The Kingfish was, of course, corrupt, but was genuinely populist. He fought for better education for the poor, the right to organize labor unions, and he pushed adult literacy, which mainly benefited African-Americans. His public works projects employed thousands and built hundreds of roads and bridges. He fought the entrenched and powerful interests in favor of the common man. RIP
I disagree that The Kingfish himself was corrupt. Throughout his political career he fought the corrupted aristocracy and large corporations. In order to beat them, he was forced to fight fire with fire. He stated he wished it did not have to be this way, but he realized what it took to gain the power necessary in order to help the average man. He was a brilliant Governor and Senator. It is very possible he would have beaten FDR in '36 for the presidency. Personally, FDR fought The Kingfish anyway he could because he realized how popular Huey was. Everybody now remembers how FDR used his "fireside chats" to help the American people through the war. The Kingfish was making nationwide radio speeches long before FDR and the people were mesmerized by him. It is not difficult to project that if The Kingfish had been elected president in '36 the U.S. would never have fought in WWII. Huey hated foreign entanglements with European countries. He was a great man cut down by right-wing adversaries. There is much more to the assassination than what is presented in this simplistic vid.

Huey's campaign style was a juggernaut. The fictional treatment of this was of course Red Warren's 'ALL THE KINGS MEN'. And Willie Stark. In real life of course, many thought Huey Long was going to run for President. He did indeed pull Louisiana out of terrible conditions - bad roads, appalling poverty, nothing for African Americans, no bridges and roads, no education for many. He did a great deal that was positive, but his methods were often questionable. He had no hesitation about 'going after' anyone who opposed him; this he must have made many enemies along the way. Among them, the Dr. who shot him.
From my extensive research on the life and history of HPL over the years, I only spotted one inaccuracy in this video. After he was shot, Huey did not stumble into the arms of his "personal bodyguard" down the hallway, but into the arms of Louisiana's Secretary of Transportation (down the hallway), to whom he remarked his famous, "why the *&&) did he shoot me?" .. For his personal bodyguard to say otherwise to the person in the video, makes me wonder about the veracity or accuracy of anything else he may have said to him.
This was fascinating ... the story about it being "not uncommon" for people to take potshots at Huey's car (12:30) reminded me of how a custom automobile (a Cord 810) supposedly commissioned by the Louisiana government for Huey recently turned up in British Columbia. A guy named Gary Morgan had purchased it and was disassembling it for restoration, and was surprised to find 3/8" steel plating fitted inside the doors and behind the back seat. Production delays (plus the custom work) may have explained why the car wasn't delivered to Louisiana until after the assassination. There was a debate on a vintage cars forum about how credible the origin story of the Cord was, and the skeptics were claiming that a) that model wasn't officially unveiled until the NY auto show a couple of months after Huey's death, b) Huey wasn't known as a "car guy" so he probably wouldn't have been interested in anything so lavish, and c) armour plating would have been a bit extreme for the time. But the gunshot story suggests that this was a credible threat and hence the armour plating may have been viewed as a reasonable precaution, even if it slowed the vehicle down (Morgan claimed that it added 400 lbs).As for the other points, I'm thinking that there was probably a fair amount of advance publicity about the Cord since it was an innovative and flashy new design, so people may have heard about it months before the show. From what I've read about Huey, he liked things that would get him lots of attention, plus he wasn't hesitant about embracing new technology -- and he was known for driving right up to speaking platforms in a shiny new car (painted blue to stand out from the usual black). He'd said that it helped his image, to show that he wasn't afraid to be different. He learned how to drive and campaigned by car in 1918 even though more experienced politicians warned him that it would antagonize rural voters.
I visited that place .. that cabinet wasn't there ...when went there ..we even got followed up ...to the viewing balony area ..looking over Louisiana..

There has never in the history of America been more of a DICTATOR, more of an enemy of DEMOCRACY, then Huey P. Long.
And that, my friend, is a fact.
The real DICTATORS are the ones that starve our children to get richer while "serving" the people. The ones before and the ones since Huey.
