- Here are 20 celebrities and very famous people who have chosen to be buried in unmarked graves. Why famous and notable people chose to buried in cemeteries with no headstones has always been a mystery to me.
If you happen to know why, or if you know of others who are also buried in unmarked graves, please share with us in the comments section.
Thanks for joining me today on another nostalgic trip down memory lane and for sharing the memories!

Hi Steve...What a great video and tribute. Thank you so much for mentioning about what we're doing for Michael J. Dolan, Grave Visitations, Serenity Sue, and of course myself, Kris 'Peterborough K' Peterson! Of course, we have received permission from Michael's family and he will now have a marked grave after 68 years of being unmarked! Also thank you for wanting to help by contributing to his marker fund when we are ready, it means a lot. And like my friend Grave Visitations said we can mark more! Thank you, my friend, Steve! Your friend Kris in Canada! And as Tiny Tim said, "God Bless Us, Everyone." ❤🙏👋
Hi Kris, I think it’s awesome what you were doing for Michael J Dolan. I’m looking forward to contributing to his headstone and can’t wait to see it placed. and hopefully others in the future too! 😊👍
They don't want their stone to be a spectacle
Unmarked graves have always puzzled me. I too have wondered about the secrecy in not marking the grave. Interesting thoughts. Thanks Steve
Thanks for sharing with us Cathy!
Many celebrities prefer no markers for a few reasons, in my experience: 1. They want privacy in death after being in the public for years. 2. They don't want their grave to a pilgrimage site (religious tones). This is a bit like #1statement. 3. Family or estate can't afford a "dignified" marker. Thi iss touched on by the graveyard centered channels. Steve has commented on this phenomenon a few times.
The RUclips channel "Hollywood Graveyard has bought markers for the unmarked graves of celebrities (with family, heir, or legal permission) over the years. Most recently, one was finding the long lost urn containing the cremains of Ed Wynn. His urn had gotten misplaced and interred in another vault at Chapel of the Pines. It was found through a catalogging process of the private, non-public vaults. With family permission and viewer donations, Mr. Wynn's urn has a space in one of the columbariums at Hollywood Forever Cemetery.
Hi Steve, thank you for remembering these stars in unmarked graves and especially mentioning Michael Dolans unmarked grave. Also a big thank you for mentioning myself, sue and kris, with all our combined work I'm sure we can mark alot more graves ❤️ God bless Steve from Ireland 🇮🇪 it's channels like yours that really bring people's names and stories to light 🙏
Thanks GV and right back at you. 😊👍
Hi Steve, thanks so much for including Michael J Dolan in your video and of course showing our channels too. I'm always baffled by unmarked graves and especially more so by the more recent deaths of those mentioned in your video. Maybe it's their choice, who knows. Thanks again. Sue here in Ireland 🇮🇪
🖐👋
I am baffled too Sue. Thanks 👍
Hi Steve, I think most of the unmarked graves of famous people are not unmarked by request of the deceased but by their family for various reasons. Thanks for another wonderful video.
That’s my thought too Sue. 🥲
You're closing in on that silver play button!
Have a great weekend Steve and Jim!!
Lol it may still be a while. Thanks Anthony and the same to you. 😊👍
Thank you Steve for your great videos. 💞
Thank you Monika 😊👍
Great video. My great grandparents have no headstones but they died in the 50’s and apparently there was no extra money for headstones. I’m working on getting them one. I assume that some of these actors didn’t have money at the time of their death. And others just didn’t want anyone disturbing their graves. But who knows really? Interesting.
I hope you are able to get your grandparents headstones D!
I was surprised that famous people would be buried in an unmarked grave. I have also am amazed that so many have such simple markers and headstones.
Me too Audrey!
Steve what a wonderful video you did and i really enjoyed it i did not now that there were a lot of famous unmarked graves, thanks for sharing the memories.
Thanks Syreeta, and yes, too many! ☹️
When I heard about Kobe and his daughter I cried because I fan of the Lakers. RIP to all thank you. Great job. All of my favorite singers and actors.
This is really interesting, Steve. Thank you for caring for those who made our lives happier.
Thanks Avril!
So enjoyed this. A Christmas Carol from 1951 is my favorite Christmas movie ever. So sad to hear of his unmarked grave.
No longer unmarked..the family gave us permission to mark it!
@@TheSilentForgotten It was exceptionally kind of you, and others, to take that step. Wow, after 68 years, his burial plot is no longer anonymous. I'm certain that most of his living descendants have no recollection of him, at all.
I know, it’s very sad, but hopefully this will change all that. 😊👍
@Sheila Riley
In color. One year the film was broadcast on television in color and I thought it brought the film to life.
I know there are purest who think this film should only be seen in black & white, but I disagree.
Such a beautiful tribute to those who don't have a headstone, and so beautiful that they are trying to get the Headstone for Michael Dolan, love Grave Visitations and Serenity Sue, they are fabulous, great job as always Steve.
Thanks Colleen 😊👍
Some families don’t want to have to share their ones after they are gone like they had to in life. They want the persons grave kept sacred. Some people are worried about treasure hunters, theft and Vandalism. The fact Elvis had to be moved to Graceland due to a theft attempt is reason enough to leave the grave unmarked or make it private in other ways
Glad you mentioned Michael Dolan. I knew his face, but never his name. Thanks for sharing!
This was a fascinating watch , so many talented famous people in unmarked graves , I would say alot chose to do this to stop vandalism or privacy reasons as being in the public eye all thier life might of been enough for them , new subscriber here came over from GV and Serenity Sue
Thanks for letting us know about your channel Cemeteries Downunder. I will check it out. I love Australia and have visited a few cemetereis there myself, on two different visits!
@@TheGraveyardChannel thankyou so much x I love all the overseas cemeteries too , it's always fascinating to see the different types of graves and designs
Thanks Steve for another great video! You mentioned a few people I didn’t know had unmarked graves.
Huge fan of Roy Orbison. Running Scared and I Drove All Night are favorites. But I love them all🎸🎶😎
Great work! Thanks for highlighting those unmarked celebrities and those who have been cremated. It's amazing the number of celebrities who want to be in unmarked graves, cremated with no place to visit, and those in privately held graves. Thanks also for getting the word out about actor Michael Dolan's headstone project. I also didn't know about searching Amazon for headstones. I have a family member who is in an unmarked grave. Amazon will be a great avenue for a memorial marker. You're awesome Steve!
Thank you Troy. I hope you are able to get an affordable headstone for your family member. 👍
A great video Steve. One you have visited in the past, without a headstone is Barbara Hale, Della Street from Perry Mason. If I knew how to contact her son, I'd be calling him!
Thanks Eddie, I don't know how I forgot her. Guess I was having a senior moment, lol. :-) She will be in part 2!
@@TheGraveyardChannel we watch Perry Mason every day. I love Della.
Casey Kasem was also the voice of Shaggy in the original Scooby Doo cartoons. I loved listening to his radio show. His wife, Jean was a very entertaining lady herself.
His wife and kids had big battle for his body.
Happy Friday, Steve!! Wonderful tribute and informative as always ❣️😊
Thanks Leesa, Happy Friday 😊🎉👍
I had the misfortune of working for someone in state government who was a megalomaniac and crooked. He was very disliked by those who reported to him. When he died, his spot in his family plot is unmarked, and the cemetery office denies that he is even buried there. I surmise that his family prefers that he be forgotten by all, other than immediate family.
In cases like that it’s probably best that they are unmarked. Sorry you had to experience that Rob. ☹️
Hi Steve. Great episode. Thank you for joining Grave Visitations and Serenity Sue on the quest to get Michael Dolan markers.
Thanks Maureen. I’m glad that his family has agreed to letting fans raise money for his headstone. 😊👍
@@TheGraveyardChannel I’m know at both grave visitations and Serenity sue’s channel as Auntie Maureen. They are both very kind sincere people. LIKE YOU👍🏻
I think that in 50% (or more) of the cases like this, familial apathy or contempt are the reasons for no headstone. However, at other times, I'm certain that utter privacy is the motivation. Personally, I feel that everyone that receives a traditional burial, warrants a granite or bronze marker.
I totally agree with you on everything Zing!
Hi Steve. Another excellent presentation. I have very fond memories of laughing with my parents watching the Steve Allen Show back when I was a kid. I think that an unmarked grave is a humble last statement in many cases. Cheers 🦘🎶🦜
True, but still kind of sad. ☹️
Hi Steve!! Unless something has changed since I last looked, Barbara Hale is buried in an unmarked grave next to her husband, Wilhelm Katt (his grave has a maker). Thanks for all that you do. Love, love, love your channel.
Thank you for the reminder Laura. I’ve actually visited her gravesite. I can’t believe I forgot to include her. If I do a part two I definitely will. 👍
Hi Steve!! Another very interesting video. TY for all the work it must take to find this famous people! Great job!
Thank you Carol 😊👍
Hi Mr. Steve 👋 thanks for this great tour of these famous unmarked graves. I've always been fascinated with cemetery tours. You do a great job. May God continue to bless you 🙏 As always, I send you greetings from the great Peach 🍑 State of Georgia ❤️
Thank you Janice and the same to you. 😊👍
My supposition about why some celebrities prefer to have unmarked graves is that their lives, in many cases, have been very public. So much of what they have done is known by everyone. An unmarked grave gives them peace from the prying eyes and reserves something just for them and their family. Another unmarked grave, or at least the actual whereabouts are not known to the public, is Steve Irwin, who is buried somewhere, supposedly, within the Australia Zoo. I always enjoy your videos. Thank you so much for all you do to provide us with such quality content. Blessings.
Thank you m, you are probably right. And funny you should mention Steve Irwin. He’s mentioned in my video that goes live tomorrow morning. 😊👍
Thank you Steve for your channel it's such a pleasure to see this, many blessings to you and yours in the coming new year
Thank you Avery and the same to you. 😊👍
Another great vlog as always. Silent screen star Lon Chaney Sr is interred in an unmarked crypt at Forest Lawn in Glendale, unfortunately his crypt is off limits to the general public and Eddie Laughton, who appeared in many shorts with the Three Stooges is buried in an unmarked grave in sec.G at Holy Cross. If you recall the short " In The Sweet Pie and Pie" Eddie played the big game hunter who bragged about all the lions he bagged while getting hit with all these pies.
Thank you Steve, I will include them in Part 2. A few people have mentioned lon chaney sr, but no one has mentioned aEddie Laughton! 😊👍
Thank you Steve, time goes by so fast!
It seems odd famous people would prefer to not be named in death , makes you wonder why?
Yeah sure does and I agree PW!
Hi Steve, I learned about your videos from Kris Peterson, Serenity Sue and Grave Visitations. I knew most of the people that you mentioned in your video. Some I understand why they were unmarked, others I am sure they just didn't have the funds to buy a marker. I was surprised by Steve Allen. By the time he had passed, I don't know how many people would have made the journey to find him. He was a remarkable talent. I wonder if Steve Allen's wife, Jayne Meadows has an unmarked grave. She was a very talented actress.
I would recommend people to join the group to provide a headstone for Michael J Dolan's grave. The 1951 version of The Christmas Carol is my favorite. Thank you again Steve.
Jayne Meadows does have a headstone, which makes Steve Allen not having one even stranger. I don’t use Facebook, so I hope that Michael Dolan‘s fundraiser will be through a go fund me page or something like that so I can contribute. If not I will find another way to contribute to his headstone. I think it’s awesome that Kris and Sue and GV are raising the money to do this. I’m glad you found me through their channel. Thank you Sylvia. 😊👍
Thank you Steve. I appreciate your hard work on this.
Thanks Tom 😊👍
Thank you, Steve!❤️
Thank u Steve. As always, another wonderful video. What was sad tho, was the actor who worked for Disney, who died & wound of buried in Potter's Field. I hope one day, someone will inquire abt his remains, and place him with his father.
Bless u in this holiday season. All the best in the New Year.💯✌🏽❄☃️
I subscribe to both Grave Visitions and Serenity Sue, both very interesting vloggers in Ireland.
What a great video and tribute!
I have heard of some famous people buried under unmarked graves. Such as: Silent Film actor Lon Chaney, Sr., known for his roles as Quasimodo in “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” and Erik “The Phantom” in “The Phantom of the Opera”. Jazz musician Dizzy Gillespie who was known for his bent trumpet and songs like “A Night in Tunisia” and “Salt Peanuts”. British Inventor Richard Trevithick who invented the first Steam Locomotive, Actor and Comedian Sid Caesar who was known for his variety shows “Your Show of Shows” and “Caesar’s Hour”. He also played the role of Coach Calhoun in “Grease” and the role of Melville Crump in “It’s a Mad ,Mad, Mad, Mad, World”. Samuel Goldwyn was a filmmaker who would be the founder of Goldwyn Pictures which would merge with Metro Pictures to create MGM. Len Lesser was an actor who was remembered for his role as Uncle Leo on “Seinfeld”.
Hi Jon, you are awesome! As soon as I find enough of them I will do a part 2 and include all of these. Thank you for taking the time to send me this list. 😊👍
You’re welcome! 😄👍
I really enjoy watching your videos. I don't comment very often but your videos are very educational and informative.
Thank you Rick. I’m happy to hear that. 😊👍
Great story Steve love the story’s you post and the ones from. The past I’m getting to the ones of the pass now and loving them all thanks a lot
Thanks Ranger. That’s nice to hear. 😊👍
Great video Steve! Great tribute video!
Thank you Deb 😊👍
There's alot of reasons why celebrities doesn't have tombstones .
Thank you Steve.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your Family.
God Bless and keep y'all safe.
Same to you Gary 😊🍗🍗
Here in Germany, one can be buried anonymously. That means no headstone, buried in a section of plots with other anonymous graves. This is a possibility to save relatives money and effort to upkeep the grave (which they are required to do here). It is for these reasons that, in most cases, the deceased themselves request anonymous burial.
Another awesome tribute video. I really enjoyed it 👍😊
Thank you so much Jody 😊👍
Thank you. Very informative.
Great job Steve. Happy Thanksgiving coming up to you and Jim from one old turkey to another 😄
Lol, thanks Dana, and we’re not old we are just aged to perfection. 😂👍 happy Thanksgiving do you and your family too. 🦃👍
Hi Steve I noticed you changed the name of your channel & its close to 100K subscribers. Congrats👍
Thanks odalis 😊👍
I always wondered why there families don't give them the tribute they deserve
Me too Lucile???

You are getting really good at this!
Great information!

Thanks Donna 👍
Good stuff,thank you 😊
Thanks Dennis 👍
Always look forward for your videos. Thank you
Thanks Kira. Glad you like them!
@@TheGraveyardChannel You should have your own Netflix show
Thanks 4 the headstone information
Very nice steve
Thanks for this Steve! I have heard about GV and Sue's quest to get a marker for Michael Dolan. Sounds like they have permission now! That's great!
I don't know why famous people wouldn't want their graves marked. Although I know people conduct seances and etc. In grave yards. And I've heard of people chipping away at James Dean's marker to keep pieces as souvenirs! So stupid!
I have read about Bobby Driscoll! So sad 😞 what happened to him! May they all RIP 🙏 Marked or unmarked! 💕
Awesome Thanks Steve ❤❤❤😮😮😮😊😊😊
Love this
Great video Steve. I would like to add that actor Lon Chaney, Sr. is buried in an unmarked crypt in the Great Mausoleum at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Glendale, Ca. He is in an area where you can visit his crypt if you know how to look for it. Also something interesting is that when actor Errol Flynn died in 1959 his widow would not put a marker on his grave. Two of Flynn's daughters had a marker placed I believe in 1979, but not sure the date.
Thanks Angst. I’ve visited Flynn‘s graveside a couple of years ago. I didn’t know that it had been unmarked prior to that.
Love the videos ✌️
Thanks Michael 😊👍
Another Great video, Looking forward to the next one. take care & God Bless.
Thanks Shannon 👍
@@TheGraveyardChannel yvw!!! My Friend.
Hi Steve, you must have heard about Robert Clary's death by now. Would it be nice and possible if you could find his gravesite once he is buried and let all the Hogan's Heroes fans know where the location would be at? Also keep up the great work that you are doing.
Hi Adam, yes I will definitely be searching for it. It usually takes six months to a year before famous graves are discovered and marked, so it may be a while.
I wonder if Robert will be buried at Hillside Memorial Park with his wife, Natalie Cantor, daughter of Eddie Cantor.
@@TheGraveyardChannelIt's also worth noting that Robert Clary was also a Holocaust survivor. He was among those that survived Buchenwald when U.S. troops liberated the camp.
HI STEVE ,, THANKS FOR YOUR SHARED UNMARKED GRAVES VIDEO!!! SAD .. IF THERE UNMARKED YOU DID A GREAT JOB FINDING THEM.. THANKS,,...
Thanks Ronald 😊👍
Really fascinating vid... Wow !!
Glad you liked it Joe. 👍
Hey Steve; great video👏👏👍🙏
Thanks Runar!
Thank you, Steve, for this interesting video.
Thanks Nancy 😊👍
Thank you for sharing it's so sad it feels like they don't care but I guess everyone has a reason why no head stone 🙏🥺
So very very cool!!!!
Great video.
Thanks Kim 😊👍
What an interesting video. Thanks.
Thanks Renee 😊👍
great video sir
Thanks Brandon
Debbie (my late wife) was able to determine Steve Allen's gravesite when the location was not originally publicized (I then added that info to FindAGrave), and she also learned simultaneously that the apparent reason why the plot remains unmarked was due to a dispute, or some other kind of disagreement, w/i the surviving family members circle, this despite the fact that the interment space of his spouse, Jayne Meadows (to his right side), is replete w/ one (go fig). The movie mogul, Samuel Goldwyn, also rests adjacent to the aforementioned film director George Cukor, and who therefore also is devoid of a memorial tablet. Folks such as film actors Spencer Tracy and Paul Walker, and singer/songwriter Bill Withers, only have their last names which are inscribed on small marble plaques to identify those landmarks as well (meaning no headstones). Auntie appeared w/ Denver Pyle in an episode of the TV western series "The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp".
Sounds like your wife was a terrific investigator like you. That must’ve been fun to have that in common. We are all very thankful for people like you who have made it possible for us to visit his grave sites. Thanks for sharing all that, very interesting! I forgot about Samuel Goldwyn. Thanks for the reminder. If I do a part two I will definitely include him. I’m sure you told me when we were there. Thanks as always Craig! 👍
@@TheGraveyardChannel Ah, my Mrs could be very persuasive in her manner and obtain data in which the others she would communicate w/ might not be too inclined to initially divulge; a definite talent there sorely missed. Goldwyn should be noted if only for his Goldwynisms, such as what he suggested for his epitaph: "Include me out!". Or another appropriate one: "If I could drop dead right now, I'd be the happiest man alive".
Hi Steve ! Very interesting ! I didn't know some of celebrities . But I remember some of the shows . Lots of them passed way to young . Thanks for taking us along on your cemetery tours ! Take care and keep on vlogging your great vlogs!! Happy Thanksgiving ! Deborah Canada 🇨🇦
Thanks Deborah. 👍
Thanks for sharing another video about honoring the dearly departed movie stars
Thanks Scott
I would think privacy. They lived their lives publicly, so maybe in death they just want to be left alone.
New to channel. Keep up great work! ❤️🇺🇸
Thanks Cathy 😊👍
@@TheGraveyardChannel Smiles, You are most Welcome Sir! 😊❤️🇺🇸
Excellent video, I’ve been to the cemetery where Steve jobs is, that’s where Shirley Temple is as well …

Nice video sir..
Thanks Arnold!
Great info Steve 2thumbs up always in Penna.
Thanks Alex 😊👍
Good channel sir. Informative also.
Thank you Joseph. 😊👍
Hey Steve good morning great video LOL it's always to me personally to seem like a damn shame that someone that has passed away and not have a marker or memorial of some kind. You know they say"you die twice, once when you physically die, and the second time is when people stop saying your name"
I agree Dwayne!
Thank you Steve
Thanks Rosie 👍
Learned so much from you . RIP angels
Thanks Beth. I’m happy to hear that. 😊👍
Hi Steve Denver Pyle also played the patriarch of the well known Darling Family on the Andy Griffith Show.
Bobby Drisoll suffered from addiction issues and that is his suspected cause of death but I have no doubt his official cause is heart attack.
Fred Gwynn also appeared in Pet Sèmetery and was the judge in My Cousin Vinny.
May they all Rest In Peace, might be they are in unmarked Graves because the family is tired of the fans harassing their loved ones and they want them to rest in peace
Thank u
God bless you to your caring compassion. 😇💞
Thank you Tamson!
Awesome
😊👍
Love your hat by the way 👍😁
Thanks GV 😊👍
Hi Steve, A Beautiful Video of the Celebrities who Brought us such Joy, But want to be remain in an Unmarked Grave. I Figured that they were in The Public Eyes for so long, and just wanted to be Left Alone, When they Passed Away, and just RIP.
Thanks Jill and you were probably right. ☹️
I watch both of them they have great channels
