Hi, I am a 57yr. young woman. I've waited for my man to fix our door for a year......
I just watched your video and I am going to do it myself!! Thankyou for making such easy to follow instructions.
I've fixed my truck, his car, and I thank folks like you who are gracious and share knowledge.
Ill let you know how it goes.....here's to women carpenters! Especially us 'mature' gals...who still don't wait for someone to do what needs to be done.
Thank you again, Georgia R.
Thank you so much for sharing this Georgia. You rock and I’m giving you a heart right now my friend.
Hey Georgia! How did things work out for you? I need to fix mine but im scared of breaking something more than fixing it!

@@homemend I just saw ww
Hiya Dustin!! It looks like you have a fan base of female DIYers. I just subscribed. It is very rare a week goes by where I don't complete some traditional man job. Facts are, it is too expensive to pay for this work, so as my dad used to say, "has to can do." Last week I set a toilet and this week put in the first of three ceiling fans with a weird switch back wiring set up that gave me the heebe-jeebies. Today I'm installing the hinge side of a door jam that was kicked in. I've been collecting measurements and pieces to finish for a few months now. Thanks to you and other RUclips helpers, this kind of thing can be done by this 58 year old home mender. You are very appreciated and it was good to see that the nail gun will hold pressure without being connected to the compressor when I go over to the house for these pieces; yay. I'm making a parts list from your video. Today is the day for this door repair... wish me luck!
You are awesome Nora. Thank you so much yes I love my Lady home Menders, they are awesome and deserve our respect. I love to hear the comments that are beaming with confidence and the personal victory that they get is irreplaceable, well obviously you know… Thank you so much for sharing this
Thanks for the video. My door has been broken for over a year, but it still worked, so i didn't bother. I got it fixed in an afternoon after wathcing your video and now it is a good as new.

I'm a single gal and these videos have saved me so much money! I have dry-walled, tiled my kitchen backsplash, removed a door frame to add a barn door, replaced baseboard, and now want to replace the outside old casing on another door so this video helped a lot. Thank you!
You are awesome faith. This is the kind of comment that I am looking for and it blesses the channel so much. Building confidence in people is the whole point and you are beaming girl. Thank you so much for sharing

I followed your video, bought a primered jam leg from big box hardware and installed it. Thank you again!!!

47 single female here! seemingly so hard to get a handyman out to my house to fix mine. a zumba friend told me i can do it myself. watching this makes me think i can too. i just don' t have that tool you used to make the hole. so i might invest in one (new homeowner) or borrow one from someone. i'll rewatch to see the name of the tool! thank you...i'll come back here to comment if i succeed.
I’m expecting to see your comment soon. Anxiously waiting.
You earned a sub man. This was to the point and done. No long drawn out b.s no option based stuff. Just simple to the point. Job done

@@homemend as an update, I did my buddies front door today. This exact same fix step by step. And it worked perfectly. Two packs shims, leg board, stop mold, screws, nails and spade bit. And weather stripes, 100 bucks. And a six pack. 4 hrs with shopping and a good time. Thank you. His estimate was a whole fromt door replacement at 4500 bucks. We were gentle during demo and checked levels and door shutting, every step. And this video walked us thru it. Thank you.
Awesome comment my friend thanks for the update. You made the video and success story. Thank you so much

My wife and I bought a house that used to be a rental property and we're slowly fixing everything that the landlord let go or fixed in really cheap and crappy ways. We don't have a ton of money on hand to pay for other people to come in and do home repairs, and your channel has been really helpful, this video especially. This is one of those projects that's been really daunting for me since it seems so easy to mess up, and having you walk through it so clearly has eased a ton of my anxiety about it. Thank you!

Thank you for the video! I'll definitely reference this next time I have to replace a door jamb (which may not be too long, but it's on the hinge side of the door)
Hey jack! Definitely . But when it’s the hinge side , the whole prehung door is the way to go!
Great simple vid. It would take my father in law six and a half hours todo this.
Thank you rad. I appreciate the comment

Thanks for this, and also for confirming a 1x5 board will work!

I’m so greatful for this video. I locked my guest room with my car keys inside and my two dogs 😬. I tried everything to open the door and well brute force was the only way. Fortunately your video made this a simple fix.

You rock, smashing!
Nice fix, better than replacing the whole frame and door!
Hey Pete yes sir this one went well. I like that Home Depot has now been selling one by fives. We used to have to rip down a one by six to get an interior jamb.
@@homemend I will have to check that out!
Thank You
Thank UG
Real good stuff for a newbie that’s a truck driver by trade😂😂😂👍👍👍
That is awesome Michael thank you so much for sharing. Check out the homeowners ecourse. Bring you right up to speed my friend !
Cool, my door was push in by the fire department today but I was able to fix it with screws fasting the frame all back together, just need touch up paint & caulking would work. This video will come handy if I need it in the future. Thx
Awesome Peter! Thank you so much for sharing
Hi Dustin, The firemen were called to a smoke alarm in an apartment and broke the lock side of the door like in your video(s). The tenants hired some "journeyman" from their work. They repaired it by cutting off 4 feet by 3 inches of the jamb and replaced it with a piece of 5/8" plywood? The job doesn't look very professional. I can't secure properly a jimmy deadbolt sideways with screws in through the plies! Your videos show how to do it right, permanently. Thanks for taking the time and effort to make excellent educational videos.
Thank you RD. Awesome, my friend. Glad to help
Damn! Thanks!
You got this Daniel
Thanks
Thank you bk!
Forgot to mention, hello from New Zealand 🇳🇿 😀
Hello Maria from New Zealand. We love you guys up here thank you so much for commenting!
your awesome. all the other videos on the subject suck compared to yours. lol. thanks a bunch
Thank you so much Russell. I appreciate you my friend and enjoy that repair!
Great video, although it would have been interesting to see how to replace weather stripping as well since many household use them now as well and learning to replace em would greatly help.
Hey hey, that’s a different video. This is an interior door jamb. There are two Weatherstripping videos on this channel depending on your style. One will help!
I learned 2 things today. Door handle baby proofing should go on the outside of the door not the inside 😂 then with this video I learned how to replace the piece of door jam I broke in order to get my 1.5 yesr old out of my room because my silly goose self put the door handle baby proofing contraption on the inside of the door and he locked himself in and my windows were locked so I had no choice but to bust in the door 😂 thanks for the very informative video 🙂 😀 😅
That is awesome Kelsey. Thank you so much for sharing.
Wow, great video! Would it be the same on the opposite side? Thanks!
Thank you joyful! The hinge side is a little tougher. After re-creating the jamb you would need to trace the hinges and router them out. If it’s not damaged you may consider a split jam door. I hope this helps
Police raided my house, now I’m watching this video….door was unlocked whole time….loll
It’s like that sometimes. Lol thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the vids. I started a home repair company and I always watch short videos for pointers. I've got 15 years of experience and you know your sh1t. Thanks for the casing trick for cutting. Just saw you had a mailbox video and I was gonna get a sono-tube and everything. Your right though, take some concrete, throw it in the hole and be done with it.
Awesome comment my friend thank you so much. It’s certainly nice when the tradesmen learn something new. Thank you so much for sharing
I noticed that you're using a frame nailer for the finishing work (casing, etc.) as well. What size nails are you using for that?
Hey Doc. This is an paslode impulse nailer. It’s not a framing nailer it’s a finish nailer. I usually like the 2 1/2’s. Thanks for watching!
@@homemend Ah, ok. Thanks for the clarification!
Thank you 😂
I appreciate you my friend. Thanks for commenting
That was perfect. Now if I can just find a place to get all those tools
You got this just in. Thanks so much for the comment
I really liked this video. I wish you had camera where you were making the cuts so one could see where to.cut. I have same thing and need to replace but never done it
You got this pack. Don’t overthink it just roll with it!
Thanks dude. I can now use my toilet and close the door at the same time!
You rock David. Thanks for sharing
Awesome job Dustin ! You said your nail gun was 400 but I bet it will pay for itself. Better to buy good tools than junk and junk in the long run is much more costly than a good tool. Awesome video!
Thank you Steven, paslode has always been my favorite and yes for everything it’s 400 in the store. I recently found this one on marketplace. A guy was selling it for $150, it looked brand new. A guy bought it for a trim job at his house did the job and then it’s been sitting in his garage for 17 years LOL it needed a little maintenance but after I dropped it off at the shop he did what he needed to do in oiled it up and it is now good as new.Oh and it definitely pays for itself quickly. Thanks for commenting.
@@homemend well how about that
Damn...had no idea there were so many different pieces. Off to work I go!
You got this Jean. Thanks for sharing
Is there a jamb-side template for routing hinges and the striker thingy? I know they have them to use on the door slabs so. I assume there is one for jambs…right?
Hey Anthony doors vary on hinge spacing and hinge size. Usually when it’s into the hinge side, I will replace the whole door jam just because it produces a better product and trying to replace the inside is labor-intensive. I hope this helps
My doors are over 60 years old... going to need to replace door jams as I replace my doors.
You’ve got this Jimmy John
That's decorative trim with a bead, you went back with plain?
Hey Brian, not really understanding the question… That was miniature crown molding called bedmould. A little fancier than trying to trim and ceiling out in casing…
I think your videos are amazing but I would also like to know that you would let you know the value of your projects.I also do jobs like this one here in Maryland where I live and sometimes I have questions about how much to charge for the work. tnk u
Hey sanzio. Thank you!! I have a pricing guide available for common jobs. Shoot me an email. Thehomemender@gmail. Jobs typically work out about 100 per hour. Which means you can do better if you’re fast!
As a new handyman what would be a the price you would charge for this work in Denver area?
Thank you for any advice.
Hey! I tell people to charge what they are happy making. It’s always more money when you are fast I would say you could get 200 just for labor easy. I hope this helps
