- Why did Jesus curse the fig tree? The Bible records in the gospel of Matthew and the gospel of Mark that while traveling from Bethany with His disciples, Jesus, being hungry, spots a fig tree in the distance. When He approaches the fig tree He notices that the tree has leaves, but no figs--no fruit! In response, Jesus curses the fig tree and immediately, it withers. What does this fig tree represent? What is the significance of the absence of fruit and Jesus' response? Is this a message to Israel? Journey with Dr. Randal Reese as he explains why Jesus curses the fig tree.

"18 Now in the morning as he returned into the city, he hungered. 19 And when he saw a fig tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only, and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever. And presently the fig tree withered away. 20 And when the disciples saw it, they marvelled, saying, How soon is the fig tree withered away! 21 Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done. 22 And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive."
Mark 11:12-14
"12 And on the morrow, when they were come from Bethany, he was hungry: 13 And seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, he came, if haply he might find any thing thereon: and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for the time of figs was not yet. 14 And Jesus answered and said unto it, No man eat fruit of thee hereafter for ever. And his disciples heard it."

Please keep me and my children in your prayers, we are facing homelessness. I’m so ashamed and embarrassed over my situation. I lost my job as a social worker because I declined the vaccine. I declined due to my pre existing health condition (Lupus) and heart disease. I’m on a bunch of medications already including blood thinners. I’m a single mother both my sons are autistic, and non verbal. I feel overwhelmed at times my husband passed away three years ago it’s so hard I am all alone no family nor friends. But it’s my faith in God that will carry me through this hard time. God will make a way. I believe. ❤️
Thank you for sharing your situation with us. We are deeply saddened to hear of all that you are going through, but we also rejoice with you over your faith in God! He is the "God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction" (2 Cor. 1:3-5). He is the One who will see you through! As I was reading about the fig tree I asked the Holy Spirit to guide me with His knowledge and I said I do not understand yet I want to.
