You can literally see the Constitution, Excelsior, and the Galaxy class starships in this one ship. I believe it is the only starship that shows the actual progress throughout the century. Live long and prosper 🖖🏼
I have a hard to define love for the Ambassador class ever since it showed up in Yesterday's Enterprise. I guess because it's such a clear link between the TOS and TNG era. Its more modern and stronger than the Constitution Enterprise while simultaneously looking like an underpowered Galaxy class prototype. The designers can't be commended enough.
Agreed! I love the perfectly round saucer, but the stubby nacelles make it look underpowered (presumably it was not). The secondary hull takes some getting used to, but overall, I like it.
To answer your question at the end, yes, I would like to hear the story of the refit Narendra variat. Please keep making these stories, it doesnt matter about which ship class they are, all of them are so good to watch. I really like your interpretation that Starfleet makes its mistakes and isnt a perfect organisation, it makes them feel much more realistic. Please keep up the good work :)
I have four Ambassador class starship models in my collection. The Canberra, The Patrick Henry, The Simon Bolivar, and the Simon Fraser. I wrote stories for each and every one of them. I like like your stories as well. Keep em coming.
I love the aesthetic of this ship. It's a believable step from Excelsior to Galaxy, but it just looks good. Always disappointed we never got a series or movies with this ship. One of my all time fav starship designs.
Such a beautiful ship. If I could have my choice to captain any Federation ship, from any time, this would be my choice. I would love to see a series set in this period with this as the hero ship.
I always loved this design for some reason ever since seeing it in the TNG Technical Manual. I wish DS9 had used these in some of the Dominion War battles.
Indeed....can you imagine two Ambassador class starships escorting a Galaxy class as it goes into battle and the Vorta commanding officer remarking "That Starfleet formation is terrifying!"
Just wonderfully put together. Yes, I would very much like to hear more about the Narendra III incident. Thank you very much! I hope you have a wonderful one!
I actually remember the game Starship creator making the class have more computer issues since you could add a diotromic core with a Multitronic coprocesser to the ship.
Narendra story please! I love that one , since it follows the original sketch so perfectly. Its too bad they rushed the design into the show and didn't flesh it out like sto did, its a superior design.
They had a time crunch for getting the new model ready for Yesterday's Enterprise and Proberts concept had too many curves making it more complex. The connie style secondary hull was done because it was faster to build.
I know I'm late on this. However you did a great job and I really like the Enterprise-C. Although I prefer the original Andrew Probert design and would have preferred that as the official Enterprise-C design. Yet at the same time I do like what we got on screen since it looks like a hybrid between a Galaxy and Excelsior class ships.
It sound like Ambassador have a big potencial. If Exelcior could be upgraded to Lacota class (which as we know stop Defiant class ship). Then Ambassador refit could be even more powerfull. Yes, please do episode about Narendra class (refit?).
Yay, finally! 😊 And thanks as always for your work. It's one of the few entertaining and effective distractions from some tough and stressful stuff. They are little escapes that I very much look forward to and enjoy.
Love your videos man! It would be really awesome if you might consider a video for the Ambassador class USS Excalibur.. One of my favorite hero ships from the extended universe.. fun idea here, what what if something epic & heroic & legendary happened to the Galaxy class Excalibur-A during the recent Picard final episodes?? Like they figured they could switch back to analog somehow and did some serious damage to the aid of Starfleet, but ultimately had to be decommissioned after the battle, and the next USS Excalibur-B was a new Ross class variant!?!? 😏😱🤯😍
To be fair... it's like looking at how cell phones evolved over time. I guess that makes the Ambassador like a flip phone and the Sovereign like the modern smartphone.
Of the two Galaxy and Ambassador, I think Ambassador is the better looking. Of course I while I grew to love the Enterprise D I thought it looked like flying phlegm. Thankfully the sovereign class starship is great looking 👌
1:45 that is an amazing shot, very reminiscent of In a Mirror Darkly, but for thr 25th century. How you got those beauty shots beats me. The old duotronic system went the way of the dinosaurs to be replaced by isolinear systems, and that didnt last long before the integration of bio-neural gel packs, or a combination of both of those like Voyager had and I am going to assume the Enterprise E as well and Sovereign class ships. Man, the beauty shots of the Galaxy class were wonderful, I wish there were some but with the ships named USS Dauntless NCC 71879 from Bridge commander, also beta canon I believe, lol 5:08 I think the uniform looks awful without the under jumper for the neck, it would make sense to have seen the without in th emovies and then progress with the jumper under the over coat, not a sort of opposite, but then again, I am no uniform designer, but if they had been under my command they would have been demoted for such poor uniform choice, doing a complete reversal on a grander looking uniform. 4 Romulan old Romulan warbirds, taking out the Federation flagship, must be a theme, as the Enteprise D would be lost thanks to some cunning and a 20 year old Bird of Prey, makes you laugh really, at how easily the C and D were taken out. Wow, that head of the Federation, must have done well as a politician, twisting information for a coverup with Starfleet, nice to see politics wont have changed 300 years later from our time, ha ha. What I truly find interesting is the Enterprise C was the first flagship to be commanded by a female, and though the ship's legacy is one for the history books, it seems it may be a long ways off until the fagship is commanded by a female, which I think is a shame. (No, that isnt meant to sound anything at all sexist, just a basic observation, even in STO the Enterprise F is commanded by a male) You are going to have to come up with your own starship 8 Ball, good sir, I am intrigued as to a Star Trek version of one of those... And yes, I would liek to hear about the refit Nerendera version of this class.
When it comes to uniforms, function matters more than form (unless you're talking about dress uniforms, in which case form IS the function). And while I agree with you that the variant with the jumper under the coat looks better, it also looks a lot warmer. Like the winter version of the uniform. You wouldn't want to wear that in warm environment, no matter how good it looks. You would want to ditch the jumper in order to be comfortable. That's another function aspect: A uniform that can be adapted is more functional than one that cannot. Now: The ambient temperature on a starship (particularly a Federation starship) will always have to a compromise to accomodate the people and species serving on it, keeping it as comfortable as possible for most without rendering the ship inhabitable for anyone. Requiring most of the crew to wear a jumper so they don't get chilly to prevent others from lethal overheating would be such a compromise. So: Perhaps the uniform didn't actually change in between NCC-1701-A and NCC-1701-C, maybe the crew composition was different and as a result Captain Garret chose a higher ambient temperature on her ship than Kirk did on his.
I remember seeing an episode showing inside Picard's Capt. quarters. There was a wall with a glass show case, that had gold colored scale models of starships in it. Has anyone studies these to see if there are any unknown starship designs shown in the display case? It was in Star Trek First Contact.
I like the Ambassador class a bit more than I like the Galaxy Class. Ambassador class feels like a real successor to the Excelsior, a logical next step in design - big, powerful, and sturdy, but also elegant at the same time. It looked like it should have been the new workhorse of the fleet, and I would have liked to see it on TNG instead of the Galaxy class. Galaxy always seemed a little awkward to me - too big, too fancy, too fragile.
fun fact: Tasha yar created the romulan war bird d'deridex class, when the alternate yar was sent back with the enterprise c she already knew about the war birds used called the v'emlak class witch were quickly retired do to flaws in its design but after she was captured and interrigated she would give up the development of the galaxy class witch made the romulans build the d'deridex class based on the v'emlak class witch in itself was a test bed for some new tech including the singularity core hinting why romulan tech and ship design had a sudden change in tng from the tos era. not cannon but does make a good explanation
I really like the visual design of the Ambassedor class. It looks far more like an evolution from the original series / motion picture designs rather than the 'city with thrusters' design of the Enterprise D which just seems dumb to me. After all, who would possibly think it's a good idea to put children on a ship who's mission is that of defense and exploration - both of which are high risk endevours.
I'm curious how much of this, and other beta canon videos, is from actual beta canon sources (books, comics, games, etc) and how much is original material or 'head canon' created to explain things. Probably not worth the effort, but perhaps a list of, or pop up text, citing sources as they come up in the video or something?
Question for the experts: Was the Ambassador class originally a concept design for the Galaxy IRL? And that when the script called for the Enterprise-C to show up they went back and dusted off an old concept. I find knowing stuff like this helps explain designs just as much as any canon info.
It was actually always intended to be it's own class. Probert planned for all the guest ships in TNG to be Ambassador Class ships the concept art version being meant to be a logical missing link between the Excelsior and the Galaxy class. Real world budget issues caused them to not make the model and just use the movie models.
Love love love, though I heard that the B was lost with all hands due to a shipboard sickness and found adrift in space years later? Never the less I do like ALL your episodes TriAngulum "one of the few highlights of the day" and really think that you should become a story writer for STO that definitely needs more in depth stories. Yesterday's Enterprise still remains my second favorite episode of Star Trek only because we got to see the Enterprise C. With such a fantastic step up that combines all the parts that made the former Enterprise's amazing, you can definitely see how it was the Galaxy and the Enterprise D's predecessor. Well done, can't wait to see what do next.
The beauty of Beta Canon, and the reason it's Beta Canon and meaningless, is the fact that there are MANY and varied contradictory versions of things such as the fate of the Ent B... And thus I get to choose which I believe makes the most sense and work with it :)
@@TriAngulumStudiosAudioComics The good thing about Beta canon:There is something for everyone The bad Thing...there is way too much from God..i mean Shattner

Well the problem could have been solved by putting one computer core in the saucer section and one computer core and starboard section I think I said that right not sure or secondary or whatever you want to call it but anyways you could have put two computer cores on shit and put remote stations on the bridge to help control the other computer core and do things in fact it would have been a very handy situation not one computer core offline and you can get all the main systems or what systems you need on the other one immediately and get the hell out of there
My only question is where does the Yamaguchi subclass fit into this mess? The Yamaguchi's hull sported several changes and improvements over the regular Ambassador-class starship. The bussard collectors received caps on top and below. The nacelle pylons were shortened. The saucer section was planted further back on the neck. Some models included an additional shuttlebay below the aft shuttlebay. (ST reference: The Star Trek Encyclopedia 1994) (Beta Cannon Reference STO missions: "Temporal Ambassador", "Welcome to Earth Spacedock") In the early 25th century, the Ambassador-class starship was available in three variants: support cruiser, retrofit and fleet retrofit. Differences among the subclasses were equipment, hull durability and power levels. Basic Ambassadors were cruisers commanded by officers with the rank of commander or higher. Retrofits were available to Starfleet officers with the rank of admiral. The fleet variant required support by a Federation fleet to be obtained. Only the fleet retrofit included the Yamaguchi subclass. The components saucer, hull, neck, pylons and nacelles were interchangeable between Ambassador- and Yamaguchi-class starships. (STO - Klingon War mission: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock") With the launch of the Narendra-class support cruiser in 2410, the number of available interchangeable components increased to include the new ship class. (STO - Victory Is Life mission: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")...
I never liked the look of the The Ambassador Class. I get that they wanted to piece together the look of old with an eventual move to a galaxy class style ship, but this design just never did it for me.
The beauty of Beta Canon, and the reason it's Beta Canon and meaningless, is the fact that there are MANY and varied contradictory versions of things such as the fate of the Ent B... And thus I get to choose which I believe makes the most sense and work with it :)
I always thought that the from an appearance standpoint, the Ambassador class was beautiful. 2nd to the constitution refit and should have been the direct successor especially with its appearance in TNG. The early design looked more like Excelsior meets galaxy and no where near as sleek. I never liked the Excelsior class design, way too blocky and disproportionate. Too bad the design was hampered by poor computer systems, which is why it never performed much better than its predecessor except for speed.
I always thought it would be kind of cool to find out the Ambassador class was in fact a battleship and then after peace with the Klingons they had to sweep it under the rug or risk insulting the Klingons and starting hostilities all over again
@@TriAngulumStudiosAudioComics sorry didn't mean to backseat author and I agree that it was a failure is interesting and explains why there aren't any left even though you still see a Miranda or an Excelsior class I just think that there's a precedent in your previous stories such as the Dreadnought class

@@TriAngulumStudiosAudioComics Don't they usually test an engine or individual components in existing vessels before going to full production? Don't they test individual components in a laboratory and/or include members of the design team on any such prototypes?
I work in electronics production, and I find the idea to iron everything out before going to full production - what's the polite way to say it - cute. It doesn't work because new problems and issues have a way of just popping up out of nowhere. And when there are deadlines to meet, you can't halt production until these issues are solved, you have to keep going while the issue is being worked on, hoping the issue gets solved and the solution can be implemented on the finished product. In my line of work this approach works usually works out, but if it doesn't, shit really hits the fan - and it seems that's what happened to Starfleet with the Ambassador class.
tbh to me the whole thing with the federation president was a step too far, and having them active in 2340 seems to late considering the beta canon like the list era book well of souls. That is btw an actual criticism, you shouldn't state you want to work with beta canon and then ignore the lost era books. Anyway, thanks for the video, keep up the good work.

I never liked the look of the The Ambassador Class. I get that they wanted to piece together the look of old with an eventual move to a galaxy class style ship, but this design just never did it for me.
Ohhh give me a c series
I thought the Enterprise B was lost with all hands?
You should make the bata cannon a little bit longer
What do you mean?
I always thought it would be kind of cool to find out the Ambassador class was in fact a battleship and then after peace with the Klingons they had to sweep it under the rug or risk insulting the Klingons and starting hostilities all over again
I actually think it being a big failure is more realistic and interesting!
@@TriAngulumStudiosAudioComics sorry didn't mean to backseat author and I agree that it was a failure is interesting and explains why there aren't any left even though you still see a Miranda or an Excelsior class I just think that there's a precedent in your previous stories such as the Dreadnought class
don't you love cover ups. 1 something thousandth like
Is already connected a video about the same shift but it's deleted everyone version talk about how their history to build the new design legendary ship
This was very well done, except for the part about the Enterprise-B. I thought there was more Beta Canon there about Sulu's daughter becoming captain of that ship?

As I have said I love your stories but on this one I need to know how much of this story is cannon; like could give me a rough Percentage?
I only ask because this story is a huge huge contemroversy and seems like this time frame may be ripe for a future shows/movies
About 80- 90 percent
@@TriAngulumStudiosAudioComics wow, very very interestonmg
I, again, don't understand how they seemingly go to full production before ironing everything out.
You should, as it happens all the time here in Real Life!
@@TriAngulumStudiosAudioComics Don't they usually test an engine or individual components in existing vessels before going to full production? Don't they test individual components in a laboratory and/or include members of the design team on any such prototypes?
Nope, it happens all the time, especially with Airplanes and Helicopters for some reason!
