I may be slightly older than some other viewers but was very active in the country crafts of the late 80’s - to early 90’s. Scroll cut, stenciled and hand painted detailed wood pieces (think I was the first to bring hand painted terra-cotta pots to a show) which sold very well until companies that manufactured in China noticed. Suddenly, machine spray painted items showed up in Walmart for less than my wood alone cost me. It virtually killed that era of crafting. So glad to see a resurgence of beautiful, hand painting, be it cards or decorative pieces. Thank you and the you tubers for heralding the warning!
These cards are just wonderful. And I hope you continue to help people learn this art, You are extremely good at what you do. So please keep teaching us. I need all the help I can get.
OMG, how dare they! I always buy from reputable companies and thanks for letting us know about this. I didn't know. Let's stop buying from them as we surely want this industry to keep us going and inspired. My local shop had to close up shop because of online products, she couldn't compete. Now we have to worry about these fake companies! I miss my scrapbook shop so much. She gave classes and opened her doors to everyone on Tuesdays to come and sit down at her tables to create what ever you wanted or to finish your cards or scrapbook projects, even if you didn't buy anything. she would only charge $12.00 a month for that. I got so inspired by that little shop. Now I'm left with having to buy on line or going to Michael's and such. Love your creativity Sandy, please keep on inspiring us! Thank you.
What a precious snowman - and ice skating, no less! I love anything ice skating! Thank you for sharing how you create motion marks. This looks fabulous! I keep working on making motion marks but this helps a great deal! I love your color pencil class, too!
Love the advice on creating motion. I usually shy away from images with too much motion because I wasn't sure how to depict it without the cartoon-ish black lines. Thanks for sharing Sandy
Fantastic card, as usual ! I agree 100% with you regarding copying industry. In French we say : « You´re never rich enough to buy cheap goods ». And its true, small prices mean small quality and at the end you end-up buying the real thing !!!
I had no idea there were crafty crooks. That's awful. I always use the links provided. I am more then happy to help support your absolutely awesome videos! Thank you so much for the eye opener Sandy! Have a sweet day.
So adorable, the snowman on ice skates stamp has the best look of joy on his pudgy face, I’m guessing he does because Sandy Allnock is making him glide ever so smoothly across the ice & inspiring us to rise above, inspiring us to do what’s right…this is the main reason I follow you!!! Love ya sista💗🤗😇.!!! Thanks for sharing your time and creativity!!!!
You are not only a wonderful artist but a wonderful person inside. God has surely blessed you because you do the right thing, and are a true servant to God and others. Thanks for the video and for standing up for others!
Thank you once again for your helpful, encouraging, and informative videos. Also, thank you for talking about counterfeiting. Never thought about it before since I am fairly new to stamping and all.
Thank you for the colored pencil tutorial. Thanks for the information regarding the counterfeit craft supplies. I always buy from good companies. I have seen crafters buying dies from China and yep, they are very inexpensive, I have seen the prices. I want to support companies here in the USA or other small Mom and Pop businesses, and you will get a better product also (in my opinion). Your card is adorable and a lot of good tips.
So dang cute! You give me so much inspiration. Have just got all the stamps and supplies to do the colored pencil jump start class. Can’t wait to do it! And thank you for the card you sent. I have it on my craft room shelf in a place of honor. I treasure it and getting it made my day
Hey Sandy! I love the three snowmen spelling out the word JOY!! Such an great card...and I don’t think you added to much snow!! I think the amount of snow is perfect!! Sandy you did an awesome job on all three cards. ⛄️❄️☃️
Does anyone else wonder how the snowman in this image attached his skates to his feet? The blade part just seems to be mounted to the soles of his feet! LOL Seriously, I love how you colored this image, and thank you for showing how to indicate motion. I guessed when I saw the photo at the beginning of the video that you had used a blending stump for that part. But I thought you had used Gamsol to get that effect. So I guess I was half right! The other 2 cards were so cute, too. I especially love the Village People-esque snowmen image! LOL Thanks so much for sharing, and feel free to rant away on the counterfeiting topic! :)
I love these pretty Christmas cards, and I hope the foreign industry of counterfeiting doesn't affect your business of helping other (like me) to enjoy and learn from such a special Lady.
What a fun card. Love this how he looks like he’s really in motion. Thanks for showing us this technique. That is terrible about those foreign companies stealing images and selling the knock offs. I did not know they did that. Thanks for the info.
I agree Sandy it drives me nuts, I own a papercrafting shop and was asked why dont I buy things from these rip off places. I simply say they do not support the craft industry and you should not buy from them and you get what you pay for.inferior product. Keep up the good work love your videos
Nice idea to create motion. I agree, these counterfeits kills everything for everybody. Almost the same in the music industry. Like you say, quality goes with originals.
Sweet card and love the tips for creating motion. It is unfair to artists and crafting companies to have their products ripped off. It is annoying to me personally, and as you mentioned the one way we can combat it is to chose not to buy from those types. I've never seen anything that I thought was ridiculously priced in the card arena, but I did get scammed on Cameo (the cutting machine) mats FROM Amazon! So, beware, just because something is sold on Amazon, (and pretending to be Cameo Silhouette) apparently doesn't guarantee that it is made by the company it is purported to be made by. Hrrumph.
I buy from the original designers, but I have to admit I haven’t seen the knock off places. I watch the videos and then I use the links to go and buy that way. Very cute card and thanks for sharing.
I've also seen baby oil and glycerin used to blend colored pencil. I'm wondering what the difference is with those and the one you're using, and if coconut oil would also work. Love your videos! Hey, maybe do more of a tease video on RUclips then have the full view of the stamps on Patreon for like a $1 tier? Maybe that will weed out the copy hacks?
Beautiful card as always Sandy! Love how happy he looks gliding 😂 I am fairly new to stamping and though it is very hard to keep up with so many companies and all their releases. It is sad to hear this happens to their designs. I try to wait to buy the more expensive sets. However, i have found some at stores like Michaels and Joanns that when on sale have more reasonable prices, so I snag those when I can :)
Michael's & JoAnn's do have some cute things, but make sure you check the country of origin. If they are made in China, even if they are not knock-offs, they are generally of very low quality. Especially with clear stamps. Sometimes the adage is true: you get what you pay for. I have sets I got at Michael's (Recollections brand, made in China) that either don't stamp well, or don't stay on the block very well--or both! Photopolymer clear stamps made in the U.S. (I suppose European countries might be comparable) are the best quality. Granted, I haven't had the same problems with rubber stamps, so I'm not quite as disinclined to buy those even if they are from China. Just my 2 cents' worth! :)
@@andrealavigne7824 I agree, though I am guilty because I do fail to look at that sometimes. My husband always tells me to mind that, but do I listen? lol. Thoughbit is hard to find things because almost everything is made in China, including some of the brands we love. But I am learning and are happy that so many crafters share this information for us newbies. Thank you!
idk how difficult it would be to put a blur over the stamp, enough to not get details, but can still show what you're doing? Maybe? Hope you figure it out :)
he is delightful. I am so sad to hear about the counterfeiting! It breaks my heart. I stick to reputable companies that you and other paper crafters recommend.
I've been boycotting anything "made in China" (as much as possible) for years. Just saw a bunch of dies on Amazon for ridiculously low prices...obviously knockoffs, so posted a comment about it. Have an online friend who thinks it's great she can buy dies so cheaply. I gave her my opinion, which had no impact. You have to be guided by your own moral compass. Our crafting industry is not that large, so its imperative we support them and not faceless thieves from China.
Keep in mind that made in China does not equal counterfeit. A number of well-respected companies have their products made in China. It's the companies that steal designs that are the issues. Anytime something seems too good to be true (in this case a stamp or die that is vastly cheaper than the name brand one) usually is.In some of my papercrafting groups, I try and explain the ethical, moral and financial reasons why buying counterfeit items is wrong. Many will try and argue that THEY WANT the item and don't care. As an artist, I find that sad.

I understand them not wanting you to show the whole set of stamps, but it really is stupid, the places doing the counterfeiting can just go to the web sight where they are sold, so it’s just making us have to look there to so we can see the whole stamp set, it’s going to lower their sales, most people won’t go to their website just to see what the whole stamp set looks like, if they see the whole thing and know they love it and want it badly, than they will go to make the purchase, but if they don’t even know but the few stamps you may use looks like, they will forget and not even look. It’s silly really. Nothing they do will stop the company’s from stealing their ideas, they are all the way in China, the amount of money it would take to sue them, far out weighs the few bucks they might lose on people buying them from China instead of them, if they would have more reasonable prices, people wouldn’t have to purchase from there, and the people that buy from China most likely wouldn’t have purchased from them in the first place.
Buying stolen goods like you are recommending is a federal crime. And our government could be putting sanctions on the countries stealing our intellectual property, but nothing is being done. See if you can keep doors open with charging less than it costs to make products. I will never ever support any sites that operate unethically. Cheating must never be endorsed.
I’m a bit confused as I never recommended to buy them from China, just that they are fighting a losing battle, at least I believe they are. I’m not saying it’s right, just that in some cases, some companies charge so much, like $25.00 for a little stamp set, I buy my fair share from all these companies believe me, but I’d love to save some money while doing so, I just normally stay away from the companies that charge so much, I’m in no way enforcing buying from those companies that are counterfeiting. Maybe I didn’t word that correctly. I apologize if I was misleading.
Sorry, I’ve had some really harsh comments on the topic and thought you were leaning that way. The companies I work with are honest and I know they aren’t gouging anyone. They’re paying living wages and doing right by their staff-I don’t support any whose workers aren’t sharing in the benefits. It’s within our rights as consumers to choose what we will pay for products, but when we only buy when we find it cheap or on a huge sale, we’re undercutting our own interests. I don’t mind paying $25 for a product when I know it’s being made in healthy ways and workers are taken care of. ❤️
One other thought too--companies’ expenses are skyrocketing as they legally have to go after counterfeiters in order to protect their own trademarks. If they just let thieves steal from them, they lose any rights to their own work. So counterfeiting is costing all of us more by prices rising. 😢
It’s so sad that we can’t even share our artwork anymore without some jackwad stealing it. Im very sensitive to theft these days. 2 weeks ago my 4runner was stolen from my driveway in the middle of the night and I will probably never see it again. What is this world coming to? Very sad.
