So much great music like this were made for these bands. Why don't we hear those pieces instead of the BS that is played today. The talent is there, let's bring the fans back. PLEASE!
Anybody who thinks su version is better, are just su fans.... NSU has this hands down
Thee BEST comparative vid IMO bro great job! The videos were awesome I thought SU was good in the beginning but like someone said the pocket was not locking ... Lol the Don't Stop/Thriller Intro!! OMG sounds sooo good!
To me, NSU had the arrangement that contained more of the clarity and flavor that the original song has. It's not just the tune that caught the attention of the listeners when Michael Jackson sang the song, it was the presentation of all the little details that made the entire piece a hit. To me, it was very clear that the band that pulled that off was NSU. Good job Spartans.
I agree that the Legion's is more balanced and the arrangement is more detailed. But both versions will peel your scalp back if you're the opposing band.

We did trust.. but our euphs had a bad habit of hanging over wit us cuz they were so crazy.. So the hangover got lost.. DIZZIAC 07 ✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾
All depends on what you want to hear. NSU's is more laid back. At the bridge, the dizzies have a tendency to get swallowed up by the bones. SU's *may* need to groove more. I personally am more partial to SU's version. NSU's is more technical - which is great. SU's is built for power and instant 'recognizability'. Those factors (which mostly become personal preference) will determine which one you like.
IMO,Both sounded great bout NSU had a better arrangement and sounded better overall to me!I wish these two could play eachother!
Judge them only when they meet in person. SU's sound in person is not easily overcome, modulations and a few screamers included.

NSU Sreaming squad is brutal. Watch the trumpet section row, right hand side, second tuba from the bottom. Watch that row. You can see them scream that high octive note at 2:56.... whew!!

Nsu band wouldn't dare offend the human jukebox. All of there clips are in front, SU sound is across the field.

Good job by both bands. NSU's version is clean and the trombones are on point. SU is coming with a slightly different-faster song with more groove and energy. Southern gets the edge on the "it" factor. Good arrangements!
You have to face SU, and you will not go the distance. I have seen many bands run out of music because they have 10 polished songs.
That was not the case for this nsu band 07-10.. we had a major book.. and even more than that, we had chops.. we practiced in a fully padded bandroom... SU is amazing but NSU was a force
I would have paid to see it happen.
Essentially a battle between Old School Southern (Sanford, Zachary, & Adams (and Jackson to be honest)) and New School Southern (Haymer).

NUMBER band Directors have been in the Business for a lot longer than Southern Directors at that time. Jackson and Haymer of the present are not the same young of that time. The Haymer arrangements of today are light years different and much more professional. Now that he is the Head Director of bands at Southern you, opponents that face him vet ready.
@kappapsi9 yes this is unofficial, but that doesn't matter. I just wanted ppl to easily b able to compare both bands on the same song. Plus, I'm bored so I'm gonna make some more...lol O_o

Spartans, by a country mile. Take that melody and chords crap back where you got it from. Stay true to the music. The song is not in the pocket at all.
@muplayer93 No, it was fair. It's just two clips comparing two bands. If one band sounds better than the other than hey, they do. Music is an auditory component, so if what you hear & process sounds better, than that's wut it is, plain & simple. Don't try & make it out of more than what it is. I hate when ppl blow things out of proportion. #cmonson O_o

@naturalbornscreamer oh im sorry if u didnt like that..but its just a way of saying....look bands have different styles and like SU can crank more than NSU...im a huge NSU fan and i play trumpet my self for a while and i can see the different styles with the too bands...it is what it iz...but if u like country and i like R&B...and we listening to each others styles of music..we both would not agree probably cuz its not the same... *JV

@naturalbornscreamer yea i got yuh but how many of the same songs does nsu and su play..i would love to hear nsu play swang. or i just dont give a f*** lol. but nsu focuses on musicality n su focuses on loud non sense (some times)..i guess we both will never know who is actually better until SU vs NSU comes around.
this wuz an unfair comparrision..cuz if u look at it. the bands have a distinct style. which are VERY different..nsu is acutally musical and plays alot of balad type songs. and SU plays crunk type songs..like if u compare any SU song they play well 2 the exact song NSU plays it would be a battle then...cuz NSU blows SU out of the water on this..but on head bussas..it would be different..cuz its two different tyles of the song.
@muplayer93 but this is not the case. It's the same song!! THE SAME SONG!! THE SAME SONG!! LOL! It's just different arrangements. I understand what you're saying about the "styles" of each band (& u comparing it to different genres of music is not proving anything b/c it's the same genre in this case), but still, it's like Lil Wayne hopping on everyone else's beats/songs & doing better. That arranging by NSU what's okay Su had a better Arrangement and more power. That was not my favorite by those guys NSU need some work
Su is a band with a big big book. Nsu has this song but su is that band. If they were in front off each other at nsu stadium, a lot of folks in Virginia would be on forums starting threads about how they never heard or saw a band like SU. I remember when they played bcc in jville and how everyone was amazed by them boys from the bayou.
I'm sorry su sound bad and the arrangment was awfull.... bones were over powering the band. I count make out the melondy which is sad cause the mellos, trumpets and btones had the same parts at some points?

Look at 2016 Queen City SU show then Look at Queen City 2017 NSU The look at those 50 plus trumpets for SU Then listen to the 21 NSU pushing to the heavans. And then ask yourself do you want this Lil bully pit bull of a band in your backyard. I think not.
I marched early 90 s Spartan Legion we never get to travel because of funds, when we do. Google Legion Vs Morris 2000, Texas southern 1999, Famu 2003, BCC 2014, What I'm saying. It ain't where you from Morgan 2009 , Fayetteville state 1992 Howard. Our biggest competitor in my opinion is A&T ANOTHER Meac class act toe toe to every year

Southern sounds like pure s*** and NSU would be a good band if they played with more discipline. Until NSU does this, they will not be in on the same level as BCU and FAMU. We suppose to be musicians, not Union Pacific Locomotives!! Good day.
