- The third stop of the Bassmaster Open series brings us to Buggs Island, VA. I've never been to this body of water, but I have heard so many amazing things about it. The first day went according to plan, and I can't wait for y'all to see. Buggs Island is on FIRE! It's crazy how fast the conditions changed and all the adapting that took place! I moved from Nacogdoches to near Raleigh and Kerr was a lake I was excited to fish. Big difference from east Texas. I’ve gotten better but the fish are simply smaller there. Had many of the same feelings as you when I moved here.
Way to come back. Middle of the pack at Toledo is a slip up for you. Still would like to see what went wrong. Expected a top 20 at toledo.?
Andrew! Loved your video, especially here in VA. Buggs is a flood control Reservoir! You can call the dam (Army Corp of Eng.) to get lake levels. 300' is full pool!
This was my first open it was an experience. I jumped in because buggs is my home lake. Nice job on your finish

@AndrewUpshawFishing I finished 14th I was slow to make an adjustment cost me top 10 but I am happy with it.
I think the cold hurt the fry guards more than water rising if it was warm they would have came up with the water.
What was your Co fishing behind you?

I finished 6th at the 1994 BASS Invitational on Kerr straight up site fishing so it is a viable strategy. The first day leader pulled a lower boat number and beat me to my best fish. Nobody else was on any of my fish the rest of the event. I won a Federation event in the same area blind bed fishing, higher water and not as clear. Well done 👍.

Flipping was created by Dee Thomas out here in California as a method to fish the Sacramento delta. It can be absolutely lethal during the right time of the year. Been doin it for the last thirty plus years…..
Glad you discovered the gloves, been wearing them for years. I used to use ` gloves and they are good but the fish monkey gloves and face guards are the best!
