Dam !! Thanks not sure why I didn't think of looking on RUclips earlier to solve my problem. Car been sitting for almost 2 years. Couldn't get it to run. Watched this video running perfect in 10 minutes.
I upgraded my revo 2.5 to 3.3 not to long ago and I haven't been able to get a good tune on it and this helps allot by the way I have a quick start and disconnected the motor and added a pull start and kept the part with the glow plug igniter and it works good for me
Hey brother. I just got a traxxas revo 3.3 and I’m new to this rc stuff, I could tell my car was running rich. But will that make it bog down when it shifts into second. I ran my car yesterday for the first time and it bogs down when I go to hammer on the throttle. Do you have any idea what could be causing me to bog down
I was a small engine mechanic for 32 years and on those you go 1 1/4 turns on H and L in this climate where I live but I am a virgin when it comes to these little nitro engines .
She was sounding a bit lean to me at the end when you were running it. I also didn't see any smoke. Maybe it was just me, but she did sound pretty lean.
Very well explained brother! I wish those stupid Traxxas DVDs that come with their nitro rc's explaining how the TRX 3.3 motor needles do what in correlation to how the carb affects the 3 needles. I actually finally learned how to tune a 2 cycle RC motor after building an HPI Baja SS kit with the stock CY 26cc motor and learning how to build and tear down. After that tuning any 1/10 mill is a breeze especially once you stick with a certain recommended glow plug and nitro fuel oil/fuel. After using Byron's Gen2 20% and the stock Traxxas glow plugs I've been running the same TRX 3.3 on my Revo 3.3 Platinum Edition for 6 years already and it still starts right up! I just hate the Kyosho KE25 nitro mill they have on the old inferno gt2 cars my god worst motor ever!
Hello, Very informative video! I am a novice newbie and I have a small problem with my T-Maxx 3.3 engine over heating in wide open throttle with body on. I think I got the idle set pretty good at temp 170 or 180. When I run it with body off my temp is around 270 to 280. When I richen it a little to lower the temp when running it wide open with body on it tends to bog down a little and will not go into 2d gear. Other concern. My idle needle on carb next to blue boot is set at 1/2 turn out. If I use factory 2.5 turns out the motor will not idle and cut off. Any suggestions or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Hello! Set your High speed needle 1/16 of a turn clockwise, Then set your Low speed needle 1/16 of a turn or more counter clock wise, also how long have you had the 3.3 it gets hot alot when its dirty and gunked inside the engine, Traxxas makes good trucks but not really good engines, PM for more info!
Thank you! I replaced the glow plug with colder one and that fixed my over heating issue. I've had my 3.3 for 5 yrs. Recently basically rebuilt motor new crankcase, new crankshaft, ball bearings. The only thing didn't replace was piston & sleeve. Also rebuilt carb. I started using a tuning logbook for tracking settings based on outside temp & humidity. This will ensure safe operations and longevity of motor. Thanks for reply from Bryan Retired Disabled Marine Veteran!
All of you good people who are having a hard time time tuning your 3.3 Traxxas and having to constantly adjust carberator. This is what you do: Take the head off and add a shim be sure you have 2 under there. Than go buy 30% fuel, o'donnel race is what I run. The Traxxas 33% also kicks ass. With more Nitro in the mix you must richen both needles 1/2 turn out. Go a min. of 4 turns on high speed and 3 on low. this will vary with outside temp., altitude and pressure. basically adjust high speed by making a full throttle run and taking the temperature. As long as you don't exceed 200°F and have a min. of 170°F . That is your widow period, I don't give a rats ass about anyone's opinion on that. I own 8 Jato's 4 with big blocks in them.4 with 3.3 engines.1 with a navarossi small block and 1 with a O.S Tm. All 8 are highly modified in many different ways. I eat sleep and shit Jato so just pay attention!! If it don't say Jato don't buy it.
What glow plug do you use on these settings? Ive had a Exceed Nitro Forza and im guessing tuning is the same as that engine except for how many turns. But I want to thank you. Because now I know my engine is running to rich as I hit the gas and it studders and then takes off. And even warmed up it likes to die when I let it sit still for more then 15 seconds. Ill try leaning it out and see if that fixes my issues and comment back if it fixed it or not.
great video I'm going to try your setting as I'm having problem right now, Also would like to ask you with installing the pull start, did you have to do anything else? your right, I been out a few time to have the battery die on me and there is nothing you can do to start the truck when that happens, So i'm wanting to put a pull start on.
So with the high speed needle and low speed needle which way do you turn the needle all the way in? clockwise or counterclockwise? and what turns are you doing backing it out counter clockwise or clockwise
I don’t know if you found out since, but if you tighten the screw (to the right), the needle will move down, this will close more the gap and will let less fuel pass, this means it’s leaner.
Hey! yo seems to know very much about these engines! whats the original settings for the idling screw? I tried your settings on the low and high speed needle and it did good yesterday, but today it wont start..
mine was set at 4 turns out factory which was fine for the first 3 tanks. then tank 4-5 I noticed it falling on its face being too lean. turned it out 1/4 turn and was fine. it's at 4 1/4 out but I might see if it needs to be just a tad bit richer next run and also fine tune my low end.
hey thanks for the thank full video it helped me out a lot but ive been having a problem with my glow plug it burns out like nothing and i just got a new one and its already burned out
Before you go leaning out your high speed setting make sure you properly break in your engine with the factory settings. If you start making adjustments right away like this video implies your going to loose your engine very quickly and your warranty will be voided.
So I have a traxxas slayer pro and I've been running it 3.3 motor and what do you think how many turns I can go out that will make it run a bit cooler bc the motor is running hot and it's at 4 turns out but I want to run it safely to not replace the motor please respond thank you
Any thoughts on this, i have richened the lsn from factory about an eighth of a turn and the hsn the same and it wont run below 230-240 even when idling it or 1/4 throttle blips on second tank of gas, think its just running hot due to tight clearances?
Idk what's going on with my trx 3.3. At 4 turns out on the high speed screw it's really lean, almost no smoke. It only starts smoking and running right at 4 1/2 turns out... But it does really good there so ???
I’m lost lol I have done all this at least 30 times of watching your video and still can’t get to work, jato 3.3 will not stop tires to spin and just stay on but without moving unless I press the throttle like a normal car why can you help
hey i have traxxas t maxx 3.3 when I start it up it runs for a few minutes then stals I start it back it stals agian then when i try starting it keeps on staling is this a tune problem?
Every time I star my revo 3.3 it wants to take off, and when I apply the brake the engine quits on me, I'm new to nitro I don't know what to do plz respond.
When it gets up to speed and goes “brrppprrrpp” and cuts out that’s hallmark too lean, you’ll get more power but if you don’t watch your temps and runtimes good way to burn the motor up.
That's what I'm talking about the video is great but this truck has issues I have a few nitros there tuned and run great but this thing seems to have no sweet spot it's been in shops by the previous owner and has never ran. I had it running good once the next day nothing but more issues lol.
I've had two cars with the E-Z start to and have never had a problem out of either of them the only problem I ever have is with my nitro sport the fuel line wrapped around the head so the fuel line gets very hot so after running it if it stalls out and I have to start it again I have to prime the hell out of it and that causes a lot of extra load on the motor draining the battery very quickly but we all know nickel metal hydride batteries are not that great that's why I will eventually be moving to lipo
The video is. Miss-information. At the end of the video that engine was running far to lean to be safe. (It’s based differently on either how low or high you are above sea level)
Take out the glow plug (metal plug in the engine) then put 3 drops of oil inside , then what you wanna do is pull the pullstart 3 times and put back the glow plug and the wire.
just switched from traxxas to byrons 30/9 much better than traxxas bc traxxas gums up byrons won't my HSN is at 4 turns out lsn is flush engine Temps right around 215-220
Hello. I did my T Maxx 3.3 break in today.... what a pain it was!! on the 5th tank of gas, every time it shifted to 2nd gear it would stall and cut off. any ideas on how to fix that? i finished the engine break in, but it was frustrating. i want to tune for performance tomorrow. And the engine temp seemed to be high.
I know it’s an OLD video but I wanted to comment. Lean is NOT GOOD, rich is better... unless you don’t mind replacing engines. Altitude will really make a difference with tuning, so does the weather. Get a good temp gun, like what is used in the HVAC industry so you can check temp now and then.
Anybody have Any helpful tips or advice on break the engine I’m very new to all this and trying to figure it out but I don’t want to attempt it and ruin my engine
Thanks I am just trying the average rc lover that wants the most out of any part/upgrade! Try running your car leaner what is happening is your engine is getting to Much fuel and over working your glow plug therefore burning it out. Try turning the HSN in by 1/8th turns. If you have a traxxas car then use traxxas part #3232X I have sound that this works the best! If you need any help post another comment in detail and I will post a video explaining.
So you really need to elaborate to people what you mean about 3.5 turns if anyone is reading this a turn is a full revolution one full counter clockwise turn
Do you not follow the break in procedures? Its set 4 turns from the factory to do the 5 tank break in process. Just telling people to adjust the high speed how you like it is going to screw alot of people up.
I had a TrX 3.3 and I've been running it just a week since I bought it, and I know I did something wrong with my tunning bcuz when I pull the trigger then the engine sound its like its going to shut off and lots of oil coming from the exhaust.. What should I do? I might turn it back into stock but I didn't know how? I need ur advice in this case thank u so much....
Hello I am kinda new and I have a revo 3.3 (the older model) and I need help because it won't start if anyone could give me help I could send a video and mabye up someone could give me tips to get it going this would be much appreciated
OK. This pisses me off a little bit. The stock settings of 4 full turns out on the high speed and the low speed is flush with the inside of the throttle lever slide. When you tell people its ok to set their carb at 3.5 turns out on a brand new engine....that's just WRONG!!! You are giving new comers bad information. The reason traxxas has their engines like that from the factory, is because it's years of research and development on these engines and it's what they found to be a real good starting point to "BREAK IN" their 3.3 engine. Now tuning for performance, AFTER THE ENGINE IS BROKEN IN COMPLETELY, could get you down to 3.5 turns or even 3 depending on outside air temperature and other variables like nitro content, humidity, etc. If you have been BREAKING IN your 3.3 engines the way you've explained, then you will never get the full potential out it and you've decreased the long term life by about 3 years.
Dam !! Thanks not sure why I didn't think of looking on RUclips earlier to solve my problem. Car been sitting for almost 2 years. Couldn't get it to run. Watched this video running perfect in 10 minutes.

Hey thank you because of this video you solved my flooding problem and also the gas in the exaust and now my nitro car runs better and faster

I clam ez start is problematic ,,,, never had any problems
Brand new yesterday slayer pro 4x4 as start motor sired a slice of a tooth off and froze
I have two fourteen year old traxxas monster truck's a sport maxx and a t-maxx and the easy start still works good.
LEANER IS MEANER 💪🏼

Thank you sir!

thanks for the video very informative and helpful.
It doesn't always start out rich you have to take in consideration the ambient Temps in Northern alberta in the winter you need to richen that mixture
great video I'm going to try your setting as I'm having problem right now, Also would like to ask you with installing the pull start, did you have to do anything else? your right, I been out a few time to have the battery die on me and there is nothing you can do to start the truck when that happens, So i'm wanting to put a pull start on.

Awesome video thank you for the tips!
I bought a used 3.3 truck and the connecting rod failed I don’t think it was a tune issue now I’m looking to rebuild or get a new engine.
Thanks for the tips!
Thank you for this video
what mod is that you did on the throttle servo? there is no big box anymore, just the mount
So with the high speed needle and low speed needle which way do you turn the needle all the way in? clockwise or counterclockwise? and what turns are you doing backing it out counter clockwise or clockwise
Hello, Explain, Turning left is to lean, Or turning right is to richen the low speed needle.

close it all the way and 4 turns out is factory settings
My glow plugs keep blowing what would u recommend More lean or more rich it’s white after it blows
Hey man I have a question about a traxxas t-maxx 3.3 I want to know how to tune the engine and transmission to make some wheelies thanks.
mine was set at 4 turns out factory which was fine for the first 3 tanks. then tank 4-5 I noticed it falling on its face being too lean. turned it out 1/4 turn and was fine. it's at
4 1/4 out but I might see if it needs to be just a tad bit richer next run and also fine tune my low end.
i guess it is quite randomly asking but does anybody know a good site to stream newly released tv shows online?
@Keanu Lance Try flixportal. You can find it on google :)
@Musa King Thanks, I signed up and it seems like a nice service =) I really appreciate it !!
@Keanu Lance You are welcome :)
Not sure if anyone will respond, but what's the P/N for that air filter?
hey thanks for the thank full video it helped me out a lot but ive been having a problem with my glow plug it burns out like nothing and i just got a new one and its already burned out
Before you go leaning out your high speed setting make sure you properly break in your engine with the factory settings. If you start making adjustments right away like this video implies your going to loose your engine very quickly and your warranty will be voided.
What causes it to feel like there is so much pressure you can't hardly pull it?
did some tweekin and adjustin looks like a good gap now
So I have a traxxas slayer pro and I've been running it 3.3 motor and what do you think how many turns I can go out that will make it run a bit cooler bc the motor is running hot and it's at 4 turns out but I want to run it safely to not replace the motor please respond thank you
Can you go from a 30% to 20% or is the engine already used to the 30%?
you can switch but requires re tuning
When you say keep the air filter clean. How do you clean it? Water or water with soap? I don't know?
Air filter cleaner / oil.
What's crazy on my 3.3 factory setting and about half tank I'm getting 312 at glowplug
Any thoughts on this, i have richened the lsn from factory about an eighth of a turn and the hsn the same and it wont run below 230-240 even when idling it or 1/4 throttle blips on second tank of gas, think its just running hot due to tight clearances?
What clearances
Did it overheat and burn out the glowplug at the end?
sounded like it ran out of fuel
Ya I would get a pull start way more reliable and easier for maintenance! Subscribe for more videos;)
How do you get it to not shift when off road like the clip at the end
Idk what's going on with my trx 3.3. At 4 turns out on the high speed screw it's really lean, almost no smoke. It only starts smoking and running right at 4 1/2 turns out...
But it does really good there so ???
I’m lost lol I have done all this at least 30 times of watching your video and still can’t get to work, jato 3.3 will not stop tires to spin and just stay on but without moving unless I press the throttle like a normal car why can you help

the centrifugical clutch has siezed.
I will get her going it's my mission
Aren't you supposed to run it rich for break-in?
Thanks man n yea my easy start won't start my car both lights r on but nuthn is turning
So what was your idle problem
When it gets up to speed and goes “brrppprrrpp” and cuts out that’s hallmark too lean, you’ll get more power but if you don’t watch your temps and runtimes good way to burn the motor up.
That's what I'm talking about the video is great but this truck has issues I have a few nitros there tuned and run great but this thing seems to have no sweet spot it's been in shops by the previous owner and has never ran.
I had it running good once the next day nothing but more issues lol.
Thnks that helped me a lot :)
can u show me how to make my trxs 3.3 deeper sounding
I've had two cars with the E-Z start to and have never had a problem out of either of them the only problem I ever have is with my nitro sport the fuel line wrapped around the head so the fuel line gets very hot so after running it if it stalls out and I have to start it again I have to prime the hell out of it and that causes a lot of extra load on the motor draining the battery very quickly but we all know nickel metal hydride batteries are not that great that's why I will eventually be moving to lipo
Would you know what the factory setting for the high idle screw
4 turns counterclockwise from closed.
Hear I am 7 years later and I bought my first nitro!!
Hi I am new to traxxas nitro i am using stampede nitro 2.5 could u help me to tune the engine.
this video is weird? it used to have a intro and the voice is different.
hi what was the nitro % u use on it that not work with may trx 3.3 i use the 20% nitro heelp
Yilmaz Oba I have a 3.3 and I use 20% only by traxxas
If your engine doesn't start try doing what he did in the video 3/5 turns out
when you say 3 turns is that from open?
Storry Vlogs my understanding it's from closed. you turn it counter clockwise from all the way in.
Is richening the engine tightening the screw?
Joshua Andreyev no the tighter it it the leaner it is so if you loosen it it makes it more rich
Colten Walsh ok thanks
How can I email you ? I need help wit my slayer traxxas pro 4x4... I need a tune up
The video is. Miss-information. At the end of the video that engine was running far to lean to be safe. (It’s based differently on either how low or high you are above sea level)
Mine starts up then shuts right off plz help
how so, like it slows down and stalls? might just need to make it idle a little faster, but take this with a grain of salt.
will these settings still be ok at 5,000ft above sealevel?
Bro why are you 5000 ft above sea level tf
how can I put oil in my 3.3 engine please answer soon.. thanks
Take out the glow plug (metal plug in the engine) then put 3 drops of oil inside , then what you wanna do is pull the pullstart 3 times and put back the glow plug and the wire.
are they full turns for 3.5 or full turns
1 half turn is .5 1 full revolution is 1 turn
On the low speed needle is it 2 turnes in or out
3.5 to start
just switched from traxxas to byrons 30/9 much better than traxxas bc traxxas gums up byrons won't my HSN is at 4 turns out lsn is flush engine Temps right around 215-220
Misled 1979 yes man it is frustrating for me already for first tank break in and damn the engine was to damn hot already grrr ughhhh hate nitro
Turn it 1/8th counter clock wise
2.5 on low? Stock setting is 1 3/4 to 2 turns out..
god damn you take your sweet time on getting to the facts
I'm new to nitro. Start mine and it immediately wants to take off.
Did u fix it
my engine hotting in 2 minutes. how can I prepare the problem???
Make it leaner
i have a easy start for my revo but its not fun to turn on my revo 3.3 is runing in bad gearing
Need help on my slayer 4×4 pro i have to keep my finger on the tiger on my remote for it to keep it on if i let it go it turns off please help
Adjust your idle screw for more fuel when idling.
***** does it mean adjust the hsp
Freddie Rodriguez Check your clutch shoe, the spring might worn out.
Thank you well do Daniel sjolie
+Daniel Sjolie that's what I was gonna say I had the same problem and it was the clutch
Anybody have Any helpful tips or advice on break the engine I’m very new to all this and trying to figure it out but I don’t want to attempt it and ruin my engine
Traxxas has a video on how to break in the engine
I just posted a vid that should answer your question thanks.
I need help tuning my revo 3.3 please help me anyone
what's wrong with it
Ok. Hers one for the nitro crowd. I have 3.3 revo. Runs great but after a hi speed run or a full throttle blip the engines dies What gives
Pretty positive your running wayyy lean cuz 4 .5 is break in I think
4 is stock/breakin. Yours might be different depending on where you live and what engine you have.
trx 3.3 and new york
NY exactly so your tuning setting are going to be totally different bc of your climate/fuel or gloplug.
i used these settings and it wont start changed glow plug also
I think you have to adjust the low speed because my traxxas 2.5 was just like that
Check out my revo its nrly a full mod I love these trucks out of all my rcs past and present the revo is king.
Just telling people to adjust the high speed how you like it is going to screw alot of people up.
if there so stupid to do word for word what a guy on the interwebbs is doing instead of what the manuel said to do they should not own one of these
I had a TrX 3.3 and I've been running it just a week since I bought it, and I know I did something wrong with my tunning bcuz when I pull the trigger then the engine sound its like its going to shut off and lots of oil coming from the exhaust..
I make the problem??? sorry for prepare is wrong... :-)
Can you tell me how to adjust my engine on a traxxas revo 3.3
Glen Hansen he has literally just shown that in this video.
