@@gmaxi360 I have studied Indian and world history extensively. By your logic there won't be any country which can call itself as nation state in whole world. Ancient & Medieval India (which included present form of India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Northern Srilanka & parts of Myanmar) is and was always considered as single geographical identity for centuries (generally referred as India by Europeans mainly Greeks & Romans AND Hindustan by Turks & Persians). If there isn't oneness towards geographical identity called India, India would have disintegrated well before. Present existence of India is proof that our nation fiends its oneness in geography. Now what connects people of India - answer lies in Hindu ethos which gave base for formation of this Indic civilization. Institutions are basic facilities provided by governments, Institutes like IITS, AIIMS, Dams, bridges etc.. are minimum expectations from a government from tax payers money. Every country have such institutes and various East Asian countries which got independence at same time had better educational institutes (better QS ranking) & infrastructure than ours. Greatness of these institutes comes from achievements of students than facilities provided (I graduated from IIT-Madras). Pakistan has better percapita and development till it shot its knee in 1980's & 1990's by its involvement in afghan jihad and unstable governments + marshal laws. Bangladesh which formed in 1972 was facing instability & coups till mid 2000's. Now It's on track to reach almost same percapita as India (even crossed India once in late 2020-21). Srilanka has double percapita than India, So it's already a success story than India. Right wing extremism? Seriously - Correcting Indian History to giving equal representation & opportunity to every region isn't extremism. If you feel this as Extremism, Then this must be coming from your identity (you may be Muslim and feeling disenchanted that your cultural identity, which inform of Mughals may reduce its relevance) or ideology (which is engraved by left liberals like Romila Thapar, Bipin Chandra, Harbans Mukhia, Irfan Habib who influenced above thought). FYI - I'm neither BJP voter or Supporter. I am from Hyderabad and TRS voter. All I want is equal representation in history to all sections & regions of country. Indians from every part should feel proud of there identity (civilizational identity). It comes only when there proper history is taught in schools. Thanks for reading. 😊
I am ashamed and feel deprived that I do not know about many of the greats mentioned in this book. I do not want my kid to feel this. So, i have ordered this book and will gift it to my kid and will read it myself too. Also, i wrote to the Government that we should be given our history. Our next generations should not feel what I felt today...
Vikram, I studied History Honours in Calcutta's Presidency College. Even in the early 1980s we were articulating a view that "Indian" History is really "North Indian History". Forget South India, even Bengal, with a history back to the Gangariday civilization, did not constitute a significant part of "Indian" history.
Allah ki gaand me lulli aur anguthachaap jahil gando Nabi laudakhor tattikhor Muhammad ki badboodar ghazi haji namazi aashiq gay rasool pichwada me lulla ho Akbar to that
In other words, it is the ruling class history, history focused on the centre of power. History in most part is of the conqueror's history. Not of the lesse powerful one's. To know the otherside of the story we have to study the subaltern version. The Mughals had patronised Farsi, the British, English, the current gov't is forcing Hindi on rest of the country. Even Sanskrit the mother of most of the North, East os Western regional languages, were never spoken by common Indians except for the elites. The common ppl were not allowed to learn that if you are not to become a priest etc. Decentralisation is important. Federal structure would empower the different regions and will strengthen our democracy in the long run. Keeping the power balance healthy.

As long as there are English speaking economic powers English is useful for Indians, but other languages will dominate once those powers decline (which is inevitable). We should keep our Indian languages prepared with the rise of our economy as the possible language to dominate the world. But we should not jump the guns and completely shunt the English language now as it will be detrimental in many ways. As far as scientific terms are concerned, how is it a problem to use the English term itself? I mean, one main reason the English language thrived because it incorporated so many foreign terms and words. Even if words already exist in English, they have no reservation in taking in a foreign word as synonyms. It enriched the language. A famous Shashi Tharoor example is "loot".

I was waiting for the typical "BARKHA" moment . i.e the Burhan Wani example / narrative of Barkha. That is to mention Tippu as the son of a poor Soldier who rose up the ranks to become a ruler. How can history call the son of such a man tyrant?
Hinduism is the original. Hinduthva is a idelogy based on that. However Indian history is dominated by north Indian Delhi centric history as if Delhi is the only place there was a kingdom. It was Abbakka Rani from Ullal Chennama Rani both from Karnataka fought against British before Tippu but only Lakshmi Bai of Jhansi only gets a mention as if south Indians were twiddling their thumb. Infact South India is being now colinized by the Hindi centric narrative. Time for north India to start respecting south India as South India prosperity is supporting north. So time to revise this narrative.
People who come to Bangalore can speak in Hindi and English. South Indian languages are classical languages which are difficult to grasp for a North Indian. There is no disdain towards any South Indian language, I just see a lot of local people from Bangalore being anti resistant to outsiders for not being able to speak Kannada, including the guest on this show. Lost my respect for him the moment he said that.
@@dileevlogs1389 not sure why you're reiterating the same point again. Knowing Sanskrit or Bengali does not help me in any way to speak in Kannada. We're not talking about grammar patterns here.

Yes... He did fight against The British and died on the battle field in the forth Anglo-Mysore war 1799.. Problem with history books is the selective cherry picking of certain facts. Like the ones mentioned above and about the rocket launchers. What abt Melukote massacre? Tyranny and ill treatment of Mangalore Christians? State /Provincial language changed from Kannada to persian? If His contribution towards Sringeri Mutt is true, the wrath faced by Hindus and the 100s of Hindu temples destroyed is also equally true.. So Books should mention all the facts about Tippu.. Good, Bad and Ugly.. You can't hide behind only the Good by doing this selective cherry picking of facts. Right?
The name ‘Hindu’ was not thr in a region, later called India. It was named by a British. People were worshiping different gods and having different beliefs n cultures. The name Hindu has become very convenient for politicians with vested interests to collect votes in India to get to power. Hindu for peace is good and welcome matter but that’s not happening here. It’s divisive politics altogether now. No religion is saint in this world. Majoritarianism is always a dangerous trend in religion, whether it’s Muslims or Christians.

There doesn't need to be a difference. Hindutva meaning 'the quality or sense of being Hindu" , then what is wrong with that? But yes, if Hindutva is interpreted as going on a global rampage to impose the Hindu religion all over the world, we can agree that, such a thing is very bad. Whatever be our cherished wishes.... India as a political entity was nonexistent! Of course, we had lots of kingdoms which spread beyond the current border at some (limited) places e.g. cholas, cheras, mugals, britons etc. But, there never existed a united country (akin to the present Republic of India) except for a very brief period (that too comprising of 50-60% of contemporary geographic entity!) of mugal (Aurangzeb) or british days... As V. Sampath points out there is the need to teach a summed up history of our motherland from east to west n north to south... But, it is not as practical as envisaged due to the volume of "naattu rajyams and rulers" involved in there! So, it is better to give priority to recent past, struggle for independence, & peak cultural/ civilizational ethos. On hindu and hindutwa: Being a geographical unit, the dwellers of the subcontinent (including Pakistan and Bangladesh) maybe addressed as hindus. But, in political cultural or religious terms, hindu didn't exist prior to the "divide and rule" policy of the colonisers! As such, 80-90% of present day Indians are "non-hindu" or "ahinda" or "out-of-sanatan dharma". The Dalits, Adivasis, OBCs, and Sikh/Buddhist/Jain/Parsi/Muslim/Christian/Jewish minorities are all essentially "ahinda" Indians... Any move to split them and carve out a "false majoritarianism" need to be opposed and defeated by all peace loving Indian citizens..👍🙏

Historian? Joke of the day. This historian does not know that Mughals were not from middle east. For the information of this learned Hindutva Historian, Babur was a decedent of Mangol and Turk parents. Mangolia is towards north east of China. And Turkey towards europe. But Hindutva Historian has got his own version of history.
The Mughals were a branch of the Timurid dynasty of Turco-Mongol origin from Central Asia. Babar was born in present day Uzbekistan but he was raised in Turkey with Turkish language and culture. So, the historian is not wrong.

Vikram Sampath, I have purchased all your books. Thank you for your perseverance, hard work and thorough research! ❤
Vikram, I studied History Honours in Calcutta's Presidency College. Even in the early 1980s we were articulating a view that "Indian" History is really "North Indian History". Forget South India, even Bengal, with a history back to the Gangariday civilization, did not constitute a significant part of "Indian" history.
it's not North or South, it is Mughals. Nehru decided to whitewash all the atrocities of Mughals and glorify them. They were scared of Muslims
Allah ki gaand me lulli aur anguthachaap jahil gando Nabi laudakhor tattikhor Muhammad ki badboodar ghazi haji namazi aashiq gay rasool pichwada me lulla ho Akbar to that
It is north indian history it is delhi centric history
Guess all the "great educated" bengalis were buzy?
Vikram Sampath is a Rockstar! As long as the Vikram Sampath’s Sai Deepak’s Anand Ranganathan, Swapan DasGupta s are there, the Indic civilization storyline will never set

We can use technical words in sanskrit for rest of the language which joins all the languages. 1st homeland language then Instead of hindi make them all learn sanskrit as link language. And then a foreign language not focused on only english. Things will bloom

Being a geographical unit, the dwellers of the subcontinent (including Pakistan and Bangladesh) maybe addressed as hindus. But, in political cultural or religious terms, hindu didn't exist prior to the "divide and rule" policy of the colonisers! The Dalits, Adivasis, OBCs, and Sikh/Buddhist/Jain/Parsi/Muslim/Christian/Jewish minorities are all essentially "ahinda" Indians... Megasthanes wrote Indica in BC so India is historical,Bharath varsh is invention of puranas and other myths therefore Bharath is myth?
Barkha has a lot of immature but thoroughly brainwashed fan following. Check the comments.
@@arijitmaitra4825 only problem ........Turkey is not in the Middle East...from a famous historian I expect to know this fact
@@kasardevi8 Don't pounce on that little detail. Sampath is talking about something very serious and compelling. You are obsessed with little details. If he's made an error, I'm sure he will own up to it, and correct himself. It doesn't in any way, change the essence of what he is propagating, which is the gross overemphasis on Mughal history and other invaders' history, to the exclusion of the native Dharmic dynasties.
Why is this so important, this little petty detail. That is very correctable. But there is a larger task of righting the wrongs of history, and emphasising events, personages and achievements that were grossly neglected. Like Lachit Burphakan. Or Vijayanagar. Sampath is 100 percent accurate when he says a majority of modern Indians are unfamiliar with these individuals/kingdoms.
@@kasardevi8 Question for you- do you go to message boards relating to Indonesian, Turkish, Nigerian, Filipino, South Korean, Brazilian and Polish issues, including history? And do you discuss controversies with them? Or do you reserve all your finger wagging and denunciation for Indians, specifically Hindus?
This guy has good knowledge but qeak in logic. History is just one subject and not even the most important. Math and science are more imloetant. It is impossible to teach abt the 100 or so kings at school given that kids dont have the time for that. If we make it commensurate then kids will kearn nothing, because they will kearn just 1 para of every king which is useless. So better stick to more recent kings.i.e. beitosh, mughals, shivaji,et

Anti indian Barkha Dutt nailed by Vikram
His knowledge of history is very limited, he is only popular because of Hindutva government , that is all
fact is no ruler ever ruled on basis of elections, there weren't territorial boundaries that defined Indian nation in the form that it exists today, even when the kings of ancient era like cholas, guptas were ruling they weren't ruling the entire territory of India that exists today. Some were ruling present day South India, some present day Assam, some present day North India. Eventually the goal of all kings was to rule thats it. No democratic elections were held to elect kings. So being the largest democracy, India's main concern should be towards science and technology because that will only lead to progress. I am so thankful towards Nehru, for being visionary in 1947, when it would've been so easy for him to say let's go back 1000 years. Instead he said let's build IITS, AIIMS, Dams, bridges. These policies have made India's progress much more successful compared to neighboring countries like Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka. Right wing extrimism down down down.

@@kasardevi8 What do you think of the history that has been taught all these years in India? Why is it that so many Indians themselves are unfamiliar with so much of Indian history, including Vijayanagar. Vikram Sampath is from the south, so he certainly feels that ignorance and neglect more palpably. Why should Delhi receive so much attention, to the exclusion of other regions of India?
Barka ko jalgaya na...
Boycott!!!
Vikram sampath seems to be a sleeper cell of the RSS / BJP. He cleverly quotes irrelevant matters but quietly tries to dismantle the secular fabric and individuality of people. Maybe North Indians maybe trying to find their past...but south is clear and no one should try and spoil it.
Sorry we did not know that you have been elected as the representative of south Indians.
That's silly. Any intelligent person can see that Vikram Sampath is a very independent minded thinker, who is not subservient to a political party. He is absolutely correct about the neglect of the South and North East( to name two) in the teaching of Indian history. Can you refute that? Of course you can't.
