- When I was searching for a new lunch cooler, I came across the pelican eight quart cooler. The only video that was out at the time was Pelican's own short promo video. So, I wanted to make a video mostly to show the size of this cooler.
Not all hero’s wear capes. Thank your for the video my guy
Igloo Playmates work for the day at work, as long as you keep the cooler in shade
Finally someone who compared them both. Looks Like the 14 is the way to go for me. Can use it for lunch and for the beach or events.
You have a great cooler. I have always liked and wanted a pelican over most other brands like yeti. My Engel the same size broke. I'm not sure why they make metal latches and plastic hinges and one broke. That's easy enough to replace with metal ones but in the meantime my mom ordered the dark grey and lime green inside like yours. It feels pretty solid with the screws in the upper and lower, the handle and the hinge pins. I'm impressed and haven't even used it yet. The dry box above the freeze pack will get a lot of use from me.
I happen to love the dry storage area on my 14qt...conceals a Glock 43 just perfectly setting on top of a microfiber towel! I also cut a piece of Reflectix that fits in the dry storage and another piece that fits in the bottom of the removable tray....helps insulate the cooler even more! Just ordered my 8qt...I'm excited!
This a great review. You talked about all the important parts and did it in a timely fashion.
10/10!
Off to amazon to buy the 8 quart.
Simply informative review! Will be purchasing one soon
Excellent video, thank you so much! Actually showing what fits is SO useful. 👍👍
Looks like a Pelican 2lb ice pack will fit flat on the bottom. That should be perfect to keep stuff cold enough for a lunch for work. I have the 14qt too and just to big for a lunch cooler.
Very helpful, thanks. I just got their 14qt and I wish the lid was plain solid, with no annoying flimsy 'dry storage' compartment built in. They transformed what would inherently be a bulletproof seating surface, into something fiddly and guaranteed to break if ever unwisely used as a seat.
That is what started me on the journey to find a new lunch cooler. I destroyed my last ones from sitting on them. Now I just bring a chair.
Finally a 8qt review! Thanks
Thank you for doing this, brother.
This was very helpful thank you. I'm also debating between both for my lunch box
What a great review and I didn’t even have the volume turned up.
Thanks. I've been looking for a video. I was wanting to get one for my lunches
Figuring out the true usable size of a cooler is the hardest part. This one could be slightly bigger, in my opinion, but it does work.
I have the 14 qt and love it. I don’t think it’s too big
Thank you 🥰
Hello.. Where did you get the blue cooler ice thing that you put between the soda cans??
Excellent
maybe in the 8 quart take put the cooling pack cube and maube a sandwich wouldn't get smashed? I mean since it don't really do anything. Just a thought. thanks for the video I may nistenduk getting the 14 quart anyways to keep in my trunk for day trip or day travel😊
I bought the 14 qt and ended up giving it away. Just didn’t hold ice any better than an Igloo or Coleman does. The 14 needed to be a little taller as well if you wanted to use the inside tray with ice. To bad about the ice retention because I really wanted this to work
I have the 8qt and it seems to be ok so far. Only had a week or so. The ice brick it comes with is trash. But it’s just that tiny bit too small. Something in the 11ish range would be perfect. So glad I didn’t get the 14. It’s huge.
I think the ice brick is good to keep whatever in the tray cold (sandwiches). I leave it in the back of my truck and live in S FL and it seems to work.. IMHO
Pelican 2 pound ice pack fits flat on the bottom keeps things cold
Now I’m wishing they made an 11 qt version. Bit concerned you don’t think the ice retention is that great.
I agree, an 11 would be about perfect for lunches.
I just bought one…. It’s not rotomolded… it’s built better than the cheap igloo ones but not as durable as a rotomolded one but then again it’s more of a lunchbox so it’s lighter, I’ll keep it … but I’ll give it a 4 stars out of 5!
Nice view, but I think it’s overpriced. If it was cheaper, I would snatch it up
Can you do the same review for the 14 qt please
I'll try to put one out for you, thank you.
@@brewerscarpentry thanks
Great review, I’d love to see a review for the 14qt as well
I just bought the 8qt on bucees got home put ice on it and che the next morning and it was melted close the lit and turned and all the water come out looks like the seal sucks on it 😒
I haven't been real impressed by the ice retention either, but it does last the day, so it has been working for my lunch
Need to precool the cooler, chill the drinks, freeze ice packs and load up. Precool in freezer, cold running water or sacrificial ice.
Works great
How long does it stay cold for?
In my opinion, it is about average. If I leave it in my work van during the day, about 3/4 of the ice will be melted by the time I head home. So I would say it isn't much better than a normal cheaper cooler, like the yellow dewalt one in the video. But, that being said, as long as there is still ice by the end of the day, that is all I need.
Pelicans are okay coolers, but they’re very poorly designed. They like to flip over very easily.
Not impressed at all! Too bulky and impractical for what sits inside.
