The best instructions on the internet with real information. I have had four Italian skiving machines, two ALPHA and two FAV for fifty years and to this day I grind them this way not because someone showed me but because mistakes and failures led me to this way.
This is THE BEST maintenance video I've found on the NP4 and like models anywhere. Thank you so much for showing the removal, however simple it was, to those of us that just use a machine without know how they work.
Just got my np4 and this is first video I’ve watched that showed making a double bevel on the blade. Also first time anyone mentioned setting rpm to 4500. Vince at leather machine co suggested I watched these after he helped me as well. Thank you!!!
Cechaflo on here has a 4 part video on this style of machine. his is an older Fortuna. pretty much the same as this but not lol.. i want one but i do seldom project just for fun...
Thank you for a great video. I know this might sound like a silly question but once you get the double bevel on your blade do you do anything different with the sharpening during a job or, do you sharpen the same way you shown here every time even to touch it up? Thanks for your help, keep up the good work love your videos I know they’ve helped me so much.
Thank you for this video, I’m new to my new skiving machine np4. I’m just trying to understand about the double bevel, is this what I need to do to sharpen my blade to get a smooth skive or the single bevel, I guess I’m confused sorry? I’m trying to skive 3.5 ounce leather to a 2 ounce and I’m not getting a smooth skive it’s choppy skipping certain areas across the leather so I’m sure I need to sharpen my blade. I think once I understand how to use this machine life will be a lot easier. Thanks for your help
Good evening, tell me, I may have a problem, the sharpening stone always spins, no matter what position the lever is in (top or bottom), what could be the problem?) If you know)
how many times can you sharpen this? seems like it takes so much off as it grinds for a long time. i know nothing about them. i want one but i do this as fun. not a job.
The Skiver blades last an incredible amount of time. It’ll take you many years to wear through a blade if you use the machine as a hobby/fun. Thanks for watching! I hope the video helped you and good luck on your future projects!

Glad you like them! Keep that blade sharp and that double bevel will do wonders.
This should be the number 1 result for bell knife replacement!

@@vanplewco I was trying to skive upholstery leather and destroying it. It goes right though it now
This is to completely reshaping the blade.

Looks like the demo was an NP 4 .. is there any Difference on an NP 10 ?
Absolutely zero difference on sharpening the blade from the NP4 to the NP10. Yes the demo is on the NP4 but everything is the same as for sharpening.

Hello
I performed this task on my skiver and now my leather won’t feed through. Any tips on what I may have done wrong or what could be the issue?
You have to play with the settings. Generally, all problems start with bad sharpening.
Too much grinding.
