Damn thank you my friend now you taught me how to program my Pofung/Baofang UV82 the radio shop in my town wanted $50 bucks to program 20 channels you saved me some money thanks again
@Francis Allen - I'm glad the video helped, I have nearly 100 channels programmed on my HT radios. But it is tedious to program so many channels by hand, so I use CHIRP software. It is free and open source, but it does require a windows computer & a programming cable. If you invest $10-$15 getting the cable, you can program radio after radio in seconds. Please see links below: chirp.danplanet.com/ www.miklor.com/UV82/
@@OhioBaji Hi the programming cannot be done on Mac? only windows? Also where can I get the cable from? AM planning a boating trip withy wife, would like to buy a few radios without spending so much on regular vhf. Thanks! You're the best!
Thank you! Very helpful video. Just got my Baofeng UV82, reset it to English language and ready to start programming! It’s nice to know I don’t need to connect it to the computer to program frequencies (unless I want to name channels).
If you use free software CHIRP, you can - Name channels, change backlight timeout, adjust how sensitive each squelch level is. The factory default squelch sensitivity ranges from 20 to 50 for squelch levels 0 to 9, which is not very useful. The actual sensitivity range is 0 - 127. Using CHIRP, you can exploit the entire 0-127 range, which means changing squelch will actually work as expected.
Very easy I don't know why they made it where you hold the menu button down four frequency mode but it is what it is I think the company is gotten so good over the years I think they're coming out with some nice very budget-friendly radios compared to some other manufacturers I'm now buying these radios 👍🌞👍
Thanks. Mine started speaking Chines to me...Have to get English back. They don't include PC programming cable. If you get one, order it separate. Thanks for the very clear and concise instructions. None of this is explained clearly in the operating instructions. Glad I have been a HAM since '89.
Thanks, I had just unpacked the new radios and I saw the "Voice" on menu 14" and hour later. I am very surprised that these radios have so much technology and capability for $21.00. Your video was very valuable to kick start the process. Thanks
@@starwoodstudios1 I don't know of a repeater that uses DCS codes, all of the analog repeaters I use only use CTCSS codes which are MENU options 11 & 13.
Yes, CTCSS code is used to open a repeater with a selected PL tone. DCS codes are used to block out other radios that are not transmitting the same DCS code. Acronym "Digital Squelch Code". "That way you can monitor, and squelch opens only when the matching DSC code is present in the transmission. I think the repeater must filter out the DSC code. Thats why it is working on simplex and not through repeater. Thank you. I will look into it more.
Thank you. If you are interested, I recently added a couple of videos on how to restrict Baofeng / Pofung radios to Amateur bands - ruclips.net/video/WyCgB-8rggA/видео.html

Can I program Transmit and receive frequencies with a PL tone for fire dept this way?
Yes, if you omit the PL tone on receive, you'll hear all transmissions including those work other PL tones & no PL tone.
Awesome brother thank you !!

Quick question, do DCS codes work through a repeater? It does work on simplex. No luck through the repeater I use.

Great video, but you weren't telling us what you were doing with some of the key presses, like when you deleted the channel 2.
Nice job.

PO-FUNG... that's a new one...
So you can't change the channel's name manually on those UV82 isn't it?! You need to use the software to do that no?!
