    RRLP is the right step. It should be introduced across Brampton and Mississauga. These Indian owned investment properties have made a mess all across Brampton. They rent them out to 10-15 people and never to check the property unless something major happens. If a landlord does regular check on their property, things can be much better. And these investments properties ruin the image of the whole street and cause major inconvenience to the other home owners on the street.

    Main reasons for 'pareshaani' of landlords. First they are not LAND LORDS; they just own some substandard rental properties, which does not give anyone a title of Landlord. Punjabis incorrectly associate being a Slumlord with being a Landlord. Now reasons for their worries: 1. If a person obtains mortgage by showing fake income or assets or based on temporary hike in income, then that person in reality was not eligible for that mortgage. No wonder it hurts when banks want the mortgage payment. 2. If one expects the mortgage will be covered by renting a single family home to multiple tenants, then this greed has consequences. 3. If one games the system by getting excessive mortgage or multiple properties that you should not have based on financial capacity, then law of karma comes in play. This gaming will sooner or later result in getting tenants who are trying to game you. 4. There may be landlords who are honest and get affected because if a significant part of the society becomes corrupt, even the honest people become unintended victims.

    In the USA when I rent my house we put all people in the lease including pets. Over 18 years required background check, so we don’t have any issues here. All landlords in Canada should sign a lease and when inspections come and see more people then issue fines to those people are not in the lease.

    I came in 2017 in brampton in 12 conover court and shared house with over 20plus people. I moved out after 4 months but i saw bedbugs first time in my lifw in that house. After 5 months i heard there was a fire incident in that house which is quite obvious.

Its same like opening a mill and you want to charge really high amount to cover the cost in just one year. You need to set the prices based on different factors. These folks have no knowledge about business models. And now interest rates went up and get into deep troubles want to rip off peoples as much as they can.

      Why dont you buy your own house then or rent out a hotel. My main reason was to say that its owners house and owner rules to set the rent price based on the lease. If you canf afford then don't rent, check other house or goto 5 star hotel.

    People or the so called landlords who are demanding more rent must know that the increase in property tax or any other housing related expenses is your personal problem and your personal responsibility. Tenants have nothing to do with that because if the tenant could have beared the increasing expenses of your house…then they would have moved out of your property and would have bought their own houses.
    Hence, the so called landlords must know that the housing related expenses could increase anytime which they are supposed to pay from their own pockets since the tenants never promised any landlord that they will help hin afford the house because whoever rents the house does that only because renting is cheaper than owning a house, so don’t compare the rents with mortgages.
    Also, will anyone being a landlord would decrease the rent if the mortgage rate or property tax goes down. If no, then we have no right to increase the rent as per the growing mortgage payment or property tax.
    Buy only as much as you can afford without relying upon other person’s shoulders.

    This problem is because of inefficient rental law, tenants not abiding by the city law should get the fine and not the landlord and every rental contract should be approved by the city as the department is getting their share from it in term of revenue, so every contract must be approved by the city and then register at authority.
    Property owner who is approved by the city for rental after due authorization should not be bothered for act of tenant, like it’s in the criminal case landlord is not accountable for any criminal act tenant, how come landlord be liable for civic disobedience on tenant actions.

    both Tenant and Landlord are in trouble....City step is appreciable but there should not be big licence fee otherwise it look like City is making money from Landlord and Tenant mess.....Tenant should also understand that end of the day they are humans and should live like humans,as uncleanness around them is also not good for their health...Landlord should also hear Tenant problem, not immediately but do resolve Tenant worries...if both Tenant and Landlord work together then their is no issue of any contradiction

    Why these people keep talking about property taxes increases and mortgage rates ? last MPAC assessment was done based on 2016 value (while enjoying the equity increases) and then they took variable mortgage (not fixed) for investment property (intention of renting out), which will have fixed rent/ income (risk they took and now crying)... There focus should be on quality of tenant issues and about those with illegal units, but they coming at city for this initiative, which shows they themselves have bad intention...

    300 to 500 rent for a person is good. yes some students or those who on work permit are live in 8 to 12 member group in basement or in a house yes this is a issue. but this second caller show their hunger. this type of people are the main problem. students have no option what they can do they just try to manage ourselve without job. or those who have job most of them not get more than on minmum wage. those who currently studying they earn 1100 to 1200 and this motherf....er say rent should we 1000.

      When u will buy your own house you will know. $200 ta utilities hi aa jandia per person. Make basement legal and increase the rent to $900/ person tahi set auna tenants ne. Jehri complaints krde aa . If you dont like basement dont move. There are many more good places to live. Pay krna aa $300 service chahidi aa 5 star hotel waliya

      Caller is totally right. Increase the rent due to the increased cost of legalization . Kyi tenants ne v bhot att chukki aa rehna aa $300 ch but service chahidi aa 5 star hotel waliya. I will say don't rent if you dont like.

      Cleaning and garbage disaposal is the duty of the tenant and overall house maintenance is duty of landlord.
