Its a very fair point Michael. Unfortunately this part of Portland is not as clean and desirable as it used to be. Hopefully things will improve over the next few years. Maybe this building with the security presence and food pods will help change that a little.
Michael, I see you have kids. Why go out of your way to write a negative comment? Instead, rise above and just not comment. You do have kids, and I hope you want your kids to do that. That's how we affect change: through kindness.
Funny, I was thinking the exact same thing. 1.5M+ for a stunning view of a hooker blowing a bum and a junkie taking a deuce on the sidewalk all on the same street! Where do I sign?
The problem is Portland is dying. The lawlessness have made it a danger. Lots of businesses big and small have left including Nike etc. This is going to lose the Ritz Carlton a ton of $
I disagree that the city is dying, but do agree that there are many problems the city needs to overcome. The downtown and nearby areas west of the river have their problems, but east of the river where I live still seems to be thriving with new restaurants opening on a regular occurrence. Over the holidays I was talking with some friends located in the Bay Are and its a very similar situation there too. Downtown across the country have changed for the worst due to Covid and people are moving to the 'burbs for more space and home offices. This has a knock on effect with stores in the busy metro area closing down and as you say theft causes issues (e.g. REI), but areas such as Cascade station will continue to work well for large retailers. Thanks for your comments and interest in my channel. I hope you are having a wonderful holiday season and best wishes for 2024.
i used to live just three blocks from this, 8-years ago, it has only gotten worse. i live in Milwaukee now and dread every time that i have to go into portland. just taking the highway in is like traveling into a third world country with all the makeshift shacks and tents that line the highway.
Absurd location for a 5-star hotel. There is no "there" there. What are guests gonna do in that shabby neighborhood? Shop for used books? The RC would have been better located in the Arts District. (Museum, concert hall, theatre, restaurants, art galleries, park blocks, Saturday market.)
This is a fair point Richard. South Waterfront is also an area that has the newer larger modern condos. The Ritz Carlton was approved to be built back in May 2018 when downtown Portland looked quite different.

Nice that it gives you a panoramic view of the homeless, shoplifters and drug addicts

Amazing views and space! Thanks for the video!
Thanks for watching!
Food at Bellpine spectacular? Really? It’s subpar at best. Overpriced and the menu is very limited

This is downtown Portland, not NYC. After the used books store you can take a ride on the Max and see if you get shanked or not!
