    My mom back in the late '50's and early '60's had a very loving slogan - "if you're hungry enough, you'll eat floor wax", Then she proceeded to serve supper.

    I have started stocking up on some “instant meals” for hurricane supplies since last year, great and easy food source, glad to see someone else with this idea, I’ll look into these. Most other hurricane supplies get eaten before the storm hits, my children attack food like a pack of wolves, lol.
    Good video!

    I will add these to my preps. Thanks for the tip! As good as the expensive freeze dried options. Can make your own specialized meal buckets with dinners only. Bonus? Already assembled and dont need water. Allows for individual selection of meal choice. Everyone not forced to eat the same meal.

    It's sad when storms are coming and most people are just getting their food and water. I've come to the realization that most people don't even have enough food to last ONE DAY! They never eat at home and so don't have any food. While I'm not exactly ready for a long term event, I can survive for at least two weeks!!
    SINGLE SERVING SIZE!!!!! Love that! I'll have to give them a try.

    Cooking in a hot bath, we can assume the meals are not freeze dried. In outdoors without lots of water, I ever tried burying such MREs under campfire with a layer of soil separating.
    Sometimes, the results can be good.

      Lol hospital food is not bad what so ever. Only people I seen complain are brats who grew up spoiled in life. Every hospital Ive been to or my mom has been to have some really good meals. Always some really nice menus. I was eating Filet mignon last time and what ever I wanted. All I know about hospital food is that’s it’s good stuff. We’re you in 3rd world country hospital? Food must have sucked if so. But if your in the USA , look up struggle meals then complain about your hospital food.

    high sodium will be important in an emergency anyway as long as water is abundant enough as well cause salt will follow water but sodium needs replaced almost as necessarily as water. low levels can cause all sorts of health problems.

    Ready Meals are great, even for normal use.
    Nuke them for 90 seconds, if the power is out, do what you just did with boiling water.
    But you still need to tear the bag top a little, the hot air moving out of the bag helps distribute the heat more evenly.
    The reason it tastes so good is that it is NOT instant food, it is real food.
    Tasters Choice has always been a reliable and good coffee.

  • @jerold8908
    @jerold8908 7 лет назад +2

    Two questions, maybe I missed it, but what is the shelf life? I had also heard that you should not reuse the water that you heated the pouches in. The outsides of the pouches have inks and chemicals that should not be consumed. It would be great if that was not true.

    • @Iridium242
      @Iridium242  7 лет назад +1

      Shelf life is at least 2 years, the one I ate was 2 years old.. as for the water, I had no idea, nothing was leaking off when I used the water and it was clear, but guess I wont do it again if thats the case. Thanks! BTW they are labeled with a best by date of one year.

    I too keep less expensive emergency preparedness foods on my shelves. My dog and I survived hurricane Irma, yay! My plans are elaborate compared to the average person, but it has to be that way because of where I live and I have so much emergency preparedness gear. I'll look into those Campbell meals, but the fat content, where is that at?

    • @Iridium242
      @Iridium242  7 лет назад +1

    I bought a selection, all three brands, and have been trying them. They are bland, bland, bland! Not as bland as a plain spud or Jimmy Dean Breakfast Bowl, but close. So carry something to add some zest. Meals can improve morale, or just stuff your stomach with fuel. I can recommend Tony Chachere's Creole Seasoning.

I actually don't have an operating kitchen due to a remodeling project, so I'm not really keeping any groceries but I got a bunch of these in case my power and power to local restaurants go out with Irma. They looked better than canned meals and in packaging I could use with a camp stove. I just thought it was funny and coincidental you featured them. These are perfect for short term storage I'm surprise they weren't flying off the shelves too.

    They look super convenient but there are vegan options. If I had no choice and I was close to starving I would eat that if someone gave it to me. There are so many vegan options if you have the chance to prepare there's really no excuse... unless one doesn't really care if its vegan or not ... then that's another story. :)
    These packets are a great idea though.

      No idea on the vegan ones, the one I ate had no meat in it but who knows if it was cooked in a beef broth.. I will have to check, thanks!

      I got these at Walmart but have seen them at Kroger/Smiths and Albertsons. Look in the same isle where canned meats are sold.
