It damages hair, yes but it doesn't alter your natural pigment since that's deep down in the follicle. I'd argue box dyes could maybe cause issues, but if you go to a stylist, no worries.
My husbands cousin started going grey at 18 (fully grey by 25)... his twin brother didn't start greying until 40.
My sister started greying at 25 (pretty much completely grey now at 50)... I'm just starting to get a few at 45.
Partly Genetics, partly just random.
