Hello I enjoy your videos very educational when it comes to home plumbing repairs...... question I have a shark bite flex pipe and my pipe froze this winter it’s all Thawed out now but I noticed that the ice inside my shark bite flex push back on the Caleb can I snap the Caleb back in the shark bite before I attempt to reuse it....Thank you....mel.
i dont mean to be so off topic but does anyone know a tool to get back into an Instagram account? I was stupid lost my password. I would love any help you can offer me!
I like Sharkbites and think they are "probably" reliable long term (50+ years) when properly installed, but I don't think we can say with absolute certainty until we have real world, 50+ year data.
In the UK virtually all new-builds are done with plastic pipe and most of it is behind walls or in the floor void. Think they offer 50-year guarantee over here.
My heating system is now over 10 years old and was redone in grey PB pipe with JG speed fit fittings. Zero issues after many winters and thousands of heat cycles. Glad we don't have sharkbites here, they look dreadful
The problem with the o-rings is they can deteriorate when it comes in contact with chlorine from city water. If you live in the country side and use well water, those o-rings should last many, many years.
How do the o-rings get UV light inside the fitting? What kind of crappy O-rings is Don used to using if he thinks they will deteriorate so easily? Why don't you discuss the approved uses, UPC code approval, etc?
@@MrBoxxxed I wonder if he understands how many nitrile O rings are connecting his fuel lines in his car as it goes from cold to extremely hot carrying gasoline.
Craw'd under the house and tried two new shark bite connectors and they both failed, these were new fittings and both failed on the pex end not copper end. Yes know how to installed'
You may not have used the insert which, as the video says, is required for plastic pipe. Without the insert the pipe can deform and then leak. Copper does not require an insert
I would say soldering but you cannot solder plastic. The push-fit fittings are nearly idiot proof. Sadly it means that idiots now think they can plumb like professionals.
The only time I’ll use them is in an emergency situation. A lot of homes in Boise Idaho are plumbed with polybutylene and they make a poly to pex or Polly to copper adaptor. I don’t warranty this repair because shark bites suck. I’ll always give the customer the option to replumb the home since polybutylene pipe has such a huge fail rate, especially when the water districts use a lot of chlorine. The other time I use them is if it’s a CPVC repair. I hate cpvc and trust a sharkbite fitting over a CPVC glued fitting! Again, I’m clear to the home owner that I won’t warranty said repair, and advise they need to get that plumbing out of their home
"Because shark bites suck". Care to offer the world some definitive evidence? Most plumbers would disagree with you. What secrets have you discovered that the rest of us don't know?
I would like to know what guarantee these Shack bite valve can have ,that can withstand the pressure of the water ,I can calmly trust that inside a wall or behind the kitchen cabinet put it with complete confidence .
'I wouldn't use them behind walls where I can't see them." Nearly every leak behind walls is due to failed solder connections or pinhole leaks in the copper pipe from corrosion or corroded galvanized pipe and fittings. PEX is not immune from leaks in walls due to punctures, cracks, friction. How is that any different from using a shark bite behind walls. For water lines to icemakers, water dispensers, where John Guest unions have been used, it is always the plastic tubing that fails, not the connector. Jesus, have either one of these guys ever repaired a sprinkler or water line in the yard? They have had compression/slip-fit couplings to repair/connect PVC underground water pipes for decades.

Excellent run down on how and when to use these fittings ... thanks guys
Very nice video! Well produced and lots of good info without fluff. Great job!
how can the o rings be exposed to youwee light when it's inside?

Let me save you 15 minutes of your life. Yes they are reliable but don't bury them or hide them in walls, so have access. You're welcome.
I wouldn't want to use it if it's prone to leaks in the first place lol
@@ambikesandboards I agree

Thanks. Which one is appropriate for a fridge compressor's pipe?
A refrigerator sealed system tubing is normally copper and steel. You should only make a repair with copper couplings and silver solder.

@@adaster98 mine has lasted for years, no issues and still looks brand new.
I like the screw down compression fittings.
Would Vito orings last longer on shark bite fittings?
Explain to me why a single 1/4" valve costs $10, please?
These may be "good," but for the cost I could hard pipe everything instead.
Will either work with low density polyethylene tubing?

I dont think he understands how UV light works.

I am going to call Bullshit. Ther is no Pex End, or Copper end, they are exactly the same. You did not install correctly.

Thank you for making this video- very helpful overview.

What's better a soildered fitting or a oring.

Whats better an o ring, a soldered fitting or just a split copper pipe in between a sharkbite and soldered joint?

Hey Chris - what type of plumbing do you recommend/ stand-behind/ warranty for your customers?
"Because shark bites suck". Care to offer the world some definitive evidence? Most plumbers would disagree with you. What secrets have you discovered that the rest of us don't know?
One failure in 15 years and it was pilot error. So explain a little better why wouldn't you use it in a wall?
Good video, but all things considered; I think I'll stick with sweating copper for now.
Sharkbite has been around for 25 years. Have a 25 year warranty.
Shark Bite Fittings have a 20yr Warranty in sny Weather if buried cover the fitting with wax paper
Robert McCabe actually they have a special tape to make the fittings safe when buried.
I would like to know what guarantee these Shack bite valve can have ,that can withstand the pressure of the water ,I can calmly trust that inside a wall or behind the kitchen cabinet put it with complete confidence .
The john guest fittings have a 25 year guarantee acording to this video ruclips.net/video/taw6PZJSh_c/видео.html
Use them !!! love them ,,,,, do not bury them !!!!!!! do not worry about them ,,,,,,
This didn't have to be sixteen minutes long, as most of us dozed off after about 45 seconds.

Really great point. As if the baseline is perfect and only Sharkbite may fail.
Your chloramine chlorine tap water will deteriorate that rubber o ring in 7 to 10 years. Thus expect leaks and replace.
