This DUDE!
He talks about the game settings in-depth, the way I want to be informed.(Never skip a beat and no stone left unturned.)
Plus, sporting great hair all at the same time.
This set the tone for every comment under Gamers Nexus videos for the next 5 years.
Wish I was in a position to get this video more views. Best one i've seen, very thought out! thanks pal
has a 12gb card but still a old school square monitor
Limited to 1280x1024, hell I can run Doom 4 on my Radeon R7 360 with 2GB Vram with this res.
you’re rich.. but poor... 😀😀😀
@@g_pazzini i dont get it ?
Thank you! This is what I call a guide. You have given detailed explanation of almost every setting with charts that actually show how much each setting hits the performance plus sample images.Absolutely great work!Once again, thank you very much!

This is an informative video. But, you missed the most crucial aspect, CPU performance.
I imagine most people suffer from major frame rate drops when driving through busy streets etc. This is almost exclusively CPU bound and can be shown to be so by lowering the resolution to the lowest settings and seeing that the frame rate DOESNT improve - which of course it would do if the gpu was to blame.
So, the fix is:
1) Find the busiest street where you are getting noticable frame drops.
2) Lower resolution to minimum
3) Lower 'Population', 'Variety' and 'Distance Scaling' to zero.
4) Play game and notice that FPS has greatly increased.
5) Raise those three settings until you start seeing frame rate drop below your required v-sync lock.
6) You know have eliminated CPU bottleneck and can now raise resolution.
7) manipulate other graphic options until you start to see frame drops.
I have fx 8370 clocked at 4.75 and the game CRAWLS during the city. Its gross. However, following this method I can now play 1080p at 50FPS on 50Hz display with no frame drops.
Seriously guys. Find the equilibrium point where the CPU starts to cause issues. If not, all the other settings in the world will make ZERO difference to you.
Well Done! This game is a beast of its own. Feel like there could be an entire series done on these settings. This being an overview, and a great one at that. Thanks!
This was really great, I like the detail you go in to on the workings of each setting as well!
Awesome guide! Thanks for testing all the stuff.
One of the most frank and simple, Gamers Channels on RUclips! You guys are great!! :)
I just purchased GTA V yesterday. I'm averaging between 55-90 FPS with two Gigabyte 980 Gaming editions and a 4930K. I never played GTA before and I must say this is absolutely eye candy. I currently have a 1080P Asus monitor but im running the game at 2560 X 1440P through DSR. MSAA is maxed out.
This guide helped me hit 100 fps lock on my Korean IPS 100hz 1440p monitor!
I was just playing on all normal except for textures because I was overwhelmed with the amount of options, this is amazing! Thank you!
It's insane to see just how much technology has evolved in 5 years, here I am now running GTA on 4k at max settings except grass with 4x msaa on a 2070 super and I'm getting 140 fps
Try online, u wont be able to hit 140fps bruh. I play online on very high settings with msaa off, and grass settings to high and get around 70-100fps in GTA online, I get around 130fps in offline though, I have a 2060 super paired with 3600 and 16gb of 3000mhz ddr4 kit
No for all of us lol, I have an I9-9900k with a 2080 Super and I get frame dips as low as 30 on 1080p...
@@AdmiralBored If you pull up task manager on your second monitor and start driving on online you'll see your CPU start shitting myself
How many dousin cores and GHz does your cou have?
this should get more views !!
Good Work Guys this should help
Can you maybe do a CPU optimisation guide in future?
I have a fx600+7950 and i am shooting for 60fps
thank's men .. best video i fond on YT and i have been searching for some time
you are the best .. wish you all the best in the rest
Thanks man this really helped. I had some settings on ultra that were really tanking my fps
I get a pretty consistent framerate of around 50 in benchmark tests, but when I'm driving fast, it just cant keep up. If I'm driving fast or have cops after me my game literally slows to a stop, sometimes for 5 seconds or more. It's infuriating. It says I have 6144MB of video memory and I'm only using half at the moment. I have all settings at pretty much the lowest, MSAA FXAA etc. all off. Native resolution for my monitor is 1920x1080. Drivers are up-to-date.
My rig isn't a powerhouse but it should really do better I think:
AMD A10-7850k Kaveri 3.8GHZ with Coolermaster Evo for cooling, never really goes past 60c
8GB 2133 RAM (rated 2400 but is very unstable even though my mobo supports it so I had to underclock)
Gigabyte Radeon R7 250 2GB DDR5 (paired with dual graphics mode of my Kaveri)
ASRock Fatal1ty FM2A88x+ Killer mobo
600w EVGA PSU
What can I do to fix this WITHOUT upgrading hardware? At this point I don't even care if the settings are at the lowest, I just want it to be stable.
*EDIT* After disabling the dual graphics, this problem has appeared to have gone away. This is a real shame though, because the whole reason I bought the r7 and an A10 was so I can use the dual graphics. All that added video memory was also nice...
Crazy to think this was only 8 years ago.
Is it just me or anisotropic filtering is not working? For example: I can only see the High res textures when i am reeeeaally close to it, on the ground I can see the textures loading the high res version as I go walking, it's more evident on grass/dirt. The same happens with the shadows,
Really close: from the back of a car to it's hood
ivi982010 Textures blur over distance when viewed at an angle, and anisotropic filtering tries to get rid of that. This is separate from texture resolution, so it doesn't help with textures loading in.
I noticed it too... only clears up 5 feet in front of my car tops.
dsxz Yes, I been looking for solutions and you can fix it by enabling the anisotropic filtering for the application from the driver (AMd catalyst in AMD) and disabling the one in-game
Very nice video! I have been really enjoying the content of your channel, keep up the good work!
Great guide thanks - I was wonder why my FPS dipped quite a bit outside the city due to grass and shaders.
Just the fact that I can run this game impresses me. I'm running on a 4 year old laptop and I still hit medium settings just fine.
This channel gives a lot of quality data. Thank you for this.
Thanks a lot for this excellent guide! Gamers nexus is the BOSS!
This is super quality content. Great in-depth analysis.
This was very helpful. You just earned yourself a sub.
As usual, great video man.
you can fully remove the shadows, lights, and fog volume on the settings.xml witch is on this location "X:/Rockstar Games/GTA V/settings.xml" where the X: setend for the partition of your hdd/sdd where you have your user. (more i deepth look up for lower setting gta on google)
this video helped me a lot mister. thank you.
Knocked it out the park again with this one.
I had been messing about with settings on release, now I cant get in the settings, bugging big time.
Great Video. Really learned a lot, thanks!
Thank you, Mr. beautiful man.
Pretty cool video, thanks a lot dude. helped me realize some things, i almost knew for sure :)
Does GTA V work properly in cards like Nvidia Geforce GT 610,20,30,40 Or Geforce GT 720,30 or 40 ? With minimum graphic settings without LAGS ?
Amazing video.. You really know a lot about these settings, far more then I thought I would hear, I even learned something. Big like from me + you got a new sub from me too.
Great video man!
I have a GTX 980 and I can't maintain 60 FPS at 1080p if I enable MSAA or TXAA, so I'm forced to use only FXAA. The advanced settings are all disabled and everything else is maxed out, except for the grass quality that is set on Very High. What I've experienced is that some times the graphics card usage stays around 65% and it still keeps dropping to 45-50 FPS, for no apparent reason. The CPU usage never goes above 50%. The video memory usage is around 2.4GB at all times. It's kind of a disappointment, because the GTX 980 can handle pretty much everything else.
Great video!
Nice vid bro ! 😃👍
Good work n really helpful.
Great vid. Keep it up!
Hi, Please help me getting GTX 960 2GB. This is my PC and i'm going to buy GTX 960 2GB for GTA V and for Battlefield 4. Is it good ? Can I go for it ?
MY PC:
MOBO : ASUS B85M-G
Processor : Intel 3.4 GHz i3 4130 4th Gen
RAM : Corsair Vengeance 8 [4x2] GB 1600 MHz
HDD: 500 GB
PSU : Corsair VS 550
Monitor is 720p thinking of getting 1080p too
Thanks in advance!
Watching this in 2021 looking for a real advice and then i found Jesus himself! Grande Steve!
If I put x2 MSAA and go enable MFAA in the Nvidia control panel, will I get more FPS with the same quality?
Hehe, can't wait for "GTA VI Graphics Optimization Guide" ;)
very informative video!
Turned off MSAA completely and doubled my FPS, what the hell. (from 50-60 to 120-130)
Anyone else has this problem?
I play GTA V, mostly with LSPDFR and a bunch of mods installed, not too many graphical mods though, mostly scripts and a couple car models.
But whether I run the game on 1080p everything at normal, or 1440p everything on very high, i get 25-40 fps
It's like changing all the settings does nothing to performance...
R9 390 8Gb / Fx 6300
why so few views ?! very good guide !!
His face reminds me of Jack Black
So.. I dont get it.
I ve got a i7-6700k w 16gb of ram and a nvidia gtx1070,
and when I try to run gta 5, i might as well plug in the toaster...
and this is only for gta. Metro Exodus, Squad, ARMA 3, PREY all ultra and not a problem, so what am I doing wrong?
Dont use 8x msaa 🤦♂️ and resolution scale at 2.5x and grass at ultra hell turn off all advanced settings and watch your fps go up
@@ok-70707 so I actually fixed it.. still got everything ultra, but in had to disable some audio input and output... don't ask me how or why but it worked!!
@@GeeZedKay tell me what it was
@@evenrik_2214 I just had to disable some audio inputs in the device managers.
It took some tweaking but it runs smooth as butter!
What graphics setting would an nVidia GT 710 2GB be able to be stable at?
Bruh. I'm from the future and GTAV still runs like shit. It only used like 50% of my modern GPU and the CPU seems to be the problem now no matter how much power I throw at it.
I was so happy about my i5 8250, 8gb ddr4 and graphics HD 520... turns out it runs fine but when I drive it goes to 10 fps =(
finally a good in-depth video of the graphical settings in GTA5 thats far better than all of the other bullshit videos trying to "explain" this out there.
I'm getting trouble with draw distance.. I can't find out how to make textures shadowes etc look sharper at a distance, I've tried distance scaling and extended distance scaling but everything looks blurry at a distance.. any advice anyone?
sam rees Probelm solved. The Anastropic Filtering x16 in game didn't work so I applied x16 Anastropic Filtering via the Nvidia control panel, problem solved.
How is this in my recommended 5 years later?
thx 4 the vid & info :D
Great video but I'm pretty sure Ultra Shadow Quality doesn't exist in GTA 5, it only goes up to Very High. And the difference in fps between Very High and High is a LOT. It's a good 9 fps or so. And the difference from High to Normal is around 3-4 fps. I'm not sure why what is mentioned in the video on Shadow Quality is completely different. It's the same story with Reflection Quality. The actual difference between Ultra and Normal is around 20 fps, not what is mentioned in this video. Everything else is more accurate.
I have duel 980s with 4 gigs of memory on each card and i7-4790k and 16 gigs of ram cant run maxed settings
but it seems that it might not be using sli
Just wondering will my 770 2 gb make it to very high- high with a solid 60fps?@1080
theOS Maxwell Check our GPU benchmark :)
Gamers Nexus Thank you it really helped I think it's time to upgrade lol :)
theOS Maxwell Well my gtx 750 ti can do 60 fps at 1080p with everything on High.. So im sure you will be able to run it very high at least.
Cool :D I'm still downloading though LOL
***** how did you do it
nvidia geforce says the game cannot be optimized.. any fix???
No matter what I do I can't get an average 60fps on my R9 270x. Whenever I drive I stutter a lot. I turned everything down and set my resolution to 720p and nothing has worked. I've tried updating my drivers as well but it doesn't seem to help. I've seen videos of an R9 destroying GTA V so I don't know why mine won't work as well. Can anyone help?
I was getting terrible performance on my R9 280 too, even at low settings, so much that i even stopped playing because of it, now it's fine with my r9 390
Hey man, thanks for the reply. a while back there was a driver update that helped out and my game runs quite well now! :)
You look really cute with that hair style
cant wait to test my 980 ti with 4690k tomorrow,, after i have assembled it :D!
i have an weak cpu what settings should i drop?
I always believe and feel that the shadows drop down my fps, and i steel feel it when i turn them on ( i play with no graphics card)
Same but I have vega 11 :)
No way turning off gras because it's not just graphics but actually whole element and the game looks much better with it
