- This song is a great classic from the 70s, one that always played in my house growing up. While working with Joe Causi at CBSFM during our Saturday Night 70s broadcast, it was one of the most requested songs every single weekend. Today we learned that Lynn Anderson passed away at 67 years of age, so I decided to tribute the singer and song, by putting my own twist on a fun sing a long classic. Enjoy!

Thanks for this touching tribute this wonderful country singer, i met the Country Rose (lynn Anderson) when i was 12 in Fort Worth , Texas back in 19971 and she sang this song to me on my birthday, i cried when i heard she died. your great cover made my day, thanks!

This is one of my very favorite songs from my early college years, and you so it so beautifully Vinnie, as usual. You probably know that Joe South intended this song for a male voice (note the big diamond rings), but Lynn actually made it the hit that it became. She also recorded "Top of the World" before Karen Carpenter, but when Richard Carpenter and John Bettis saw it climbing the pop charts, Karen recorded it. Lynn's version is fine. Also liked Lynn's "How Can I Unlove You?"

Usually men don’t sing these kinds of songs, but I grew up with the attitude of just sing whatever you enjoy. My training and vocal coaches always taught me how to push the vocals in order to define the range. This song actually came as a result of a radio DJ telling me to go for it on a whim, and this was the end result. It’s one of my more popular RUclips videos too. This song originally was supposed to be sung by a man….and it was. Lynn didn’t listen to those who told her that it was a man’s song, she wanted to sing it anyway. I’m glad she did.
