Hi everyone we’re back with a wonderful story about three ducklings of a species that has almost gone extinct.
Ever since I was a little boy, ducklings have been my first love.
So I was thrilled when I got the chance to get some precious rare eggs to incubate and help to protect a once famous duck species from vanishing for good.
The Anas Curvirostra - The Hook Bill
It was capable of producing over 300 eggs a year and had a funny appearance with its curved beak.
Once there were millions of this ducks and now there are only about 80 good (well formed) egg laying female ducks of the Hook Bill left.
I got in contact with a man that is trying to keep the species alive.
We discussed that giving this duck some attention and telling its story could maybe help.
I have learned a lot from him and I was also happy to share my 30+ years of experience in incubating and raising ducklings.

About one hundred years ago
Duck eggs were more important than chicken eggs
One kind of duck in particular was famous for its egg production
And its funny appearance…
The Hook Bill
Once, there were millions of them
Now, all those ducks are gone
Except for about 80 egg laying female ducks
To me that is sad
So I visited a man much like myself
And offered my help in trying to save…
The species from going extinct
I got four rare and precious eggs to put in my incubator
Duck eggs need special treatment
They need to breathe and cool down 10 minutes a day
In three of them…
Life started
Exactly as planned, after 28 days I could hear the first one…
That night
Now IF she is a she, she will be of real importance to her species
She will be one of the ast 80 (and now +1 :) survivors
I was very excited
For a duckling this rare I had never seen before
Under a mother duck…
The egg would be crushed a little, which helps the duckling to hatch
She was clearly exhausted
Yet her sound was strong and relaxed
Outside the incubator, I always keep them warm with my breath
Hello little friend
The next morning the second one hatched
Yeeee… a yellow one
Hmmmm, better keep her with me some more
An hour later it was almost dry
Whilst the first two were going as planned
I thought the third one would be fine as well…
When it was hatching, I thought everything was alright
And still I thought everything was fine
I even thought it was funny how much she matched my beard
…but then I noticed…
This I had seen before…
Her balance was not functioning
Oh no!
She would not be able to walk or eat
This means her chance of survival were close to zero
But I’ve been taking care of ducklings…for 30 years
If I can fixate her for one whole night
She has a small chance her balance recovers
The next morning…fingers crossed
I’m sorry I just can’t always fix it…
So far so good
Now….please, please be able to walk
Here we go little friends

In my opinion,it is not the ducks that are rare,but the heart of this man is not something you see every day.These acts of kindness to these animals are heartwarming to me.

Yethet myth I’m going to assume he’s over 25 years old, mostly because a 7 year old is likely to be swearing (and if he is that’s a strange and sad childhood)(my opinion )and he probably cried a lot when he was 7-9. (I did) and judging from that 15 is the minimum but he’s probably over 20 if I has to guess he’s 29 (no offense).

After raising ducks, geese, chickens, and guineas for years I became extreme allergic. These videos give me the joy with none of the anaphylaxis. 😊

The chance of you responding is low, but I am curious, why are you basically everywhere I watch videos?
Solstice_The_Tech_Marine They quickly comment, one of the first things they do, and they have a couple of like bots to get them to around 10 likes. After that, all the likes are real people (hopefully).
I adore watching babies wiggle out of their eggs successfully! And the way they bond with him, is very heartwarming to see.

I swear this man forgets more about birds in a day than I have known my entire life. I hope that one day I can have a fraction of his bird-wisdom and maybe also have some tales to tell about feathered friends I helped out. For now I will just continue watching them from afar and try to learn more of their birdy ways.

When I was in grade school, we hatched some chicken eggs. They ALL were like the last duck. It was deeply upsetting. This was the late 90s/early 00s before the internet was widely available and helpful in situations like this.
It really warmed my heart to see the last duck recover. Like, tears in my eyes.
Unfortunately I don't know what became of the chicks from my classroom. My teacher kinda told us that she had taken them to a farm. And, you know, fourth graders know what that means, they aren't dumb lol.

Every spring ducks come to our local neighborhood pond. Often one will mistake our pool & foliage to build their nest. About 5 yrs ago, I woke up to 13 ducklings in my pool. Momma duck never came back. Noone locally would take them. We raised them. It was tiring but so gratifying too.

I guess its something with allowing the muscles and such to develop just a bit more so the duck COULD POSSIBLY walk the next day? But im no duck expert so I'm not entirely sure.
sometimes they need just a bit more time to develop, so the sock acts like an egg, keeps them from moving around too much, and allows the body to sorta catch up. It doesn't always work, but sometimes it does
or maybe it similar how people can adapt to those glasses where you see everything upside down it takes like a week i think but you can do it
in the same way a new born duckling still has a very malleable mind that is rapidly developing and by forcing them to stay still and upright in the sock the brain
can adopt that as the new normal which is of course a major developmental change but that is why it only works sometimes and only ducklings ?

I love that they make sound in the egg before they’re born. For some reason I find that wild. The little yellow one cuddling is next level cute. Ducklings and other chics are so little and delicate, it’s amazing they survive and thrive jn the wild.

Every generation has it's horrific nightmarish people. But .... something is just going downhill and all I ever see anymore is anger and crazy! .... it's scary! :( I even see children (young boys around 10+years) being exposed to social media p*rn! ...... (yes..... p*rn... not just twerking!)
Instagram used to be a gorgeous photography site. Now my feeds are bombarded with unwanted TIK TOK posts of people arguing about Lip Liner.....
I saw a post of a girl doing gothic lipstick and I got sucked into the comments and I was so shocked to see so many people saying how it is racist to use black lip liner and how it isn't for white girls and their "thin ass" lips. They were not trolling ... I've never seen such craziness in my life back in 2010!
We need better parenting and free mental health when severely needed!!!!! Medication should not be hundreds to thousands of dollars for ONE bottle!!!! 💔 the govt is trying to kill us :(
