Check out The Chambermaid (2018) her first film. Her latest film TOTEM is Mexico's entry to compete in Best International Film at the Oscars this year, the latter one will be released by Janus Films later this year.
This is the fourth interview I've watched in the last couple of days where the guest picked Onibaba. Im so intrigued by this film, going to watch it soon.
I given her a chance.. don’t think having the pleasure to watching something of her work .. but gonna do now .. and side note she seems like a wonderful person.. so I am glad on her behalf that she is where she is now .. Amazing 😊
ONIBABA is the film that introduced me to the Criterion Collection. Afterward, I realized many of the films I was raised on are in the Collection. Great choices.
I applaud her personality and choices. As a hispanic filmmaker I commend how she looks at asian cinema, which is something we should do a lot more. Also she seems a lovely person.
I really like Lila Aviles and her cinematic language, but both of her features haven't fully coalesced for me yet. I think she has a masterpiece waiting in her though.
Totem would be a great fit in the Criterion Collection: a lot of potential for creative design packaging + the best Mexican movie of the last 10 years.
Anyone knows if there's a statistics chart for these picks anywhere? I was wondering which is the most and the least popular film picked. Found one out there, but didn't answer my question.
Besides “Onibaba” getting its 2nd back to back recommendation, I looked up Aki Kaurismaki from this and I think I’m going to follow up with him. “The Match Factory Girl”look great and his modern day-set “Hamlet Goes Business” sounds like a fun premise!
@@mrbrex95 yeah, I meant more some of the stuff a bit before that. I thought the one before that was really good, with the Syrian immigrant. Though my favourite is probably Le Havre.
Alguien sabe si sus peliculas no son muy chilangas? No me gustan las peliculas chilangas. Exisiten peliculas mexicanas que capturan la esencia del contexto "mexicano" sin ser "chilango".
Domt know what shes saying, kind of like a james joyce Fellini piece....need some crack after this one....word salad fubar......sounds like frtune cookie medicine and i love it! 🕊️
@@mattbernabe she sounds like a few ball sacks are in her mouth or more like some animal snoring or snorkeling, but she's nice as Hell, or at least that's what the Frito fingers are saying on here.... I shrug my eyebrows... 🕊️
She's the coolest chilliest film director and I hope everyone watches Totem, her film is AMAZING
I love these videos, especially when they're with foreign film directors. I learn so much!
This introduced me to this director and i want to check out her films. Love how passionate she is and that she picked a film for her mum 🌻

Onibaba is getting a lot of love this week!
It deserves it!
I applaud her personality and choices. As a hispanic filmmaker I commend how she looks at asian cinema, which is something we should do a lot more. Also she seems a lovely person.
Love the way she pronounces Yi Yi
I thought she said GIGI and wondered if Criterion had put out the Leslie Caron/Vincente Minnelli musical...
I saw Totem last month, great film!
That's the second person this week who picked Onibaba. I'll have to check it out.
It's a masterpiece dude.
Definitely check it out. Kuroneko is also a great film by shindo, but my favorite of his is the naked island.
I just watched Totem. What a gem, so beautiful and moving.
Grandisima directora!!!!

I like how she just invented a bunch of new words
Kaurismaki! Edward Yang! Vcool choices
Love these videos! I’d like to see Lily Gladstone, Cara Jade Myers or Billy Luther here someday
I like the Spanglish. "You don't know if it's documental."

TOTEM by Lila Avilés 👏 ! !
Wow -- Onibaba again!
Suena como la tipica persona que dice que ha rodado una cosita sin importancia y al ver su trabajo notas como te golpea el alma de manera poderosa. Creo que ahora tengo que ver su trabajo para ver si estoy en lo cierto 😅.
A young filmmaker said his film school was watching Fellini's 81/2 every night .
I really like Lila Aviles and her cinematic language, but both of her features haven't fully coalesced for me yet. I think she has a masterpiece waiting in her though.
Love that her last choice was "Dude, Where's My Car?"....very underrated piece of cinema
“Dude, I know they’re sweet, but what does mine say?” One of the greatest lines in cinema history!
LILAAAAAA
I wanna see her him Tótem so badly.

I WOULD PICK FAST & FURIOUS 1-5
I never knew a girl like her would love one of the most controversial movies of all In The Realm Of The Sense. She has good taste in movies.
She's a 41 year old woman. Why is this surprising
Patronising nonsense
Mi novia

That movie TÓTEM is garbage
Couldn't they have found someone a little less annoying, Jesus Christ!
What's wrong with her?
I thought she seemed really sweet but to each their own.
does your life just suck? how could you say someone so lovely is annoying? god help you, seriously
