  • On February 5, 1972, Reading 2102 ran a round trip excursion from Baltimore to Hagerstown, Maryland. A stop was made at Gettysburg, with multiple photo run-bys following. It was a brilliant, subzero day that made for an excellent show of steam. Special guests at Hagerstown include FA and PA-type Alco cab units; two WM FA's double-head with 2102 on the return to Baltimore.
I will always thank my father, Carl R. Baldwin, for organizing my first real long-distance steam excursion behind a giant locomotive which, I am delighted to say, remains in passenger service today in Pennsylvania.
