Great video. It is nice to see exactly what fits inside. The wheel test was an excellent idea and while throwing it across the driveway that many times seems a bit excessive it is good to see a failure point. Thank you for the information and allowing me to make a better decision.
At this time the TP Maxlite is about $80 bucks vs $120 for the Delsey. Maxlite is TP's entry level series. The TP Platinum series is made much stronger, but if you go to the new TP Crew Expert Global for $170 you will get their toughest bag that would withstand these tests much better. The Crew Expert is also smaller in external size (complies with 22x14x9) but with the same packing volume as the maxlite.
I wish you did get paid for your review! It was way more helpful than most of the others I’ve seen! I’m still deciding on what carry on to buy but I like the delsey after your review. Just wish it was under 7lbs..
Excellent review... Next time, you have to add something, one of the purposes of the hard shell baggages is, that protects the inside from any kind of liquids!! Hard decision, personal decision... Nice review
The concrete test and dropping a weight on the bags really hit home. That is probably exactly what happens at many airports when they are loaded and unloaded. I am a frequent traveller, but I am split on hard sided vs soft sided. A soft 🎒 without a trolley/ wheels holds more than a 4 wheeled 🎒. I used to be a samsonite fan, switched to delsey hard case and 4 wheels recently.
I heard the airlines treat TravelPro luggage better because they think you are crew. I just ordered the Travelpro Crew Versapack max for $173 with shipping and monogramed Luggage Tag
@@BrianFischer I thought this video was really great too. Other suitcases that seem to come highly recommended at the minute are the Calpak Ambeur and the Away Carry-on (or bigger carry-on). It would be fantastic to see those.
The Delsey Helium Ero with front access has a serious design flaw in the zipper where it unzips around the bottom. It hangs up and doesn't open all the way. The laptop area encroaches significantly into that side.I returned it.
Ha - someone finally noticed. Originally did the shot with underwear in there, but re-did it because, well the internet does not need to know what undergarments I wear.
Drives me nuts - packing videos where people put bare (DIRTY) shoes inside a suitcase. Always put shoes in some kind of shoe bag or protector, even plastic grocery bags work fine. I totally cringed every time you dropped weights and threw the bags around. Carry-ons don't get rough treatment like that, even if checked the airline "gorillas" don't damage luggage so badly. I would've like to see a drop test with full bags dropped on their wheels, which happens if you do check a bag and they come out wheels first on the bag belt. That being said, your video is thorough and informative. Thank you.

Hi.. I bought two travel pro spinner carry on's for my daughters (9 & 12 - they're about 50-70 lbs) and they LOVE to sit and ride them! Any testing for that? LOL. Appreciate the review though. Having said that... If the bags are fully packed and the kids sit on them - it still holds up. Carry ons will always see less abuse that checked bags though and soft sides can squoosh down a bit if needed to fit into airline sizers.

If you plan on using it frequently over the next 2 years while in Yemen, than I'd choose something like the Maxlite 4, since it has several more pockets to organize your stuff. On the other hand, if it's a one-time journey over there and you'll be staying in one spot for the majority of the time, something like the Chester as far as carry on luggage goes. There's fewer compartments, but more internal space where you can stuff things. Since you did say 30kg, which is about 66 lbs for those using the imperial system, you may even want to consider getting a checked-on bag since you'll be able to hold much, much more in it. Additionally, think about getting some space saver bags to suck out the air in some of your stuff. You'll be able to fit a lot more in the bag, you'll just need to watch the weight limit.

Hey Jonathan - Lately it's been the Chester. When I travel I keep anything work related (laptop, papers, etc.) in my backpack and then pack all my clothes in my carry-on. Since the chester maximizes one big compartment space, that's what I prefer since I won't be trying to get into my carry-on on the way to my destination.
These tests were interesting, but would carry-on luggage need to meet such an exaggerated durability threshold? I am sure that checked baggage would suffer more abuse which would warrant the severe knocking about that you gave these cases. Great that you sacrificed your own bags for this display though. Ideally I’d like to take both of these through the same conditions over the course of a few years, however that isn’t practical. One I’d look a little funny with two carry ons and that’s a lot of travel. The point of these tests was for the sake of time and consistency. While they’re not what a bag would see every trip, one could definitely see one of these occurrences at least once or more over several trips throughout the year.

Every now and than I got stuck checking my bag in a full flight and I’m getting to my gate last second. I appreciate the abusive of these bags nice job to the creator. Thanks for the review. The rip on the front of the TravelPro was from the weight being dropped on it, not from the concrete. With nothing in the bag to support it, the fabric of all layers ripped when the weight tried to push through it.
Troy R that’s the odd thing, I still think it was the concrete. I’m not sure if you can see it in the video, but the first dropped compressed the whole bag in. I don’t *think* that’s what tore it and I don’t remember seeing it after that test, but maybe it did!
Depends on if you're flying domestic or international. I've taken both on AA for a domestic flight, never had a problem. In reality, I think it depends on your gate agent. Most probably won't bat an eye at a bag that looks 'close'.

My delsey lost a wheel cover and the zipper broke because I put a boat engine inside my suitcase and attempted to close itm.

Travel pro spinner wheels are garbage. Customer service sucks worse.
