  • Whether you know its name or not, chances are you have seen the Fleur-de-Lis before. The Fleur-de-Lis is everywhere. In fact, it’s so ubiquitous that we hardly notice it anymore.
But where did this symbol come from and what does it mean?
We can’t attribute the creation of the Fleur-de-Lis to any single civilization or location, because no one really knows when it was first created.
References to it can be found in historical documents from Babylonia, India, Rome, and Egypt. During these times, the Fleur-de-Lis was known by different names and as a pagan symbol, it had various meanings.
Over time, the symbol’s meaning changed as it became associated with the Frankish kings in the 5th Century.

Very informative. I’m a Louisiana Creole and I’ve always known this growing up that is was a brand to slaves in that time. Now I wear it to honor to my ancestors and to my overall history. Thank you for diving deeper and giving us more information.

I can tell you that there is no honor in that symbol for our ancestors! Do you think those that were branded with that took it as a badge of honor? Do you think they whore it with pride? I think not and would never dishonor my ancestors who’s should I stand on who’s blood was shed to build this country that does not even see us as equals? You will never caught a Jew wearing a swatt sticker? Your comment is sickening and part of the reason blacks are in the same state as we were as slaves……

I found out that the Fluer De Lis is also used atop the Fish Mitre on the false god named Dagon. We also know that the Popes wear the Fish Mitre Hat too. Pagan, you bet it is.

The fleur-de-lis comes from my family… if you want to history behind it.. you should look into the mythology of the flerde lys -in Jerusalem Bible.. and ,far as I could find within my family history it goes back within two some ancient civilization called and Anunnaki which I have no idea what that really is ?? AlI I could fine is that it was a civilization before Egypt and was some how has relations to the the pharaohs god aumen … of Egypt .. and that they would use the blue water lilly and they would use it as a fermented -psychedelic drink to see their gods..

I wish some of these ancient symbols were used by their original purpose, not for horrible reasons like they used to use it. Reminds me of the Swastika

This and many other symbols are ancient and predate the French and many other empires. They have very deep esoteric meaning. forms of the "fleur de Lis" have been found as far back as Egypt and Babylon. Just because ignorant people use an icon or symbol for nefarious reasons it does not mean that the symbol is evil. Consider the Swastika -- is older than Nazism. It is seen all over the world in nearly every culture. Should people have to despise their cultural icons because it was adopted and used by idiots? All of those ill adopted symbols should be reclaimed and restored to their original esteem.

And all I can say, is I apologize for all of my ancestors I can’t undo their mistakes… they were just following the patriarchical rules.. what is sadly stigmatize.. which is no excuse for what has happened over the last 600 years.. behind slavery.. what was very negligent and naïve … families like the Fleur de Lys.. over generations have used subliminal messaging what causes mass confusion… then they step in and then they will step in an offer you options but they’re not your options. Making You - lead to think that you’re making the choice but really they’re given to you….. this is called mass organization and confusion…. And it gets even stronger every hundred years because each 4 generations has most likely have forgotten and disregarded about the true history over a century - then the government what they can do is rewrite the history, because it is forgotten… and if it is massley excepted, then it becomes the new normal.. and as truth to those people.. because that is what they have been led to believe, and all they have known mostly their whole life, but really, which most time leads them to conclude, that is the truth…

This symbolism, ⚜️ the fleur-de-lis originated in the pagan sun worship and fertility religions of the ancient world. I need people to understand that regardless if something is used intentionally or even in ignorance, the spirit that is behind it is what needs to be addressed. The fleur de lis is a pagan symbol and unfortunately I had to stop cheering for the New Orleans Saints because of that.
