This is just such a good channel, so often positive and about books that a lot of other channels might not talk about. Love it. Deserves way more views! (also I picked up Monkey King, the Julia Lovell one, on your recommendation, and it was great)
The best translated (and english) fiction recommendations I've found on youtube so far, thanks so much for the time and research you put into these - always find myself looking forward to the next upload. Kinda niche but wondering if you have any Filipino fiction recommendations?
I actually don't think I've read any literature from the Philippines! Wow, what a gap in my knowledge. I can recommend some good books from Indonesia or Thailand but not the Philippines. I'll have to fix that and check some out!
These videos are opening my world because, honestly, I've mostly read books by American authors, even though I am not an American but a lot of those get translated in my language so it's easy to get them (in the stores, in the library.....)
I'm so happy that Mariana Enríquez is on your list! I haven't read "The Dangers of Smoking in Bed" yet, but have recently read her newest novel ("Nuestra Parte de Noche", which I don't think is translated) and I adored it. I'd love to hear your opinions on it!
Really quality channel, I love your enthusiasim and positive energy. For me the following are my highlights of the books I read this year so far (in no particular order): - Burial Rites (Hannah Kent) - Pluto Manga Series (Naoki Urasawa) - Pedro and the Captain (Mario Benedetti) - Tower (Bae Myung-Hoon) - The Farseer Trilogy (Robin Hobb) - Secret Lives and Other Stories (Ngugi wa Thiong'o) - The Astronomy Book (DK) - Klara and the Sun (Kazuo Ishiguro) - Passing (Nella Larsen) - My Name is Red (Orhan Pamuk) - The Book of Lies - Twins Trilogy (The Notebook, The Proof, The Third Lie) (Agota Kristof) - Terminal Boredom: Stories (Izumi Suzuki) - Heaven (Mieko Kawakami) - Homegoing (Yaa Gyasi) - The Picture of Dorian Gray (Oscar Wilde)
@@WillowTalksBooks Oh yes this was my first Robin Hobb experience and definitely won't be the last, I got all the Realm of Elderlings books ordered 😄 And I owe many of those books to you! Heaven, Terminal Boredom, Tower, Klara and the Sun, really thanks for putting so much amazing stuff on the radar. As for Ishiguro I am on the Remains of the Day camp, one of my top 10 novels of all time. So far I read 3 books by him (his 2 big ones and now Klara) and liked all of them, I will be reading An artist of the floating world next 😍
hi, i just discovered your channel, and thanks a lot for these recommendations, i'm a med student from mexico and my hobby for reading it's not the same as when i was younger, so sometimes when i feel i have time to read something else not related to medicine i search for books. i'm looking forward to read heaven, i love the short japanese novels, reminds me of kyoichi katayama, crying out love, in the center of the world. i tried to find heaven in spanish, 'cause i know that the translation from japanese is better in spanish but it's not out yet. really thanks a lot for the videos i will see all of them!
Appreciate how wide you have cast the net to include books and will definitely check these out. The only book I have read from this list is Klara and the Sun, after watching your review!
I’m so glad that I discovered your channel. I really love the diverse books you are featuring which really helps to expand my reading list. Love all the way from PH 🇵🇭🤍
I enjoyed Braised Pork as well. Liked it but didn't love it. However, it was actually written in English. An Yu is Chinese but lives in the US and writes in English, fun fact!
My best books so far this year Luster The Glorious Heresies ( on audio for the fantastic Cork accent ☘️) My Policeman 👮♂️ The Prettiest Star ⭐️ The Vanishing Half Swimming in the Dark Just Mercy Piranesi The Yield ☘️👋🍀📖💐📚
Ooh I'll definitely check out The Heresies! I wanted to include Piranesi and The Vanishing Half but both came out last year. Still, they have been definite reading highlights of my year!

I really appreciate that! And I'm so happy you enjoyed Monkey King. What a bonkers and campy tale. Every page was a joy.

This is Brood erasure. 🤣 Just kidding! Fantastic list!! 🙌🏼
I felt so bad for not including Brood! But Darkness wouldn't respect me if I lied for the sake of pandering.

i wish i had liked klara as much as you, i had such high expectations and i found it very underwhelming :-/
To each their own!
