky
      @curtjunky  Год назад

      Actually I have no idea which series of Custom Shop pickups they are... I pulled them out of a pawn shop purchase. They have the "Fender Custom Shop" logo on the magnet. I reached out to Fender, but they could not help. Sorry.

      Practice and experience. I myself bought a $500 Strat and replaced the pickups and bridge with pretty damn good results.
