Hello, I was working on this piece and using lute technique thumb index. This is the first I have ever heard of dedillo technique. Do you advise trying to get this technique down or just continue the way I have been doing? It seems like the nail has to be grown out a bit as well. Nice interpretation by the way - very musical
I have the impression that vihuelists of the day considered it as optional rather than mandatory. I find that it comes in handy for some passages but in the end, if it sounds good it is good.
Ralph-I see you up/down stoking with the index! That's great and never saw that approach before your video ,at least as I recall. . When do you decide to employ that as opposed to Thumb -index alternation?
Thanks, John. I first became interested in the technique soon after I picked up the vihuela. I use both techniques, but this particular series of videos was made to demonstrate its use as suggested in the sources. References to it can be found in a number of early Spanish publications. If you're interested in researching a bit further, you'll find lots of information about it on the "research" page of my website.

: very nice ,im intrigued by the sound ,its lute like is nt it ?is it double course like a lute ? Id love to play a vihuela to see what its like
It has double courses and the same tuning as a 6-course lute, except perhaps that the lowest courses are in unison instead of octaves.
Bravo !!!!
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it!
