I am not a craft hoarder. I'm the curator of an extensive private craft supply collection. (Not my saying, but I have to remind myself occasionally). Yes to watching, buying, and organizing my stuff too much. I do, however, check my inventory. If I have something similar, I don't buy it. New tools, however, I don't usually succumb to the hype. Often, it's not really new, just reimagined, and I survived for decades before I retired only buying what I wanted for my yearly holiday cards, using the same die cutting machine, etc. I have bought new tools but I'm very selective. I don't need a glorified laminator, die embossing machine, etc. Looking forward to the summit.

After about 5 years of stamping, I am now at the stage where I don't need the same items as the creator I'm viewing and starting to use my stash. Self realization takes awhile. Great "talk".

😱OMG!!!! Hello ladies, watching on replay and I feel like this is an intervention. I have so much and I know I need to destash but I can’t destash what I have not used 😳!!!! I have been trying to watch videos and then find something in my stash to put my own spin on a card idea. 🤦🏾‍♀️What to do? I have also limited myself to watching only certain makers.
Thank you ladies for this video! It helps to know we are not alone! 💕

Justine, I "window shop" also, put it in my cart and then think about it for a while. I still have beautiful papers from several years ago because they were too beautiful to cut into! Now I'm starting to just go ahead and use it! There will be more beautiful papers coming out later! I like your ideas of finding something similar, not having to buy new ones! Thank you gals for all of the great suggestions!

Caught this on the replay and enjoyed it so much. The other day I happened to glance into a corner of my crafting storage area and realized that the three oragami paper pads I purchased about 10 years ago contain about 2,700 sheets of 6x6 paper! I need to select the patterns I know I'll use and donate the rest--I'm sure that will be about 1,000! 😂🤣😂 I have a VIP pass for next weekend. Have already started watching these sessions-yay!

Awesome video... After years of DTs & crafting... I was so done with my crafty hoard... I had enough to open my own store... I ended up gifting away what I could, till I ran out of people and places and then I tossed the rest... new, used, opened, or whatever, straight into the dumpster... I had to get it out to give me a fresh start... and now, I am where I need to be, crafting and enjoying my supplies... 40 black trash bags, 20 bankers boxes of 12x12, 6x6, and all kinds of cardstock, and endless stamps and dies...It's the best thing I have done and now I only create for myself and love it. Now I only buy if I run out, if I really need it, or if I really love it after I have left it in my cart for a week or more... and if something comes in, something has to go out...

Thank you Justine and Laurel for making this video! My only regret is I wish I had seen this when I first started card making! Had I done so, I could have saved a ton of money. Seeing your video has, one the other hand, made me realize that I am not alone is making these errors. In that I can feel some relief and less guilt. 🙄 However, having realized the errors of my ways, I plant to “let it go” by purging what I won’t use and get back to simplifying my card making. Once again, thanks!! Cheers! 😊🇨🇦

Not only all of the craft stores, but one thing that bothers me is that when you sign up for a craft seminar, watch each crafter's video, then, to get the supply list or written instructions, you have to give them your first name and email address. So now you can be bombarded with emails (daily or weekly) from each crafter! Then you have to go in and unsubscribe from most of them, or it's just overwhelming! Don't know why if you get their "freebie" item, you have to be automatically subscribed. It would be nice if they sent you whatever you requested and ask you if you would like to subscribe to their emails. Wow - I'm done...just wanted to get that off my chest...you two are great!

I really appreciate these conversations. I have way more arty supplies than I will ever use up but I still like watching the videos. I had an interesting experience recently that had me thinking about my "stuff". I went to a scrapbook expo - quality companies, wonderful products and great classes on the schedule. I was glad to see good attendance for the businesses but for myself - I realized I already had many of the items available or things similar enough. I realized I already knew how to do many of the skills that were going to be taught. It gave me an appreciation for what I have. "Cute" stuff - I don't do. I saw a lot of kits - I'd rather do my own art. I need to do more creation and less shopping. But I hope more people get interested in creating. Thanks so much for your generous gifts of teaching and sharing thoughts.

I have ink pads I’ve owned for at least a decade and the company doesn’t make that line any more but I bought the reinkers and I’ll probably be able to use them for another decade. I also own wood mounted rubber stamps that are not made anymore but believe me I’m not getting rid of them because I love them AND still use them.

Hello Ladies!! I am watching on the replay and what a fun session! This hits home for me because just yesterday I was telling my hubby that I really need to stop buying 'stuff' because I am running out of space to put it all!!! NO joke! I even vowed not to buy another crafting item for the entire month of September...I failed miserably! 🙄 What I am now trying to do is 'use what is in my stash'...we all know we are told that several times and I am going to get my courage up to go through my stamps, dies and paper and gift it somewhere within my community. It just needs to be done.
Thank you both Justine and Laurel for the encouragement I needed to stop HOARDING craft supplies!! Love you both!! (I am signed up and looking forward to the Crafting Summit next weekend!)

Great video with lots of good points. I have several monthly subscription kits/products. Two are kit subscriptions I’ve been doing for 2-3 years. When I first got back into paper crafting in 2020 after 20 some yrs, they helped build up my embellishment stash with kit extras like sequins, Nuvo drops, pastes, ephemera. But the reality is I only really LOVE a few of those kit stamps and dies, and now have loads of embellishment products. This past year I have been following a few creators who regularly come out with pattern paper templates (cut up sheet and make multiple cards). I’ve been making multiples, using those templates or using layering stamp, die or stencil sets to make multiples of same design but swapping out color paper or ink. I usually put simple generic sentiments that can be used for different occasions. I then either donate or gift sets of these cards. I was also an independent demonstrator for one company, but lived in a saturated area, so when I couldn’t meet the sales quota would end up buying products that were limited edition but that I didn’t really like. So, bottom line, I have quite a stash, even after making bulk cards.

This was a great discussion. I realized so many of the topics you mentioned were just like me i.e. tons of patterned paper, complete set collector, and talk about kit subscriptions. I have so many kits unopened and unused. I wish I had known some of the facts about ink pads that you shared earlier because it probably would have saved me from investing in to many different brands. I am getting better about checking through my supplies before purchasing something new. I wish I was able to look at my stash and come up with my own designs. I'm a great borrower of others designs. I'm getting better about trying to use what I have in my stash to make similar cards that I like.

(Second time typing this. First time was deleted when an ad popped up... - sometimes I want to 😵 YT..)
With having ADHD, (recently diagnosed) I've learned that if something's out-of-sight, its also out-of-mind. So I try to display my most used craft products as "decor" when I can.
The ADHD also means I switch from one craft to another fairly often. With much trial and error, I've learned that even if I'm bored with something, I just need to box it up and store it until I get the "itch" again... That way I'm not repurchasing the more expensive tools, etc. - repeatedly! Of course many supplies work with multiple crafts, so those are the ones that I try to keep easily accessible. Some crafts I turn to often when I have a few minutes to do something I really enjoy. I'll have enough supplies to keep me busy once I retire (in 10 years) - at least until I'm 109, I'm pretty sure!!!
Maybe someone will do a class on how to organize for people with ADHD.... 😉

For me, its all about the fact that I have learned what I enjoy. Sometimes I still want new things.
I have let go of some things.
I'm changing up my organization and getting to the point where my craft area is joyous.
In July I did a 93 card personal challenge to build up my stash. I have some card set gifts to give, I have a ton of Thanksgiving cards to make (about 80), and a steampunk journal to gift in November.
I want to have 100 cards made by the end of October, and that journal finished by the end of the first week of November.

From a master artist. Buy basic rainbow colors of any ink etc. These inks CAN be blended and ALL colors are derived from the basis colors folks. Black and white are not considered a "color". As an artist who sculps, oil paints etc. One brush or canvas can far outweigh the cost of an ink pad or blending brush (hence, cards are my play - fine art is work :)). I stick with Ranger inks. I won't buy others. I have all the basic colors and am not drawn into the NEW stuff unless I absolutely WANT it. I stick with my colors that I LIKE. I stick with stamps for things I like to do. Maybe it is the artist in me that gives me this frame of mind. Most times I can think and create far beyond most on RUclips. Just wanted to throw some artist advice for the newbies to card making. I agree - DO MORE and spend less. CREATE don't just learn. Learn techniques and then DO them. Hope this helps. If not - go price a fine artist brush - just one - ha ha ha

Don't know if anyoned else does this but regarding Paper - If its a limited edition, etc or something I just LOVE, I Scan it! then I'll have it, even if it's no longer available. This is just for my own personal use, so I'm not infringing on any copyright, and I often ask the artist or company if that's ok, especially if it no longer available. So many times there's a paper I just LOVE, but it's gone, bye-bye. Then I print it on really good quality paper.
My printer is an HP Laserjet Pro MFP M479fdw, it does everything but make coffee! - a little pricey in the beginning, but I only now replaced the sample cartridges after 2 years! It prints magazine quality, so for that reason it's so worth every cent. Around $549 2 years ago. I need good quality for my office work and clients, but mostly for me - photos, greeting cards for family & friends, etc. If the final product is important, then you need good tools.
Thanks you two for the video. Your ideas and info are invaluable!

Yep, I, too, am a curator of card making supplies... Don't actually make too many cards, but I'm trying. Thus far, my learning curve is incredibly steep, and I'm not satisfied with my efforts. Must learn to be more patient. Sadly, tools don't make the expert, which is a hard lesson for me to learn!😂 In the past, I've been a kitchen tool buyer...and I *don't even cook*! It was very expensive day-dreaming for me... Cookbooks? Have a couple of hundred...but have opened only a few. I am such a gadget hoarder....

Watching the replay..... Justine, I have been doing what you mentioned.... if you don't have that die or tool, you won't watch the video. I had to watch all the videos, but since I was "collecting" not "creating" , I made myself stop watching. However, I will still click on the video to give it a "tick" to the video as I am supporting the person showing their work. I will also click "like" .

Watching the replay. I do watch cardmaking videos and I tend to buy a LOT of the things I see but don’t really need. 😳. I do agree with Laurel though…I don’t buy any gnome or Halloween stamps because that’s not my thing. I am a clean and simple card maker, or at least I think I am.

My problem is the videos I watch showing new products or techniques. Such nice cards are created that I have to have the same products to create the same card. I also love flowers and have sooooo many of them in either stamps or dies.

I forgot about the time zone! I even set an alarm for the wrong time! Watching late! I have a horrible hoarding problem! I let close to 1/3 of my stash go before I moved in March, and put some more in storage for a later garage sale. I really watch too much, and do too little!

I wish certain craft companies had more options for their emails. I don’t want to get daily emails, but prefer the option to only get 1 email a week, but this is not an option.

Bought all CTMH papers and inks and now they are no longer so I feel I need to get all the Stampin Up colors. Now I need to spend time using up the paper that is old or give it away. So instead of just watching videos, start watching one and make the project and share.

Guys, I was SO ranting one night about how much time my daughter spends on her phone. I'm like, what the heck? Why are you watching people playing games? Why don't you grab a friend and play a game? 3 seconds later, it hit me! How much time do I spend on my phone WATCHING PEOPLE MAKE CARDS, instead of making my own cards???
🤦😂😂😂 Technology has us enslaved, for sure!

monthly releases is very overwhelming, so much so that I have stopped listening. I do want to spend my money on Justine's products though. It's on my to-do list, I have my eye on last year's Christmas release.

What ever about what we all have 'collected' I am in the throes of trying to empty my Mum's craft room (she passed 3 years ago!) it's so hard to find homes for the stuff and throwing it away is horrifying. I am in Ireland so we don't have the same options for re-use as maybe States. I was thinking about a charity that could take craft stuff and give to maybe schools or groups or re-sell?
