Great tutorial, much appreciated! Something I didn't understand when I first watched that might help others is with the newer model which VW and Audi don't make easily serviceable the "easy button" is to use a very small set of needle-nose pliers, select a drill bit or Dremel bit to cut away just enough of the plastic to get the tips of the pliers on either side of the locking pin just deep enough to get a grip on the pin, perhaps 1/8" and pull the pin straight out with the pliers. The pin can be reinserted to put the original case back together. In our situation the key fob had been washed and the panic button was sticking and I just needed to clean out the enclosure.

thanks! I had an old style audi remote (1997) and couldnt find a replacement. SOo I ordered the VW old key you showed, took it apart, put in the chip, made a new key cut and closed it. worked like a charm. The only sad thing is that the circuit is too big to fit in the VW key. back to manual hehe

Good video, thank you. I had the 2nd type and instead of drilling I just punched the pin through the two plastic walls behind it, it went through fairly easy and didn't damage the circuit board.

On the older style of VW remotes 2009 and Older. The key fob can be removed by firmly pulling the two parts appart with a left to right motion. No need to mess with the screw to get to the board or the battery.

Buddy, this video was sooooo sooooo helpful, I did a fob change because the old one was broken and held together with tape, I replaced it but the fob no longer worked and couldn't work out why until I watched this video so thanks a lot BIG TIME. 😁😁😁😁😁

for the newer style key fob I managed to push out the pin
out! I removed the Volkswagen logo from the back. Where the logo used to be, I drilled 2mm deep hole, off the centre, to the right(towards the blade) ! Than I pushed it out with a screwdriver!!

You can take the pin out without damaging anything. Use a small punch and tap it in approx 3mm and you can then push it back through once it’s apart to remove it completely, and then punch it back through again when it’s all back together 👍🏼

fantastic video. and you showed both. older style is pretty simple then for the most part. i panicked bcz i wondered how can you replace with a new casing one of these keys.. but its fairly simple and easy. Luckily i dont have to yet, its worn a bit but still ok. Anyway nice vid.

Hey i have the first type of key you showed but with the Audi logo. So do I have to remove the audi logo? because it be a shame if i remove the logo and there is no screw.
Last question is, is there a way on stiffening the flip mechanism of the blade because mine is quite loose.

  • @vog999

you don't have to destroy, drill out pin or drill two holes... you just need to punch that pin in, it goes all way in (breaks just little plastic piece inside the key case. pin gets all way in and frees up so you can pry it. ANd after you ope your key fob, you can have that pin to insert back when assembling it back

I would like to know if it's possible to transfer the key and transponder guts from the 1-piece key fob to the 2 piece key fob. I have a 2011 VW Jetta. I can find plenty of 2 piece replacements online, but cannot find the 1 piece case replacement. thanks!!!!

Thanks so much for sharing this! It was exactly what i was looking for!
I would like to mention though, that my 2010 VW Beetle has the one with the larger of the 2 VW emblems on it.
(the one that has the screw behind the VW emblem)------So maybe they changed in 2011 but not 2009 or 2010.

Same here, exactly what I were looking for. About what year they change the keys: I think they change the keys at different generations depending on models. I drive a Transporter T5.1 2010 and have the key with the smaller logo. So I conclude that they must have switched the key generations at different years.

Just don't try to remove the little immobilizer - it's very fragile and usually stuck/glued in there. Rather place the plastic piece with it, inside the steering column 'very close' to where the key enters - the receiver antenna is located outside around the barrel so it has to be the closest possible to the antenna

Good video, however the small retaining pin on the side of the key don't go drilling it out or putting extra holes etc it'll look a right mess. Get a small dart or pin and just punch it through into the inside of the case!
    Otherwise good tutorial 👍

I have a 2012 VW Jetta TDI and the key blade broke out of the fob swing arm. I took the battery out and replace with a type 2 swing arm (note: arm will not swing properly but it will hold the key). After putting the remote back together the remote buttons works, but now the car is saying "No KEY" when I try to start. It is not a keyless start. I thought that the IMMO code would hold even if the battery was removed. The remote held the ENVRO codes to open and close the doors. Any help? I only have the one key and am no stuck.

WARNING! Never knock(or push) the pin in on a remote that you wish to keep the board. The pin MIGHT knock off a micro resistor an the immobilizer RFID will render the board unable to work inside the remote casing. To remove the board: Drill a hole under the pin and pry the remote open. This mistake costs me $400. I like the old two part VW remotes.

If you mean buying a key already cut to your car, there are sellers on AliExpress who do that. You just buy a key from them and send them a high-resolution picture of the current one so they can cut the new one exactly.

You will see "NO KEY" on dash and the car will start and stop immediately. To remove the board: Drill a hole under the pin and pry the remote open. This mistake costs me $400. WARNING, WARNING, WARNING: While this is great video, there is a HUGE GOTCHA that you must be warned of. Removing that glass transponder is a nightmare to deal with in many keys. Mine is super glued in heavily and deeply bathing it inside the nail polish remover for over 30 minutes only helped to soften limited area, and the transponder is not budging when I try to wiggle it out. I know any pressure will easily crack this fragile piece. I've been wiggling with this part for 1 hour now with no success, and trying to figure how to break this thing apart ever so gently so that I can remove that transponder.

    • @onenessmind8193
      @onenessmind8193 8 лет назад

Finally got the transponder removed, and now the new key looks and work great. It took about 90 minutes just to repeat the process of soaking in nail polish remover, carefully scraping of loosened glue with a pointed pick, and shaving off the sidewall with a razor blade just to remove the fragile transponder.
