Tim Conway had a series of comedy skits about a man called Dorf, "Dorf on Golf", "Dorf on Basketball". Absolutely hilarious stuff.
I really enjoy British comedies such as Up All Night, Miranda, Are You Being Served, etc... And other shows such as Inspector Morse and Lewis. I live in Texas USA
Full service is few and far between but still exists some places. Considering the number of elderly I'd think it would be wise to bring back for awhile.
Good point. Years ago I drove through some states where it was against the law to pump your own gas. I'm not sure that's still the case.
@@Hawk-ODA212New Jersey is the last and only state where it is illegal to pump your own gas. I understand some perspectives on why that law might be a good thing, but I still think it's better for people to have a choice.
@@japcar84 Thanks for that info. I was curious about it. Seems like I drove through Oregon or Idaho a few times where it was the law at one time. But that was many moons ago. I grew up when the attendant would put the gas in, check the oil level and clean the windshield. They would even check the tire pressure if you asked. Then they would take you cash, go ring it up on the register and bring back the change.
It was a job for people who might not have been able to do most other jobs. They've eliminated that job like they're trying to eliminate bagging groceries.
@@reindeer7752 I think you're exactly right. Self-checkout and electronic ordering via a kiosk seem to be trending in a lot of places. Thus eliminating jobs. Computers don't call out sick, require health insurance and other benefits, require job performance reviews, make worker's comp claims, have personality conflicts, demand $20 minimum wage, vary in the quality of their work, create hiring shortage, etc. So from a business standpoint it sadly does make sense.

This is in reference to time point 3:05, I live in Oregon and even in the year 2024 the gas station attendant pumps your gas for you
So glad you guys did more Carol Burnett show stuff! Please do "The Oldest Man" and "It's a Dog's Life." skit where Tim is bitten by a puppy and later thinks he's a dog!!
50’s I was an attendant at a gas station. Then you washed the windshield, checked oil and fluids and pumped the gas. Your job was to sell oil or coolants. Oh yeah maps and green stamps too.

@@franciet99 I hated handing them out in the rain. Boss hated them. Back then he made 5 cents on a gallon of gas. Sunoco forced him to buy them. They cost one cent per gallon.

Even after all these years since watching the show live, they still crack me up. Great props in this one. But props can only do so much. It's the presentation by the comedians that really make it funny. Nice choice guys. Thanks again for another great reaction.- Hawk

Try as best you can to get some Taxi episodes. In it's first few years, one of the best comedies ever on American television. Tremendously underrated great. Try these two episodes if you can get them: Louie drives a rich kid in his taxi; Louie becomes a stockbroker.
You surely had full service at some point in the U.K. !!! I remember when we switched to Self Service. I much prefer Full as a Senior Citizen. All this talk about Smart Technology and they can't figure out how to gas our cars up????? 😝👎 Tim Conway was underrated for his comic genius. Enjoyed watching this with you Gents from across the Pond !!! 😂
I'll admit that the Carol Burnett skits are real hit or miss for me, but this one was the best that I have seen so far. It made me laugh out loud several times.
They used to all be full service They would check all fluid levels and let you know how low they were wash your windows check c your wipers.
this kind of humor is all in the acting (presentation). The reactions have to match the consequences.

England had full service just like in the U.S., certainly in the 1960s and 1970s. By the 80's they started to become less and less.
I think you blokes would also enjoy the mid 1970s mystery series: Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew with Shawn Cassidy (David Cassidy‘s brother, also went to top of the charts at the time) and Parker Stevenson. It was a weekly event when I was a kid Shawn sang on a few episodes. This is one of them:

I have a recommendation you guys might find interesting regarding the Carol Burnett Show. The young lady in the cast was Vicki Lawrence, who started out on the show just playing Carol's sister in some skits. She later took on other roles, but her most remembered role was Mama in the family skits. (After Carol's show ended, Vicki starred in a sitcom called Mama's Family as the same character.)
In 1973, early in her Carol Burnet run, Vicki recorded a song her husband wrote, "The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia." It reached #1 in the USA and Canada. but was a OHW.
