Like, "Listen, I'll give all you smaller dragons a place to roost, but y'all ain't staying here for free. You're now all obligated to bring me food...or else. Got it?" So, this video was an interesting, unique take.
See my comments on Night Furies perhaps being some kind of black panthers. Outcast by the other Light Furies because he just cannot fit into their hunting groups (aka sticking out like a sore thumb), he is alone or at most in a "colt group" of other outcasts. Enter the Red Death, or any gangleader IRL, taking in all the outcasts, both sheltering and subduing them. Like is the case in human predators, the Red Death himself doesn't need much persuasion. It's so huge no "regular dragon herd" will kick them out, there is enough food from the leftovers of the Red Death's hunts, the rest is Stockholm Syndrome. The Red Death himself doesn't need to expend energy to hunt, and isn't in danger from the prey it needs. Thus, they can also evolve pheromones to subdue other dragons. Furies are legendary for their aim, so no smashing into "ground clouds" - even if Furies don't have echolocation, they sure as hell have the eyesight / hearing to pinpoint a sheep's position in three dimensions (including thickness). What you describe is how an adolescent becomes a fanatic. Very possible some other dragon had its "budding love interest" killed by humans, but not Toothless; he wouldn't have reacted so neutrally to Hickup otherwise, but killed him in blind fury (pun intended).
You know what would have been more interesting is if CloudJumper was like a mother figure to Toothless when he was a hatchling and when Toothless older CloudJumper suddenly left and Toothless didn't find out why until he saw her againP.S. I don't know if CloudJumper is a he or a she but oh well.😅
I actually know why the night furies that were enslaved by the red death died. In the first movie to describe a night fury he says; this thing NEVER STEALS FOOD, never shows itself, and never misses. The dragons need food to not be eaten by the red death. BING!
