Fifth option: Timing. The reason it took weeks for Hiccup in the first movie (then took seconds for the rest of them, and in the tv show) was all about timing and pacing. The show’s writers couldn’t afford to have it take weeks for continuity reasons. Though there is also a sixth option, that the dragons in the arena thought all that training was just a game, and the vikings were just playing with them.
And then there's the Skrill who literally searched the ends of the Earth just to settle the score with Hiccup and Toothless. I'd say these dragons are comparable to Elephants in terms of intelligence. At least most of them are. Some, like the Flightmare (who only appeared in one episode why didn't it come back in RTTE damnit) are definitely less intelligent as the others since it was behaving much more like a real animal. It was only at Berk because it was feeding on glowing plankton that gave it it's glow and the ability to shot a blue substance that freezes it's targets. It even attacked Astrid with this ability when she challenged it to a fight. Yeah
I see dragons in HTTYD as 2 possibilities. One, they're like griffins(Harry Potter)- give me respect and food and I will aid you. Two, they're much closer held to the books than we think. The only difference I see in the movies from the books despite necessary changes, the behavior is the same and they are only unable to verbally speak. In the books, commands are understood and Hiccup learns how to speak fluently with the dragons. In the movies, since it was probably TOO cartoon-y to have the dragons chatting back and added the wild aspect, I think they left out only the ability to talk. Or, it's a mixture of the two. The dragons do understand them, but they lack the physical ability to talk, and so they "speak" through the gift of respect and life-giving food. Personally, seeing aspects of the shouting of commands added in HTTYD 2 with Drago's style(screaming), I think the most likely reason they are so "tamable" is because they DO understand the humans, but they just aren't able to articulate back, so they use their facial expressions as best they can.
They’re animals. They’re instinctive creatures but they’re able to learn from the humans, just as the humans can learn from them. You can see in the series that they are clearly capable of higher understanding, and if I’m honest, I believe that dragons see humans as pack mates. For the most part, dragons portrayed as part of a pack, will obey their alpha, and after Hiccup and Toothless defeated their old alpha, Toothless likely became the new one. He saw humans as pack, so the other dragons understood “this is pack, we protect and provide for them, and they protect and provide for us”. As for why the dragons act like pets, they seem to be going through adolescence as the humans are (at least the main dragons). Yes, one had a litter (if I recall right) but girls can get pregnant when they hit a “certain point”, and Toothless at the very least is about Hiccup’s age, given that he got his “adult scales” in the second movie, and the third one is his attempts to find a mate (I haven’t seen it, unsure if it’s out there yet). He’s a kid, and he acts like it. Just like the main characters, he’s playful, silly, and clumsy, just finding his way. For the most part, adults are a lot harder - it seems - to tame than the young ones, but even they understand that the humans mean them no harm and settle down at some point. Idk, that’s just my thoughts, and I hope they make sense XDX
You can definitely tell the bond between Hiccup and Toothless is stronger because literally without Hiccup,Toothless is in trouble as you see when Hiccup's mom yanks Hiccup off of Toothless, so they literally rely on each other unlike the other riders just have a saddle for their dragon. Toothless is literally controlled by Hiccup just like after Hiccup loses his foot and has to use the prosthetic, Toothless becomes an extension and support for Hiccup. So their bond is literally and figuratively going to be stronger than the other dragons and their riders. Hiccup and Toothless literally need each other so that would make their bond stronger and Toothless forced Hiccup to gain his trust.
@@Dinomatrix21 That was so sweet. Toothless knew he could be free then, but insisted on using the tale needing Hiccup to control it. Later in Httyd 3, Hiccup makes another one. This time, Toothless does use it. Ofcourse he needs to when living in the Hidden World
Hiccup has to earn Toothless's trust. Just like you would with an animal or human. I'm sure the dragons are like humans and definitely animals where they can tell if you are a good person or not and choose to be friends or not. Hiccup explains human and dragons bond throughout the 2nd movie and you see it. Just like when his mom's dragon Cloud jumper broke into the house and was fascinated by Hiccup even though he was a baby and then his mom and the dragon connected to the extent Cloud jumper took off with Berka cause he saw how dangerous Stoick was.
You can see the personality of each dragon for each rider. Just like Hiccup and Toothless seem to be as one. I can imagine if you could hear the zipplebacks thoughts it's probably the same as the twins. How they are just fighting for control even though they are 2 dragons sharing one body. Just like with humans and animals in real life they take on the personality and in some cases appearances of each other. You can just see how Toothless is Hiccup's equal. When you see the twins on the Barf and Belch they are vocalizing it's thoughts. It was hilarious when the kids go to rescue Toothless and the adults from the queen dragon and after Hiccup instructs them to do something they are arguing over who is better I can imagine that's exactly how the 2 dragons feel and act towards each other even though they work together equally. So I see the dragons as an extension of the person's personality. You can see how they are an extension of each other in the dragon races and throughout the movies. Even Drago's alpha looks like Drago and has his personality to an extent. After Toothless frees the dragons of the alpha Hiccup explains the bond between the dragons and humans. I just see that each dragon is the extension of their rider. They had to gain each other's trust as Hiccup explains throughout the 2nd movie and it's demonstrated. Toothless could have vaporized Hiccup for having captured him as soon as he freed him but he spared him like Hiccup spared him. Hiccup and Berka explain that when they looked into Toothless and Cloud Jumpers eyes they saw themselves, that they have the heart of a dragon that's why Toothless and Cloud Jumper CHOSE them.
I agree... these dragons in HTTYD, despite being a kid's show, are sort of tame to humans because they see the advantages and humility of the humans. I read somewhere that elephants have a similar reaction to humans as how humans react to puppies. Some elephants think we're cute, and maybe it's the same thing with dragons. Another possibility is the dragons might've been humans once like how in matpat's game theory on pokemon being humans before. If the dragons react to every single nuance of their conversations it'd make sense if prior experience with contextual body language helps them react if it isn't just the character's perspective.
I love how Toothless is so different then the other dragons he doesn't hunt for another dragon like the others, he doesn't have a shot limit and can't be disoriented by noise like the others and has more flexibility and he can camouflage into dark. Even outwits the baby dragon fighting over the scrap of fish with a plasma blast to the mouth.Toothless is able to pull that flip over while firing a shot into the queen dragons mouth as they are diving towards the ground even with his tail part Hiccup made for him on fire, with Hiccup and the harness on him and thats one hell of a move to pull off. None of the other dragons could do that, and I love that Toothless shoots plasma blasts instead of just fire. The other dragons definitely couldn't blast their way out of a block of ice and glow because of his anger. The others can be knocked out with loud noise, have shot limits and their maneuverability isn't the best. That's why I love Toothless. I haven't seen the 3rd movie yet so I can't say on the Lightfury just what I have seen from the ads. I heard that Toothless was designed like a fighter jet not sure though. His power dive noise is definitely scary. And Hiccup was able to talk Toothless back from the Alpha's control while it took Toothless blasting the alpha to release the other dragons.
@@syrup8041 I'm not sure, I just know that when a night fury hasn't reached alpha mode, or atleast Toothless, they have a limit of 6. I'd just do some research and such lol
Personally, I think the answer is a combination of the first 2 theories. This is because they probably know that they stand a better chance of surviving when they're with certain humans, while being fascinated with their world at the same time.
Welp here's part 2 for ya guys, sorry for the long wait.... After the meeting was over, I finally found my courage to ask Dr.wu what was the point of this hybrid, when I did, he replied that the hybrid is more of a weapon than an attraction, I was shocked when he said that, he then asked is there something wrong with that, I nervously replied with no, after our little conversation he went to his cabinet, I didn't know what to think, a dinosaur as a weapon? This didn't seem right, but this could probably be a good thing since it could power up our military, so I snapped out of it and went to the cafeteria for my break. After an hour or so I was about to go back to work when all of a sudden an alarm went on, I didn't know what was going on, I found my friend Michael that was going to the emergency exit, I asked him what was going on, he said that the Spinotahraptor has somehow managed to escape it paddock, he didn't knew how, but he didn't want to risk his life to find out, so we both ran to the closest emergency exit, when we've got there, we heard something that will forever be stuck in my mind, it was the screams of the workers being thorn apart by the creature, that it later devoured, after a few minutes, the screams stopped, it must have killed all of them, we were about to leave when suddenly we heard the creature sniffing something, it then growled at what seemed to be the door that we were inside of, it knew we were hiding from it, we backed away from the door when the creature suddenly burst it's head through the door trying to devoure us like it's previous victims, thankfully it was too big to fit through the destroyed door, when it realized that it backed away and retreated to the woods, we then went to find another exit in case if the creature came back, after like 30 minutes we found the door that seemed to lead to the jurassic world control room. End of part 2
Great vid, Alteori. Maybe you could do a theory on Why are Night Furies declared the most dangerous dragons on Berk. And why they are called the Unholy Offspring Of Lightening and Death itself Some time.
I think it's the first one that it's more like relationship between man and dog and that they are referring to the relationship between man and dog and how say dog's are man best friend but in this case it's dragons are man best friend (^^)
the reason that they are so easy to tame now is because the last night fury (at the time) was tamed, night furies are alphas because they are so fast and powerful compared to the other ones, accept for the class 10's, but when toothless was tamed and kept alive, the other dragons realized that humans aren't all bad.
Because these dragons are smart they see a mutual or symbiotic relationship with the humans.humans give shelter and food to them and they fly humans around so yeah.
1st one: Is 100% True to the Source Material last one: Is 100% True to the DreamWorks "Vision" . There's a dragon who play's fetch and acts like a dog in the books and he's the single dumbest sentient dragon in the whole book series. So pretty much in the last movie you have a dragon who thinks he's dog who's king of all dragons! Apposed to Book Series Furious who's a 100x bigger, scarier and more regal than the likes of Smaug.) "Now that's a King!"
I think you made some valid points, but as you can see in the movies and shows, the most intelligent species are rarely tamed and when they are, it’s not much more mutual, like between Hiccup and toothless.
I think the relationship between the dragons and their riders are the relationship between a horse and it's rider. The horse learns to be loyal and to apriciate it's rider.
I honestly don't find the dragons as interesting or threatening anymore, since all it takes to beat them is lightly touching them on the nose. I think it takes away the dynamic of a rider having to earn his dragon's trust over time.
I don't know but the most kid friendly and relatable that I think would probably be the third one that a human or a dragon ancestor Tain dragons or was a very tame dragon and that was passed down I think that considering the amount of time that Vikings and other human beings have been around in the movies it would make sense so yeah that actually does make sense for me thank you
No, a dragon would probably want to play something a bit more sophisticated, perhaps fetch, but perhaps also a puzzle game, or even chess. They’re at least as smart as parrots or corvids, if not sapient and smart as a human being.
I feel like it's a fusion of the first one and the second one because as we can see in the first movie toothless only really stays with hiccup because he knows that he can supply food and as we can see later in the movies and shows toothless isn't just doing it for the food he actually enjoys being around hiccups and playing with them and just doing things with him and as we can see with other writers they're dragons will risk their lives just to save them so yeah I feel like it at first they will just do it for survival but after a period of time they will learn to actually like and love you
This drove me nuts in the TV show. In the first film, it seemed like Hiccup had to earn his moment where he touched Toothless on the nose. Now it's been turned into an automatic taming move that works on nearly every single dragon, regardless of upbringing or ferocity. It's honestly cringe-with now.
I think the dragons are more intelligent than most animals and my be able to understand that humans can be very dangerous and adapt to new challenges or threats they come across and might believe that they'll get more benefit form helping humans survive than they would ignoring or stealing livestock from them.
There is of course another possibility: that the dragons aren't the "tamed pets;" the humans are. From the dragons' point of view, they might be thinking, "Geez, if it's this easy to get these small creatures to stop attacking & killing us with their weapons, why didn't we do this years ago?" (Plus, as we've seen on the TV series, humans *are* useful creatures to have around when you, for example, have a toothache...)
I feel the answer to this video is actually a little more than just a single answer. I feel that a dragon's intelligence varies from species to species. An "Alpha" class dragon like a Fury or a Behemoth have extremely high intelligence, maybe even more than humans and are capable of adapting and learning very quickly to changing environments and situations from being hunter to being the hunter, enemies to making alliances and friends, dominating the lower classes of dragons and subjugating them, etc. I feel the lowest IQ of a dragon species is probably as low as that of a squirrel where it operates almost entirely off instinct and the urge to breed, eat, survive, and please the alpha and the highest is as mentioned above, Alpha class dragon's with equal to or higher than human IQ.
in the movie, they introduce the new characters like the alpha of all dragons, Dreco blood fist, exedra. But all of a sudden in the series they show the characters now out of all of the chances they choose now to put them in, but why? And will they put the light furry in the series?? If you what to know as well comment and leave a like
Intelligence is hard topic. Dragons might be like cats which are fairly intelligent and straight up walked up to humans and humans adopted them. They might also be like sharks who don't really attack humans and swim up to divers because of curiosity. There's also possibility that they're like gorillas and won't attack create that they think is threat to them
*Most* people in the fandom would say the fury’s (wich is understandable cuz my favourite are the night lights) but if I had to say my favourite dragon (BESIDE THE FURYS) it would be the Skrill
*Dragon appears* *people scared* Person: its alright ive seen how to train your dragon were in no danger! *approaches dragon* Hey there bud how ya d- *gets eaten*
They seem pretty docile and tamed seeing other dragons treated well by humans or because toothless is an alpha so their immediate response is that they shouldn’t be so aggressive towards hiccup and his crew
There's too much on screen evidence of them understanding language to discount (not to mention the times toothless laughs at social situations most animals would be oblivious to), even if you accept that's for the viewers benefit. I'd say they're smarter than even orangutans, and probably have intelligence approaching that of human toddlers. As to them being easy to tame, it likely just boils down to them just not being belligerent animals. The gorilla is the most powerful primate, and yet simply because it's powerful doesnt mean it will use that power without reason. Sure if you get too close to it's offspring or intrude in it's territory it may attack, but if you just encounter one wandering about it's not likely to attack without provocation. The same goes for the elephant. Of course some animals like dolphins and orcas seem to religiously avoid conflict with humans, and given their intelligence, this might be a case of knowing we're too dangerous to be worth pissing off. Still, even in cases of animals who are smart enough to fear humans(which I suspect is the case with HTTYD dragons, though there is of course a much smaller power gap between human and beast in that world than ours), like elephants and whales, that doesnt mean genuine bonds between humans and these animals cant form. As to why dragons play with humans? Well intelligence isnt the be all and end all of behaviour. I successful, educated 40 year old man may still enjoy the shit out of videogames and RC toys more than he arguably should. Lets face it, playing with the kids is often an excuse for many adults to play themselves, because why not. In one ep of RttE Hiccup throws a ball of paper over his shoulder and Toothless chases it, batting it around like a cat. He wasnt doing that for Hiccup's benefit, as he wasn't paying attention. Clearly he just wanted to play. In short, I dont think the dragon's playfulness or desire to interact with humans is as much an indication of intelligence as it is personality.
This probably another thing they give them Dragon nip Bing bam boom Dragon it like drugs so give that your dragon they go cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs so yeah that's everything
but actually yeah you have right. Not really good dragons stay with humans because other humans would hear that news like moneybagers and they would seek every place on earth to find them hunt them down both aslong it exist in the Earth especially in that modern age. For humans dragons could be more useful if they see how easy could be to tame them.
Fifth option: Timing. The reason it took weeks for Hiccup in the first movie (then took seconds for the rest of them, and in the tv show) was all about timing and pacing. The show’s writers couldn’t afford to have it take weeks for continuity reasons. Exactly what many people say about their dogs.
You want a dragon don't u alteori?
If she ever gets one she will turn into an apollion class SCP
@@kingsolomon673 yes.
A lot of the Dragons in this franchise won't put up with irritating humans if they don't have too...and trust me, I don't blame.
I think it's the first one that it's more like relationship between man and dog and that they are referring to the relationship between man and dog and how say dog's are man best friend but in this case it's dragons are man best friend (^^)
Very early this time... so surprising too. I didn't even get a notification for it 😂
the reason that they are so easy to tame now is because the last night fury (at the time) was tamed, night furies are alphas because they are so fast and powerful compared to the other ones, accept for the class 10's, but when toothless was tamed and kept alive, the other dragons realized that humans aren't all bad.
Personally I think Alteori is just really jealous.
If you tried to play with Smaug ,I hope you like being his Sunday roast
Do the carnos point of view.
Toothless is just a cat in disguise
Because these dragons are smart they see a mutual or symbiotic relationship with the humans.humans give shelter and food to them and they fly humans around so yeah.
1st one: Is 100% True to the Source Material
last one: Is 100% True to the DreamWorks "Vision" .
There's a dragon who play's fetch and acts like a dog in the books and
he's the single dumbest sentient dragon in the whole book series.
So pretty much in the last movie you have a dragon who thinks he's dog
who's king of all dragons!
Apposed to Book Series Furious who's a 100x bigger, scarier and more regal
than the likes of Smaug.)
"Now that's a King!"
Rexy vs thanator
I somehow made a part 2 now, what a surprise, also my favourite dragon is the skrill
DON'T GET *ANGRY*
I think you made some valid points, but as you can see in the movies and shows, the most intelligent species are rarely tamed and when they are, it’s not much more mutual, like between Hiccup and toothless.
I think the relationship between the dragons and their riders are the relationship between a horse and it's rider. The horse learns to be loyal and to apriciate it's rider.
Anna Norris *appreciate
Well I guess because dragons are like friends to begin with
I honestly don't find the dragons as interesting or threatening anymore, since all it takes to beat them is lightly touching them on the nose. I think it takes away the dynamic of a rider having to earn his dragon's trust over time.
Maybe the dragons are calm because it was after the death of the red death
They are like symbiotes
I don't know but the most kid friendly and relatable that I think would probably be the third one that a human or a dragon ancestor Tain dragons or was a very tame dragon and that was passed down I think that considering the amount of time that Vikings and other human beings have been around in the movies it would make sense so yeah that actually does make sense for me thank you
No, a dragon would probably want to play something a bit more sophisticated, perhaps fetch, but perhaps also a puzzle game, or even chess.
They’re at least as smart as parrots or corvids, if not sapient and smart as a human being.
Ok well alteori do is rexy and Dr wu connected both have survived in 3 movies so if Dr wu dies does rexy die so I think it's therory time comment pls
It's.....THEORY TIME
It's..... Go TIME.
It might just be as simple as giving personalities to the dragons based off of the real life animals they were based off of.
Black screaming death
Well think of dolphins, horses and wolves, it’s pretty standard for curious and social animals to form bonds
I think the dragons are more intelligent than most animals and my be able to understand that humans can be very dangerous and adapt to new challenges or threats they come across and might believe that they'll get more benefit form helping humans survive than they would ignoring or stealing livestock from them.
And I also loved this video too btw 😁
No hate or anything towards all these theories but can we keep in mind that this is a show for kids around the age of 9?
There is of course another possibility: that the dragons aren't the "tamed pets;" the humans are. From the dragons' point of view, they might be thinking, "Geez, if it's this easy to get these small creatures to stop attacking & killing us with their weapons, why didn't we do this years ago?" (Plus, as we've seen on the TV series, humans *are* useful creatures to have around when you, for example, have a toothache...)
Free food, strong shelter, protection 24/7
Can you do a Video told from the POV of Stoick the Vast, please? Oh, and did I mention that I love Stoick?

I like option 2 that, they r smart but just cute and kind like dogs Or most dogs any way
Honestly I made a fan fiction and option 3 dragons being bred to be kind to people is basically what happens in my story what do you think?
So its the same reason as how humans tamed dogs or cats huh? Good to know
in the movie, they introduce the new characters like the alpha of all dragons, Dreco blood fist, exedra. But all of a sudden in the series they show the characters now out of all of the chances they choose now to put them in, but why? And will they put the light furry in the series?? If you what to know as well comment and leave a like
Dragons use humans and than they protect the humans and listen to them to be protected and given food like we see in one of the episode from series
Intelligence is hard topic. Dragons might be like cats which are fairly intelligent and straight up walked up to humans and humans adopted them. They might also be like sharks who don't really attack humans and swim up to divers because of curiosity. There's also possibility that they're like gorillas and won't attack create that they think is threat to them
With the theory that says that there is an unspoken dragon law about not attaking humans is the same as orcas
well smaug would consider that a sheep telling a human to go fetch, since humans are not equal to dragons

Hey. Feed and shelter. Lead on.
I think I found a way to tame a death song, both the egg and adult... though that's just a theory, a game theory thanks for reading.
What's ur fav dragon alteori wich one would you like to tame?
My favorite dragon is the slithersong
Mine is the skrill
My favorite dragon is the singetail. I would tame a singetail.
Triple Stryke . My favorite
*Most* people in the fandom would say the fury’s (wich is understandable cuz my favourite are the night lights) but if I had to say my favourite dragon (BESIDE THE FURYS) it would be the Skrill
*Dragon appears* *people scared*
Person: its alright ive seen how to train your dragon were in no danger!
*approaches dragon*
Hey there bud how ya d-
*gets eaten*
They were supposed to resemble pets and animals, so the movies give us more meaning
Maybe they just meant emotional intelligence.
I'd say a combination of the first two.
They seem pretty docile and tamed seeing other dragons treated well by humans or because toothless is an alpha so their immediate response is that they shouldn’t be so aggressive towards hiccup and his crew
FINALLY THIS ISSUE IS ADDRESSED!
They want respect and care and trust.
so just a random question
any one else realize how different dragons look in movies instead of series
With some dragons (like toothless) you need to gain their trust. Whilst other dragons, i do not have the slightest clue
Wait like the wing maidens they helped baby dragons
Because they all have daddy issues
Pov of big one with moudun
Sorry but I have to disagree with the last one. Throught the show and movies, it is very clear that Toothless understands what Hiccup is saying.
The dragons in the movies, to me, seem like they are domesticated. Everything about them screams domesticated animals, not tame animals.
I think they put up with humans
I like crunchy spaghetti
Do horizon zero dawn next.
Dogs is the most logical answer
I think it not any if those I think the hand trick hypnosize the dragons
Because it's a Kids show. Finito.
Dragons are a Vikings Best Friend
My best friend is darkness
In short, I dont think the dragon's playfulness or desire to interact with humans is as much an indication of intelligence as it is personality.
you sir, are absolutely right, even if i am 1 year later to tell you that
This probably another thing they give them Dragon nip Bing bam boom Dragon it like drugs so give that your dragon they go cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs so yeah that's
everything
They were breed to be dossal and intelligent creatures
I think it’s the first two
but actually yeah you have right. Not really good dragons stay with humans because other humans would hear that news like moneybagers and they would seek every place on earth to find them hunt them down both aslong it exist in the Earth especially in that modern age. For humans dragons could be more useful if they see how easy could be to tame them.
