- The Battle of Broxton Bridge took place February 2, 1865. It was part of General Sherman’s movement from Savannah, GA to Columbia, SC. In order to take Columbia, he had to split his forces up to confuse the Confederates so they wouldn’t know where the main target of attack was going to be. Some of his forces had to move through the swamps and low country of South Carolina in order to move west. Many skirmishes ensued in the swampy forests. The most well known battle in the area is the Battle for River’s Bridge, which is currently a State Park. Beauforts Bridge and Broxton Bridge were close by and also guarded by Confederates. The Union forces were able to push back the Confederates and eventually reach Columbia, SC.
This video is specifically battle footage from the reenactment. The reenactment is quite an intense experience, never have I been to a reenactment like this.
Living History shared from the Battle of Broxton Bridge reenactment event 3/2/2024. This event is held annually in Bamberg County, SC at the Broxton Bridge Plantation Campgrounds.

I loved going to watch the renactments as a kid! I was always excited to see Mr. Chesser and all the other good folks having a blast recreating the most immersive experience.
