Really helpful - thank you! Just removed and replaced my lock (as it had no key) in tiny gap between frame and fender (from outside the left side of complete bike), but now have to remove it again, as the new lock rotates - yours is the only account that clearly shows the detent pip between the lock and the frame. Hopefully I've only got to do it all again just one more time to get it right...as it's not easy to do!

This is going to sound like the dumbest thing, but I just took mine out from my frame as I do a restoration, and I could never get it to work. But no one ever showed me that the way that it works is that you're physically supposed to push the entire lock into the protrusion! I always assumed there was supposed to be something that turning the key in the lock cammed internally at the end I couldn't see and put the projection into the fork stem. I had no idea the entire lock was physically supposed to slide in that slot. This is probably one of those incredibly obvious things that everyone but me always knew and I just learned it now 😂 finally I understand how this works and it must have been working on mine but I never pushed in 🤣

I want to remove my steerlock; lost my key. Is de removing method the same as shown? Or need I to drill out the lock? Please you advice.

It would be helpful to know how lock reaches into steering column and what is actually catching. I have a modified steering assembly and want to replace the lock. But am all assembled and that answer helps me assess the job as being lock only, or full disassembly and machining into the stem if needed for lock to depress and catch something. Thanks. JR

John, click the link in the description underneath the video. That takes you to the document on my web page that has all the details about the fork lock. To remove the lock, you remove the cover by driving it out of the frame. Then you insert the key and twist it like you are going to lock the fork. You can then remove the lock tumbler from the frame.

Hi Brook: great advice - but I’d like add my voice to the others who have asked how on would remove the lock IF the key is lost.

Hi Peter, I've never had this problem. You may find this link shows options to do that.

You could alternatively have a key made. A good locksmith shop can make a key for you just from the tumbler. Assuming that the seat and fork lock keys are the same (they should be if nobody ever messed with the tumbler assemblies or replaced them), you can easily remove the seat lock, find a Neiman key blank online (eBay usually has them or Capital Cycle) and bring it to them. Make sure they can cut a steel key first - not all of them can.

I would like to remove the dust cover for the steering lock. I’m removing it all for powder coating. Do I drill out the dust cover pin to remove the rest or dose it come off another way?? Thanks love your Channel!

The pin holding the cover is a special kind of friction rivet, it's shaped like a rivet but with some raised edges. It's only held in with friction into the hole, just get a screwdriver behind the cover and carefully pry to just pull it straight out. Don't drill it out it should pull straight out
