I never thought a black loafer made sense, black being a formal color and loafers being a casual style, but now that I see them I think they may be something I need to pick up myself. I can't wait to see how the crocodile de Rede loafers come out!

Bespoke is clearly the best way to go , the best way to live. The black loafers are Over the Top bespoke. I have one pair of shoes that gives me that Exquisite bespoke feeling and look. Chestnut in color. I love the low profile. I also love the shoebox. That is the greatest shoebox I've ever seen it looks more like a file.

Absolutely beautiful. I hope to be ordering my first pair of bespoke shoes from Cleverley in a few years. Going to get a classic cap toe oxford in black (my go-to shoe for work.)
AshJWilliams There absolutely could be a better pair to do as your first! If one was to only have one pair of bespoke shoes made, it would almost certainly be my #1 recommendation.

As far as storage goes, is it best to save the boxes? All my shoes are stored in boxes but I noticed that some people don't
If you don't have a shelf allocated to shoe storage, save the boxes. If not, don't.

I have to say, I don't normally like loafers, whether of the typical tassle, penny or horsebit variety (unless they're slippers that nobody else will ever see outside), but I really like the elegant simplicity of these. I can understand the desire for multiple pairs.

zoukatron Cleverley has a really beautiful bow tie tassel loafer that is one of my favorites. But, otherwise, I’m certainly very much of your school of thought. I have an old penny loafer, but it isn’t a pair I go to first to wear.

Looks phenomenal. This truly has become your signature shoe. I do feel your next pair after the alligators should be a nice suede. Maybe a deep charcoal or nice olive green. Just a thought.

My go to shoe brand is Crockett and Jones as well as Joseph Cheaney. The Crockett and Jones Derby shoes made from Crocodile are £4,500 for an off the shelf pair, heaven knows the price of these, beautiful.

Great video, Kirby. I have a question on loafers in general. I note that some loafers when worn (especially when standing up) tend to have a gap on either side of the opening. Was this an issue during any of your fittings? If yes, how did Cleverley deal with the gap? Thanks!

Another excellent video and you certainly acquired a beautiful bespoke pair of shoes. I do have a question regarding the shoe tree/last. Since the shoe tree is not made from cedar, I assume the shoe trees do not have the ability to absorb moisture from the shoe, as is true with a cedar shoe tree. Do you use the George Cleverly shoe tree or do you replace it with a cedar shoe tree. Thanks and keep up the great work! Ed

Also, doesn't suede on the inside heel cause your socks to pill or wear out quicker in that particular area?

Hi Kirby, great video as always! Beautiful shoes! Could you make a video on how to properly breaking in leather shoes, particularly breaking in the leather soles, so you don't slip and fall? I am totally new to purchasing all leather shoes, so that would be very helpful, thank you!
Just wear them. They will break in my friend.

it is bespoke. so it is probably 3 times more than an EG and two times more expensive than berluti RTW

Thanks, Yan. It really depends on how well-polished the shoe was when I received it. A lot of bespoke shoes come with a great polish job, so these I won't immediately polish. However, most RTW shoes receive no polishing at the factory, so i'll polish these immediately.
How much should one pay for their 1st pair of dress shoes? I have a 300-400 Budget. I heard a lot if good recommendations for edmonds however are there any other Brands out there around that price range
Kirby, I agree beautiful box. Do you ever yourself, or recommend, storing your shoes in such high end boxes?
sjvdo I actually sell all my boxes on eBay because I really don’t use them, nor do I have the room. As you’ve seen in my closet tour, I’ve had shelves belt to store my shoes.
As for storage, these boxes are fine as long as they allow the shoe to breathe. Don’t ever store leather shoes in plastic boxes, as they can allow mildew to develop.
Wow I tought it was not ok to have the same shoe in different leathers and colors, but maybe it work better with bespoke ones.

Exceptional leather. Being so simple and interesting at the same time worth a lot. Texture and design make the deal.
I've heard some bespoke makers crease the shoes with a pencil against the vamp for a proper creasing in future wear, does Cleverly do such a thing?
I've never heard of this, but I'll ask the next time I have the pleasure to be in the company of a bespoke shoemaker.

I know it is a matter of personal taste .. but I prefer tassels and brogue touches to add complexity to the shoes .. the simplicity is overwhelming on the quality of crafting.
I prefer simplier/plain designs. I think it makes the shoe more elegant and more versatile.
Definitely a great looking pair of shoes I confess I'm not very knowledgeable about bespoke shoes indeed would welcome the opportunity to learn more....however my question is can you only get bespoke shoes outside of the U.S. or are there companies within the U.S. that also do bespoke shoes wonderful video thanks.
I found some great shoes on Cobbler Union site. There are videos on youtube that are mentioning US bespoke shoes but can't remember out of bat.

Hi Kirby, what are your thoughts on Mezlan for Miguel Angel shoes? They are made in Spain and wanted to know your if they are worth the investment.
Hi Kirby, are you intending to put a rubber sole on to protect the leather sole? Or do you resole once is the leather sole is worn out?
Stanley Chung I really try to avoid wearing my bespoke shoes when it’s raining, so I don’t put any rubber protectors on my soles (especially my bespoke shoes).
Bespoke shoe makers hammer or roll the outsoles in order to further compress the leather fibers. This creates a very dense and long-lasting outsole that is not prone to the quick wear of less expensive, softer outsoles.
This is why we use JR Redenbach outsoles on the shoes on our Kirby Allison Certified Recrafting Program. The oak-bark tanning process creates an incredibly dense outsole that is long-lasting.

Whats your take on Tom Fords Ombre Leather or Tuscan leather fragrance? Intresting to see your take on a leather based fragrance!
It’s a bit late but I own a perfume shop. Tom Ford’s fragrances are very unimpressive to me. If you are looking for a nice leather check out what Serge Luten has to offer. If you are looking for an amber check out Frederic Malle’s Musc Ravageur and I highly recommend their fragrance called Monsieur.

Beautiful Shoes! Any chance you could kindly tell us about the the average cost of a first pair at cleverly in shell cordovan (including a first last)?
Standard bespoke is £2,950. The Russian Reindeer is £4,000. And for comparison, Alligator is £4,875. I’m not sure about Cordovan, but it’s somewhere between Calfskin and Russian Reindeer.
They have the lowest entry point of any of the west end shoemakers.

I enjoyed your video. I am a size 13 4E (US) or, 48 (EU). I have wide feet. I have trouble finding shoes for the few formal occasions I need to attend each year. I live in SoFL. I go to Europe and NYC from time to time. Actually, I just returned from Romania and Spain. I learned about Saint Crispin's in Brasov, Romania/Vienna, Austria. I was in Brasov and did not know that the factory is there and that I could have been fitted for bespoke.
My question is: for bespoke/custom shoes that will undoubtedly fit me perfectly, that I will rarely wear, that are not absurdly expensive, who would you recommend?

Do you are for pig skin any different than calf skin? I agree the that pig skin gives the black pair much more detail than calfskin. Can’t wait to see BdR #4...
Michael Stolarski I prefer pigskin for this particular model. It gives visual texture to what would otherwise be a very simple shoe.

Michael Stolarski ah, yes. You would care for pigskin the same as calfskin.
The taxonomy is this.
First, does your shoes fall into one of these categories: calfskin, cordovan, reptile, chromexcel, or suede. If so, follow the prescribed care methodology.
If not, then: is the leather waxed or unwaxed. If waxed, follow calfskin care methodology. If unwaxed, use Nappa Leather Balm (an unwaxed conditioner) for conditioning and, only if needed, some Pommadier Cream Polish for recoloring only if needed.

What about black box calf for this type of shoe? Is it more for the character of the grain of pigskin you chose pigskin?
I choose pigskin for the interesting texture. No reason I couldn't have the same model made from black calfskin. It would certainly be a beautiful shoe.

The Hanger Project I’m sure Cleverly has more options than I can imagine for suede.
You could get a pair in Navy I always feel like those types are a nod to Elvis. BUT looking at your collection I think a nice green maybe a nice addition olive green or forest green may make a nice casual shoe.
I trust whatever you choose with the input from the folks at Cleverly they will be an elegant work of art.

£2,950 ex-VAT to the United States. Based on today's exchange rate of approximately $1.30 to the British pound, they would cost about $3,850 USD. A relative bargain considering the cost of Lobb, Fosters, or Gaziano.

Where does pigskin lie in price heirarchy. It’s impossible to find so I guess it would be exotic but doesn’t seem like it would be too much more expensive.
