I'm one of the people who drink only soda and yeah it's a problem, idk if it's like this for everyone like me but for me, water legit taste nasty, especially bottled water (which taste like coppery chlorine poolwater), I can sorta force myself to drink water for a bit but not only will it never taste even decent, but I also get what I can only describe as withdrawal symptoms, loss of focus, massive headaches, a sort of itchiness that seems to be everywhere and nowhere at the same time and well, a general want to go back to drinking coke, I never really cared about my health too much so I havent seriously tried going cold turkey before but in the times where I've been out of coke for awhile Its always been rough, luckily other than being overweight, (almost entirely due to the massive amount of calories from the coke) I'm not suffering any serious health risk but yeah, I do need to finally find soemthing else to drink at least sometimes. Tldr: think people like me who drunk only pop for years have gotten physically and mentally addicted and were a bit boned.

As someone who worked at Burger King during high school, it was horrifying to see people drink a 32 ounce cup of soda with every meal, breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The food may be unhealthy sure, but what scares me the most is the shear amount of sugar they were bombarding their body with. Every time I made and gave customers their drinks, I felt like I played a part in helping spread the diabetic epidemic we have in the US. Thankfully during my time there I never once drank sugary drinks since I stopped back when I was 13.

fun fact: there is a town in mexico where coke is literally cheaper than water. as a result, it kinda became a symbol of their town, with their residents drinking an average of 2 liters per day
As someone who lives in Mexico that is not as crazy as it sounds, with Coca Cola you know it is clean and safe to drink, this is not always so with water. A company company will also try harder to get it's products to a remote village than a corrupt government will try to bring water to its citizens.
Not true. But nice internet myth. It is true that sometimes the water isn't that clean, so soda (or any other bottled beverage, like say, bottled water) is the only clean alternative.

My mom used to work as part of Coca Cola’s marketing division. She told me that on the days of the month social security checks would go out, Coke would put their products on sale, so less fortunate people could load up for the month. Their marketing is directly targeting the poor. I don’t know if they do this anymore, this is just what she told me.
This is also one of the main reasons why America has such an embarrassing healtcare situation. You live to work, then you live to consume, that consumption makes you sick and in order to get healthy again, you'll have to work even more. People are so blind that they call this freedom. I cringed when I saw the ad calling soda consumption freedom of choice. The real freedom of choice includes the choice to abstain from this.
After seeing you say that Coca-Cola is advertised anywhere where someone would have a good time, it made me realise that seeing the brand name makes me happy for that reason.

in my brothers freshman year of university, he drank soda and red bull exclusively. i’m pretty sure he got scurvy, which i didn’t even know was possible in a first world country in 2017
It is possible and more than people think with the trash Standard American Diet and makes sense really. Scurvy is a carb. eaters disease and has zero to do with meat, contrary to popular delusions and old myths. It used to be commonly mistaken (and still is) that eating nothing but meat and not getting vitamin C gave your Scurvy. Cause it was the "Sailor's disease" and they ate a lot of meat and got no vitamin C. Well, those Sailors weren't just eating meat, lol, they were eating a sugary bread, hard tack too. It was debunked when a researcher wanted to know why the Inuit didn't get Scurvy but ate almost exclusively meat in winter. So he did an experiment and the first attempt failed, because they were cheating and eating sugar and got Scurvy. Second time, he got more trustworthy volunteers who stuck to it and didn't cheat and they never got Scurvy. So your example makes sense, eat lots of sugar and get little to no vitamin C, it's a recipe for Scurvy.
@@MrBilld75 Scurvy is not a carb eaters disease. The lack of vitamin c was due to a lack of micronutrient-rich fresh fruit and vegetables. The calorie content of which is primarily derived from carbohydrates.
@@Thomas-qi7hx What?! Lol. Carbs. without Vitamin C causes Scurvy, lol. It's exclusively a carb. related disease and this is basic science. *facepalm. People who don't eat carbs. do not get Scurvy, proven. I'll cop to it being an overly general statement that it's a carb. eaters disease, but it's not untrue either. Of course, it's a lack of vitamin C rich fresh fruit and veg. nobody said it wasn't. That's how they solved it with Sailors, by putting citrus fruits on ships, so they could avoid it and it worked. Sailor Scurvy was very likely caused by stuff like hard tack bread and getting no vitamin C. And considering their meat was preserved, they weren't getting what little vit. C there was in the meat either, because it does have some, but not a lot. Cooking and preserving would kill what little is there as vit. C is quite unstable and lots of things kill it quickly and easily.
@@MrBilld75 carbs has nothing to do with it. It is literally just the vitamin c deficiency. 'People who don't eat carbs, do not get scurvy' is a wrong statement. Someone who ate exclusively meat or fat or both will get scurvy if they don't eat a source of vitamin C. It's not basic science, I've studied science at more than a basic level. Ask your doctor. Check the scientific literature you'll see that's the case. If you can provide some peer reviewed proof of that statement I would love to see it.
@@Thomas-qi7hx Yes carbs. DO have everything to do with it, denialist amateur. Far more than anything else failure on C and how it works with carbs. Lol. Well, duhhh Captain Obvious, deficiency can happen for a number of reasons. But in the carb. eaters case, they need way more C. than low carb. no carb. diets as carbs. are competing against vit. C. The requirement to prevent Scurvy is 10mg in the context low carb diets. The likelihood of it happening to someone on a carb. rich diet without vitamin C is FAR higher than with say a Carnivore dieter. Especially if the Carnivore dieter eats some raw meat, which some do. A 100g serving of raw meat has at least 25mg of C, more than enough to prevent Scurvy. The experiment that actually debunked the notion it was meat related, long ago, studied the Inuit and why they didn't get Scurvy. Even though their diet is Carnivore in winter. Like do you even know the experiment?! It actually failed the first time, because the volunteers cheated and ate sugar and got Scurvy. It succeeded the second time with more trustworthy volunteers, who did not and mimicked the Inuit diet. They did not get Scurvy. So don't tell me it's not carb. related, hahaha.

in my brothers freshman year of university, he drank soda and red bull exclusively. i’m pretty sure he got scurvy, which i didn’t even know was possible in a first world country in 2017
It is possible and more than people think with the trash Standard American Diet and makes sense really.

I myself am working on drinking less. It is an addiction but I’ve been doing better later and I never realized how refreshing water is after being so addicted to soda. A key way to help drinking water easier is have water exactly where your soda is or in your living room have a pack of water there so it’s like “hey it’s right there might as well drink it” if you tend to be lazy sometimes like me
I drink a large amount every day but at no point am i forced to drink it. If I choose to drink something else that day and get a headache from caffeine withdrawal I'll just suffer through it. I just drink whatever is flavored before water.
I'm now 3 months soda free, best decision I've made this year.
Yeah I stopped it around 4 years ago. Even the diet stuff. My head aches cut right down and concentration levels went up :)
Good job. Soda is pretty much liquid sugar.

I worked for Coca-Cola for over a decade and can attest that some sales managers would sell their souls in order to increase sales. One told me that he would like to see Australian school children drink Coke with their breakfast. He also stated that the a long term goal was to replace tea with Coke in China. Having to taste test this acidic product on a daily basis has left me with three gold capped teeth.
I can bet you that these evil executives that push people to drink coke don't drink it themselves or give it to their kids.

I once went a whole month without drinking soda, just to say if I could and the changes I felt in my body were insane. I lost a lot of extra fat I didn't notice I had. My energy lasted longer throughout the day too. And once I lost the constant craving, I was stuck wondering how it pulled me in so much in the first place.

So glad my mom didn't stock the house with soda! It was a treat she only got on holidays and every other week on dad's payday we would go out and get a cheeseburger with a soda. As an adult I don't drink soda at all, choosing something a little more boozy for holidays and forgoing a drink at the drive thru to save a few bucks. The decisions your parents make for you absolutely shape your life.
we weren't allowed to get soda at restaurants because of the price, except on special occasions. And were never allowed to have caffeine ever. To this day I really only drink ginger ale occasionally. Still not good but the amount of soda I see people drink is insane!
Dude, I used to work at a gas station. We had our regulars, but there was this lady who came in twice a day pretty much every day, if not 5 days a week. She would always get 2 or 3 60oz cups of Dr. Pepper, no ice every time she came in. Sweet lady but huge with no teeth, and one time I heard her talking to one of my co workers about her having knee problems and went to the doctor and said she didn't know what was going on. I snickered, and when she left, I told my co-worker that if she didn't buy 240oz of soda every day, she would be fine. It sucks, idk how people do it. When I first started my job at this gas station, they said free drinks as long as you bring your own cup. Well, I went two days just indulging myself since I was bored at work. It wasn't until the third day that it stung so badly to pee I said ok that's enough. I never drank much soda before, but having it available, I went over board, never again
i had the same childhood growing up, soda rarely in the house, when i moved out on my own, i started to buy soda because it was something i rarely got to drink , now i had the freedom to buy it whenever i wanted, now unfortunately im hooked on it..

Currently about to go 2 years clean of any soft drinks. I'm positive that if I even have one shot of it now, it'll be like a sober person tasting alcohol for the first time in a long time
Vodka tastes way better than cola, and it doesnt even have a taste
@@user-is9qe9pe6d Yeah, but the burn feels good. At least hard liquors feel invigorating to drink; soda feels like drinking fizzy slag, comparatively.
Yeah, occasionally I’ll have a soda but I always need to have it with ice so that it gets diluted, drinking straight from the can is headache inducing. It’s scary how some people are saying soda makes water taste bad, like to me at least, water tastes so good.
My first year in college I had a seminar with a renown nutrition professor. She had a lab analyze the sugar content in a Pepsi and found that there were even more grams of sugar in the can than what was specified on the label. The next DAY Pepsi BOUGHT the lab and released a counter article debunking the original findings.
She closed with this:
Think about the tobacco industry at the height of its game. They only had a specific demographic and yet were known to have extremely powerful lobbying.
Now think about how much and how often you eat. Peak tobacco lobbying is absolutely nothing compared to the food lobbying going on today.

Straight up. Not everyone uses tobacco, but EVERYONE eats. It's terrifying how some of the garbage they sell are worse than any drug, yet perfectly legal

Quitting soda and energy drinks was one of the best decisions I've ever made. Balancing my poor diet with working out is just madness, and I truly started getting better after quitting soda
For me quitting soda helped immensely with my diet. Soda changes your taste buds so much that you eat more junk food to compensate with the sugar. When I quit soda I also stopped craving junk food (too salty, even with water). So weight loss naturally followed.
Same here, I drank that devil juice for years and I'm so glad I stopped drinking it. It's so bad for you.
I drank soda a lot but after I had braces I stopped and even when they were removed i didn’t drink soda I tried it and it tasted like diabetes in a cup
I don't have a problem with Drinking Soda- the problem people have i think is that people forget Soda is not a drink its a desert. Anything that has that much sugar (or frankly any sugar) should be considered a treat. To me drinking a Soda is like eating Ice Cream. You don't do it every day. In fact i don't drink soda with meals (normally i prefer beer regardless) i normally drink it on its own.
I think Soda fountains should make a come back- being able to custom order Your own flavors in Soda would be awesome and stress that this is a Desert.
The day i went cold turkey on sugar was the first day of the rest of my healthy life. Black coffee and tea and 66 pounds 8 inches less on my waist.

I absolutely hated soda as a kid as I didn't like the carbonation. It wasn't until sometime after high school that I started drinking it. Even then I drank craft sodas as they had significantly less ingredients than the big brands like Coke, but still filled with sugar. After drinking it fairly consistently I noticed I was gaining weight and breaking out in pimples. After that I stopped drinking soda as much and pretty much only drink them during christmas time. Even then, I strictly stay away from big brand stuff as i'd rather have just sugary water and not a bottle of high fructose corn syrup.

The fact a 12 oz was designed to be shared between three people and today, one person consumes 12 oz like it’s water says a lot about how the drink contributes to obesity!
I reduced my soda drinking to a small no name Coke chilling in the bag of my fridge for hangovers. This made me associate the taste with regret and headachs, which helped my weight a great deal

Thanks! I used to really hate the flavor of both Coke and Pepsi, but I kept drinking it occasionally for the caffeine. And I think I drank it more and more. And now it tastes good and I crave it. I feel terrible, unfocused, and tired like something is missing if I don’t get it. Anyway going to try abstaining for a few weeks and see if anything changes. This will be rough because I have been trying to stop and haven’t been able to. And note that I have gotten off of opioids (prescribed by a doctor but still had bad withdrawals) more than once without much issue. Like the first time I felt as if I was dying and the second time I got crazy anxiety, but I still got through it in a few days. I have a hard time skipping one day of soda.
I don't know much about your situation, but if it's the depenedency of caffine is the reason you're unable to cut out soda, you can try to take replacing it with coffee. Or even try taking caffeine capsules. They are very cheap, and can be easily bought online. Caffeine alone does not have long term side effects as far as I am aware. Although if you're looking for a long high instead of a "high high" I think something like Yerba Mate would be better. I haven't tried it myself tho.
