Alliaria petiolata is a Brassicacaea. Translation, garlic mustard is in the cabbage family. It contains volatile oils (hence the smell) and it's full of sinigrin (a glucoside). It's an anti inflammatory and can be put on eczema externally to soothe. Best of all, it self sows and can be found on most continents. Nature is freaking awesome.
Garlic mustard is an intense invasive species here in the Midwest, definitely am going to try to make tea with it! And I love spinach so its going to go in my bowl too :)
Love your presentation! Just a thought though about any plant in the brassica family and thyroid disease. It can interfere with iodine uptake. It's best to ingest it 8 hours after taking medication... or so I've read. I am not an M. D. Subscribed
I've watched this video twice now, thanks for making this dude! I tried the fresh leaves and they do taste just like garlic. It is strong, but I add one leaf to my meals with one mugwort leaf and a ton of lemon balm and cannabis sativa leaves (whenever my plants are in need of a pruning I just eat the leaves) . I use this in place of store bought lettuce. Basically anytime I'm cooking a meal, I'll venture out to my yard and pick a bunch of wild greens, I add them into my meals in place of lettuce or greens depending on what I'm cooking. This is a way cheaper and healthier swap for using lettuce or store bought spinach, etc. in meals. Seriously though thanks so much for making this video, you've given me the inspiration to pull the rest of my garlic mustard up and dry it out. and use all of it just like you did here. Don't worry guys, I won't pull it all out, I'll keep a little patch of it for a continual harvest of fresh leaves,
Love it. A lot of invasive plants origins are from countries where they are controlled because well they are tasty! Great energy, good vibes as well. Keep doing what you are doing!
I have garlic mustard growing all over my yard now I’m pretty upset I pulled most of it out to make space for my veggies. Could have dried it all out! Thank you for making this video it taught me so much !! I will be trying out everything!
Do I have to dry in a dehydrator? I don’t have one. I discovered this weed in my yard and I didn’t pull because it looked like my catmint and my wild strawberry. And it smells amazing on your hands.
surpassingly not. I for sure thought it would! turns out it gets the name because it smells like garlic when you mash it up and is part of the mustard family. I would say it tastes more like bitter spinach unless boiled to take the bitterness away. However some people claim it has a garlic like flavor. It's just not that strong. :)
I like to mix garlic mustard with nettle leaves to tone them down a little! I find they complement each other!

minus the fact it is incredibly invasive and has out competed and killed many beautiful native flower species in my area.
Im fermenting the stems and roots together and used the leaves to make a kimchi inspired ferment. Im excited to experiment!
Let us know how it came out!!

Excellent, ty! I saw a few other vids that didn't talk about the cooking methods.
Anyone thought about making a tincture from garlic mustard?
what are you doing on my land? 😂
Does any part of the plant taste like garlic? Like mustard?

Of course, like with any plant
