21:11 Don’t kinkshame! 😂 Excellent video as always, really tempted to get one of these to reshell my one I did a decade ago and maybe do a proper job of it this time.
It's a challenge, but it works well. It's not a case of frustration because the parts don't fit as they should. This is the big difference between this one and the ones that went before it.
These shells are bad. They are painted. It feels way worse than touching plastic directly. And the paint surface is a fingerprint magnet. I didn't try to scratch the case, but any damage too it will be dramatic, it will look horrible with no way to hide it. Also, the hinges feel strange because paint rub against paint. It feels dusty. It is not the fault of extremerate. The unpainted shells are perfect. But i would have prefered a red plastic shell with details painted. Not the whole shell painted.
That's a fair comment and a painted red shell would be good. I think the advantage (aside from the obvious cost benefits for them) of painting onto white is that all the colours really pop. I quite like the feel of this compared to the bare plastic shell.
Nice vid but this is NOT as easy as you make it sound. I made the attempt a week ago and ended up ruining it - digitizer cable either broken or came unattached. Top screen now broken - possible the ribon cable not all the way in. I left out the volume button or it fell out when I attempted to reassemble. All in all it totally sucked and now I'm left trying to find someone to sent it to so it can be fixed. I do have the rest of the Extreme Rate kit and even another DS Lite that all works but has broken hinge. I just give up but would love to find someone to fix it for me. I am too old to see the tiny pieces well and just not dextrous enough to do the work.
Firstly, I'm flattered that you think I made it look easy. I still find these to be a challenge. First time I attempted a DS lite re-shell I felt like I'd been beaten. That's why I included so many warnings along the way in this video, it's all based on mistakes I've made previously. Replacing the digitiser isn't too difficult. And if the top screen doesn't work definitely check how the ribbon is seated.
That sucks but it seems like you rushed putting it back together. The first time I took a ds lite apart to fit a replacement screen took me most of the day. Parts are still cheap on ebay and you can find a "non working" ds for parts for peanuts. I did. Three times.

Cheers Matt!
Wonder why there’s not great support for the DS lite as it’s such a popular console… maybe because it’s usually pretty hard to work on. Great video as always! Does that company have any other kinds of shells like solid color?
Yes there's a whole range of them. I'm tempted to get more. And I agree with you, I think the level of challenge limits the popularity
21:11 Don’t kinkshame! 😂 Excellent video as always, really tempted to get one of these to reshell my one I did a decade ago and maybe do a proper job of it this time.
Hahaaa I had to check what you were referring to there 🤣 and thank you. These are great quality kits.
What about DSi? Any good shell for this console?
Not at the moment, from what I can see. I have one I bought a while ago but it's a generic brand
Looks quite like a mission impossible for me 😂
It's a challenge, but it works well.
I quite like the feel of this compared to the bare plastic shell.
looks like a UK only item?
i was hoping to get one shipped to california :(
My link is for Amazon UK but I am sure they will be available in the USA, try starting at extremerate website maybe
@@54356776 yes, it's worth noting that despite having done this before, I had nearly three hours' worth of footage to work through when I sat down to edit this video!
@@JoeBleeps
I was replying to the op comment buddy. You did a stellar job.
@@54356776 thank you! Yes I was agreeing with you there just backing up what you'd said 🙌
Is there one that ships to the us?
I would have assumed these would be available in the USA. Try searching for extremerate ds lite shell and watch for the flat top surface
that playstation shirt is sick! where'd you cop??
Ah thank you! It was just a Primark pickup 😅
Ah thank you! It was just a Primark pickup 😅
where you from? warrington?
Good spot. I'm not far from there!
@@JoeBleeps I used to work there at the halliwell jones stadium
@@I_am_Mr_Negative small world!
WOW, the shells look really good!
The price also isn't that bad. Gonna buy some real soon :D
Edit: Hm idk what to think about the shells just being painted....
@@xcruell I've had it a while and it's still fine. A lot of OEM consoles and handhelds are just printed or painted anyway, like your limited edition Switch consoles etc
Does anyone do good original DS shells? All of the ones I've seen have been terrible quality.
Sadly no. Even the low quality ones are scarce. If you spray paint the insides they lose that translucency but still not ideal.
yo! where did you get that sick playstation shirt?
Thank you! Got it from Primark a while by
Very nice 😊
Thank you!
Too bad they dont ship to the us id totally buy one
I'm really surprised these don't ship to the USA. Have you tried the AliExpress store?
@@JoeBleeps didn't know there was one lol I'll check it out
@@jldarkspider good luck!
Am I the only who thinks this shell should have been for the DSi or DSi XL instead of the DS Lite? 😂
@@adrianmartinez8125 there's a lot more DS Lite consoles out there and what's more, they are more fragile so more likely to need a replacement shell. I do think a version of this for the DSi would be awesome though
Didn't notice before, but hey, another leftie.
Yup haha
ds is a handheld not a console.
It's a handheld console. So they get called handheld for short.
