      Hi Ben,
      I did a review yesterday and mentioned the string replacement.
      Emerald came back to me with a short video, it's so simple, just stick a plastic golf tee in the hole to stop the ball end jumping out, or maybe even a match stick?
      If you look at my review (click on latest, it was only last night) they have replied with the video link.
      Hope that will put you back on the right path : )

    Played a friend's X20. Very impressive. Stays in tune really well. Sounds great... as good as if not better than a wood acoustic guitar. The neck action was almost as good as an electric guitar making tougher chords and bends pleasant. Yes, the contouring of the body made it feel really comfortable. Very nice product. I'll consider ordering one.

    There probably is no better format for reviews available on YT. The Emerald design and construction are excellent and I would congratulate the company on their product. I have watched the Emerald guitar factory tour which shows a unique business model and product range like no other guitar company I know of. The guitar demo'd here does sound however much more subtle and reserved at the lower end of the sound spectrum. Maybe the sound hole placement did not project well to the mike placement and appear bass reduced ( not so to the player as the bass was projected 'up' as well as 'out . If you want a guitar with less projection, less bass in the mix then it may be for you. I personally if spending £2000 plus on a guitar I would want a singing and dancing sound as well as a virtually indestructable construction. Emerald guitars do a huge range of models and designs as seen in their excellent website, this one as their entry level for my ears would be the 3rd choice out of these three. I remember when Ovation guitars came out at first and they had their 'own' sound. Many didn't rate them as all rounders in sound spectrum but they found a place and are still highly revered by many players. I reckon Emerald will have a similar future. Best of luck to them.

      In the comparison of the 3 guitars, the Emerald did project out a little less and a more string clicky sounding on the strumming compared to the Martin. However, I personally like it. I played the X20 and I liked strumming it and getting nice percussive string sound which helps me get the party started when performing.

    18:33 If I close my eyes I can't tell the difference or notice the transition between the Taylor, Emerald and Martin in this recording - they all sound like high end acoustic guitars on my audiophile headphones! The Emerald has the added benefit of comfort, low maintenance and durability. This video has really opened my mind as to why one should adopt evolving technology over tradition especially when it comes to musical instruments. Even the classic Martin D-28 model would have been considered as evolving technology back then when it was first produced.

    One of the finest well produced videos I’ve seen. Well done and thank you! Here’s a trick for restringing that I use with my Bigsby tremolo that should work with the pinless bridge. Set the string in the bridge as shown then pull tension on the string and apply the capo at the twelve fret to hold the string in place. That will leave both hands free to wrap and wind the string. Wind the string until you have adequate tension on the full string to hold it in place at the bridge then remove the capo. Repeat the process with each additional string. Now it’s off to the Emerald site to figure out how I can get my hands on an X20 : )

    I love my X20! I have three guitars in rotation, the X20, a Rainsong, and a Heritage 575. These three guitars are all great, but if I had to choose just one, it would be the X20.

    This is a fantastic review, I love the look and design of Emerald guitars. It’s great to have the Taylor and Martin for reference, sound wise for me the Taylor significantly wins out but so it should, it’s more than twice the price of the Emerald which is also cheaper than the Martin D28. I love carbon fibre guitars and own and play Ovation’s so I would interested to play an Emerald to see how it sounds and feels.

    I own both a Taylor and an Emerald, I prefer the Emerald in every way other than sound, I think the Taylor sounds more "natural". Emerald has more mid-tones

    • @TWhite-mq6uf
      @TWhite-mq6uf 18 дней назад

      That makes sense. Which model of Taylor? The attractive thing about the Emerald is not having to worry so much about my investment with the desert climate where I live.

  • @davidhampshire3762
    @davidhampshire3762 5 месяцев назад

    Yes, great review.
    With decent ear buds in was an interesting sound comparison between the 3 guitars.
    All 3 sounded different and in my opinion, all 3 sounded great, after 5 minutes of playing and getting used to whichever one you had, you would be in Heaven sound wise.
    So it obviously comes down to the other factors.
    With the X20 you've got amazing comfort, it's forever in tune, it has forever stainless steel frets and the finish is on another level.
    They are just beautiful and the fretboard has an amazing well oiled feeling to the touch which you notice straight away (but it isn't actually oily), the carbon fibre is so silky smooth.
    Plugged in it is awesome and the pickups on offer from Emerald are obviously well thought out and chosen to get the best sound from the totally different carbon fibre dynamics (I got Ghost Piezo + K&K).
    As the review points out everything is so well and intelligently thought out, the build process is precision and the material is uniform, these are definitely the future.
    Have only had mine a couple of weeks and straight out the box it was amazing, just perfection (as was the packaging).
    Not sure about the string replacement, how difficult can it be, they thought of everything else?
    But will order up one of those electric winders now : )

    Great review! But, in my estimation of this showdown, the Taylor sounded the best, and I’m not necessarily a Taylor fan. The Emerald sounded a little dull and slightly muted. Of course, this was determined from a RUclips video, so a live listening would be mandatory. But, the best looking is the Emerald, hands down (sorry for the pun)!

      @@emeraldguitars I will have to give it serious consideration as they look like very fine and beautiful instruments. Funnily enough I started looking as my daughter who lives in Cambodia was saying how her wooden guitar just never stays in tune. I think an Emerald carbon fibre guitar would solve that problem 👍 I use my guitars for my recordings and chose each for its particular tone. There again a carbon fibre guitar would bring something new. 👍

  • @valueofnothing2487

    No, I mean it doesn't sound like a Martin. It sounds closer to the Taylor. It might make a very nice electric/acoustic, or have a unique fingerpicking sound. It would also sound fine in a band - as the differences are not that much.
