Love this! Your take is, as always, an intelligent one. As a former high school teacher of pro-dominantly Mormon students, I will say that a huge portion of these people have a slanted view of “safe” sex. They are taught abstinence only which leads many down the rabbit hole that is made fun of with that hilarious song called The Loophole by Garfunkel and and Oates. While it’s an unbelievably funny song, it’s unfortunate that young adults actually believe that this is okay and with no talk of responsibility or actual safe sex talk. So many of my students were married nearly as soon as they graduated high school.
As their children I would've been B you kissed my dad throughout your entire courtship if not more than that. You got married pregnant therefore you not qualified to speak on it. As you repeated your first mistake after 30
I thought it was an awful way to make herself yet again the victim and imply that her children were a mistake and that her boyfriend took advantage of her, he never has been able to defend himself against her accusations.
I felt sorry gor Robyn's kids with her ex when she gave that talk. She literally said they were mistakes and said he forced himself on her. All so she could rewrite hustory, be the victim etc My mom let us know that her door was open and we could ask questions etc because she didn't want is learning from our friends. I did the same with my boys. We had the talks at different ages with them aa questions came up and they knew they could come to us with any questions or concerns.
I personally didn't have sex until i was 18. Fortunately, my parents educated me and sent me to the doctor to get on birth control so i wouldn't get pregnant before i finished college. I've always taught my son to use protection.
James, once again you've hit the nail on the head. I honestly think there's a double standard between Kody and the way he addresses that issue with his sons and his daughters. He expects his daughters to remain virgins til marriage and he literally talked about his sons "getting their pencils wet" in that last tell-all. Why did he basically tell Myelti that when she kisses a guy hormones will escape from her mouth and go into that person? It sounds so stupid and Robyn's speech was so reprehensible. Her children were sitting right in the room while she basically described her ex-husband for lac of a better term sexually assaulting her. It's an insult to her children,it's an insult to her ex,and it's an insult to people who have been s.a.'ed. It negated any ounce of responsibility Robyn had in the situation she found herself in! She chose to have sex and she got pregnant. I also found her speech laughable in another way. Robyn stated that her purity should've been given to Kody, right? She's 10 years younger than Kody so what is the implication she's making? Does she mean that she should've given her "purity" to a thrice married father of four or five kids if they had met when she was in her teens and he was a grown adult man or does she mean she wanted to skip her first marriage, the conception of Dayton,Aurora and Breanna, and waited til she was a 30 year old virgin? This conversation was completely screwed up!
If that is an example of the sex ed that Robyn received, I'm not surprised that she was pregnant before she married. Her words were dangerous and not helpful. No talk about the responsibilities of the man or the woman. She made it sound like she regretted the births of her 3 oldest children. Emotional damage and misinformation is passed down from one generation to the next. We watched Robyn and Kody pass it down to all of the children. I received more constructive sex ed in grades 7 and 8 in the 1970's.
I love love love this man and his way of thinking he’s brilliant and I hope many young people somehow can know about him and listen to what he has to say. What a super guy! Thank you for what you do!! “God bless”😊
Love listening to you! You have the perfect voice to calmly express "your take"! And the BEST part is, you have a way of framing information in sensitive, positive, encouraging ways. Thank you!
This hits so close to home. My mother was a teen mother and when she got with my step father converted to his super weird religious view, where we were taught to fear sex and getting pregnant until marriage. There was no education about it in our house and if the topic came up we were punished. My sister and I were both assaulted in some way and didn't tell anyone for years due to this. I am now 31 and still have issue talking about anything sexual even with my husband, he is very helpful and patient which I'm very grateful for. My sister and I are so open with answer any question our children ask about sex and explain consent and respect to them all the time due to this.
The adults seem so willing to throw their kids under the bus for a storyline. Yes, have this conversation. Make sure it’s an ongoing one. Having the conversation. It is never easy for anyone involved. I question why add to any of the awkwardness by having it on camera. It came off as if they were using sex as a scare tactic.
Common sense is now almost extinct in our world it needs to come back. What did you think about the wedding present Robin gave Cody? The painting of her and Cody and her three kids that she hired an especially good artist to paint a family picture of just her Cody and the three kids up to that point?? And she also said that she had been collecting pictures of Cody from the houses so that the artist could get a reasonable replication. I would love your take on that one and I think I'll just kept my lip sealed and not influence anyone's experience or interpretation.
@@sharonallewe7990 Yup, The moment I saw it it felt to me kind of like a stalkerish thing. The way Christine Janelle and Mary reacted was real and priceless shoke & awe (not the good kind). I could see and feel the shock, disbelief, and repulsion when everyone saw it for the first time. The only person who liked it was Robin; shoe horn her way into the family during their early years. Instead of having one painted of the entire family all the children the wives coded She decided to create the illusion that Cody and her had been together from the beginning and that is beyond creepy.
Once again James--you were blunt, to the point and got it done! I can't help myself from thinking this way. What kind of upbringing did Kody REALLY have as a young kid into his teens and then as a young man have? I've been watching this circus since day 1---Kody just doesn't seem to have CORE values when it comes to his people skills. He's always in it for himself...what he can get; what can make his life better. Just can't help but feel that he never had a real solid upbringing w those core values. I could be way off....But it appears that just maybe Kody had no solid foundation and when it came down to raising his own children--esp the boys...he had nothing to fall back on....he was flying by the seat of his ugly tight jeans. Thanks James for doing what you do. I always look forward to your new pieces. May God Bless You and keep you and family safe!
Im SO glad u did this video.. Ive been waiting on someone to do it. This entire scene drove me completely nuts. I just didnt like majority of her wording and tone. I have a daughter so yes I e goven that talk more then once but Robyn just made me cringe. I truly felt like she was trying to scare those kids into NOT having sex. Maybe she just wasnt the right person for that conversation.
I love the way you talk about what you teach your kids. Robyn’s speech was basically Mormon 101. I know most religions encourage people to only have sex after marriage, but Mormons really take it to the next level. You can be excommunicated from the church for premarital sex. Growing up in the church, (I’m not Mormon anymore) I knew a girl who had a baby out of wedlock. She was excommunicated and quite openly used as an example of what can happen when a woman gives her purity away. I dated a Mormon boy as a young adult and only after a couple dates, he told me that he was wondering if I was a test sent to him, a temptation by the devil, because dating me he had feelings of wanting to do “things” that he knew he shouldn’t. Basically he was turned on by me and that must be my fault for “tempting” him with the urges/desires that he was experiencing. I stopped going to church and my very Mormon grandparents lived several hours away so they didn’t know when I left the church. I ended up moving in with a man who I was in a relationship with. However, when we moved in together I paid for an extra phone line to the house, separate from our normal phone number. This separate phone was known as the “Grandma M phone”, and my partner wasn’t allowed to answer if, only me, so that I could keep it a secret from her that I had moved in with my partner and was sharing a home/bed with him outside of marriage. That’s how strong that had been drilled into my head, that even after deciding to leave the church, I still was trying to keep parts of my life secret from my Mormon family members, because I knew how disappointed they would be in me, and how sad they would be for me. Women in the church are expected to be pure, and your worth and value as a woman is tied to your adherence to those rules. And while men are also expected to wait until marriage as well, their worth isn’t derived from their purity. They are leaders, they have goals, they are allowed to develop who they are as an individual. I guess you could break it down as women are expected to be good and pure, and men are expected to eventually choose a woman who has kept herself good and pure to marry. Have you ever watched “90 Day Fiancé, the Other Way”? There is a Mormon boy on one season named “Steven with a V”. It would be a great watch for you to get an idea of the double standards and expectations the Mormon religion amongst young people. The difference in how he behaves and how he expects his fiancé to behave are the perfect example. I really recommend watching that season, there’s a lot of great conversations to be had about those relationships.
It's a shame you have had to hide your truths and live a lie. People came here for religious freedom. Then being dictated what to believe and follow. No better then being under the threat of organized crime.
I loved this. I have two teens and would love some more advice on how to parent with everything. It’s so hard. Can you do some parenting videos or.. can you take questions and answer that would be amazing
Hi James, forgive me if you've previously reacted to this bit in another video but as you were talking today my mind continually went back to Kody's comments in a later season on being "sweet 16" and his, unique to many, interpretation of what that meant. Again if you've previously spoken on that bit I'm sorry I'm not remembering my mom brain is a little fried this morning but on the chance you haven't seen that piece yet it's a doozy😅
10:56 YES. Oooo smh. Let me find out. I have a 19 year old daughter who is lgbtq and twin 14 year old boys. I dread the things coming up... boys are just as sensitive and sweet as girls are.
I think we should teach abstinence before marriage or at least to 18 years old. No parent need use scary scenarios if they give in to temptation, but stressing abstinence until both are mature enough to handle a sexual situation. Now, as far as Robyn and her victumhood mentally and villenizing her children's father. Those kids know how many siblings she produced, so she must have been a slow ass learner. Her speech was self sniching and cringe. Oh, don't forget the crying wirh no tears thing she does. Children aren't stupid. Honest conversations that are age appropriate and on going through the years i agree with. But i truly believe abstinence is key to moral values and health.
The brainwashing that goes on with a lot of these parenting principles creates messed up adults who can't co-parent. Something that can be "lost" from riding a bike or horseback riding should not be what you teach young ladies or young men to "value." Teens should be taught more about things that actually matter instead of myths about morals. I often wonder if girls AND boys were taught more about ovulation if it would lower pregnancy rates. It's not that difficult to find out when your or your gf's period comes and then be extra careful 2 weeks after that, knowing that's when you/she ovulates. The Rhythm Method is as effective as condoms if done correctly. It's something I tell my oldest son about and advice I give to all teenagers but I think it should be taught in health class. There's way too much education about NOT doing it and not enough education on how to do it carefully. NOT that condoms aren't important, they definitely are, but many of the teenagers I've known feel safe having unprotected sex if it's with their bf/gf because they're not as afraid of STD's.
I'm sorry, what should be taught is safer sex. HIV and STI's are rising. We need to be able to discuss this openly. The rhythm method doesn't work that well, why do you think that there are so many large catholic families? Most couples practicing the rhythm method become pregnant in the first year. Again, free condoms and birth control and education regarding STI's are the only way to go
@@ukmary1968 when done correctly the rhythm method is 97% effective. They have pamphlets about it at most OBGYN offices or you can look up information about it online. I know a lot about it because on most birth control medications I don't stop bleeding, I bled for 6 months straight after having my first child due to birth control. My OBGYN introduced me to the rhythm method then, once I understood it and got the hang of it, I was able to avoid pregnancy for 6 years. And I'm one of those really fertile women who has literally gotten pregnant every time I wasn't careful and my youngest 2 children are only 11 months apart and I had back-to-back c-sections. If you do it properly and have a regular cycles it works, that's why doctors still recommend it if you can't, or don't want to, take birth control. They even have apps that remind you when you're about to ovulate. I never once said that practicing safe sex isn't important, I said that everyone should understand the in's and out's of ovulation to possibly help reduce pregnancy rates further. No method is 100% effective but if you're being careful and know WHEN you should be extra careful, it could be a useful tool for prevention. This isn't a good method for people who are dating and don't have a steady partner but if you're in a committed relationship, are STD free and no one is cheating, there's a good chance that people may not use condoms everytime. It's good to know WHEN to not let "accidents" like that happen, again it's just another prevention tool.

She should have had this discussion with her own kids, and let the other wives handle that conversation in their own way. It was not her place to do that, and you can tell most of the children were a little uncomfortable.
To me that was by far the worst episode ever! So uncalled for, BS because she married him and had three children with him! Her children had to feel like they were wanted it was so disgusting
It gets even worse when you realize that Janelle and Christine had husbands before Kody too. Think he asked them to do this humiliating debasement about giving away their purity too?
😲 Christine was married before?
@@beautifulsoul4028 I do not recall her being married before Kody?
@@beautifulsoul4028 After googling a bit, I think I'm wrong about that, it was just Janelle that was married before Kody. Still... Can you imagine that conversation between Kody and Janelle?
I also hate that she admitted she "gave" it, then said he "took" it. Since he'd been interested in her sister, she probably threw it at him
I wish all parents approached "The Talk" with their kids this way, being a parent takes work and it's not for everyone, speaking truth, to me is the best way, you want your kids to come to you with questions not someone else.
Authenticity is always on the menu with James!
Yeah so they can finally have sex!
The Loophole video makes me laugh every time. I was NOT raised mormon but Catholic and my HS boyfriend tried to pull the same excuse.
One of the most wise voices of balance and reason on RUclips, Mr. James!
Another great video. You obviously are a great Father. Thank God that there are men like you.
So enlightening once again James!
This is one of your best and most helpful.
Thanks!
Thank so much! I appreciate it.
Who else wishes James gave them the birds and bees speech? I’m probably older than him but I wish i would have gotten “the speech” from him.
Collecting or taking without permission?

Robyn stole that idea from a family picture Christine had. Robyn just replaced herself and the kids!
That was the creepiest thing I’ve ever seen 😱

I can’t like this post enough,!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉

10:56 YES. Oooo smh. Let me find out.
I have a 19 year old daughter who is lgbtq and twin 14 year old boys. I dread the things coming up... boys are just as sensitive and sweet as girls are.
😊
Why should Robin, take that talk on her, couldnt there mothers do that along the way,let children tel you so you have a discussion 😊
It feels good❤❤❤❤
The brainwashing that goes on with a lot of these parenting principles creates messed up adults who can't co-parent.
