Welcome to the final concert in our 2023-2024 season "Can You Imagine!"
This afternoon we're going to tell you lots of stories!! You'll hear stories about a cat, a life on the seas, a made up tale of Mozart making a Go-Cart out of a harpsichord, the tale of an elderly gentleman who experiences one catastrophe after another, the famous "Jabberwocky" by Lewis Carroll, the breathtaking vastness of the Arctic sky, and a poignant story of a youth making a difference.
As always, we are proud to be featuring many works by Canadian composers, one of whom will be on stage with us multiple times today, Nicholas Wanstall.
We welcome back Guest Artist Emily Luo, oboe. Emily has just graduated from the Glenn Could School of Music and will continue her pursuit of a professional career in music at Rice University in Houston, Texas in the fall.
We are sincerely appreciative of the attendance today of Bhutila Karpoche, MPP for Parkdale-High Park and are grateful for her support of children and youth in our community.
Our final song today, Song for the Mira, celebrates the spirit and wonder of a beautiful part of Cape Breton, a 55 km slow-flowing river called the Mira. Allister MacGillivray's text captures the spirit and wonder of summer as we take time to slow down and enjoy times with friends and family and appreciate our own relationships with special places that evoke peace in our lives.
Thanks to everyone for supporting the music-making of our Young Voices throughout the season. May you create wonderful and imaginative stories this summer.
