Props to the crash victim. He stayed calm, despite being injured and even told his mom to back away and let the first responders do their jobs. A lot of people in this situation would be panicked or freaking out, but he stayed calm and gave a good recount of what happened. The bystanders were also compliant to move back. It was a jury trial. They found him not guilty. And it sounds pretty reasonable considering that the drugs were only found a while after it was out of his possession, by a random person. The bag was not in the custody of the police, it was not being monitored, that's more than enough doubt that it wasn't tampered with, legally speaking. Also totally irrelevant to the tragedy. Charging him with the drugs after the crash already happened wouldn't have undone it.

I know it sounds cliché, but age ultimately is just a number whether or not you wish to accept that. I’m not sure what the mystery is. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out. What's wrong with the courts system is not judges, per se, but it's definitely the min-max charges they can give for certain crimes. We need to increase the penalties for certain felony and misdemeanor crimes. What worked 75 years ago isn't working anymore. People are more educated, more capable and generally more dangerous. With access to more and more dangerous stuff. Technology constantly changes, as do people and crime. It's time for justice to evolve and change as well. Sometimes judges aren't the problem. It's the bullshit arbitrary lines they have to stay between when handing down a sentence. Otherwise they risk being hit with "cruel and unusual," punishment. As if they aren't criminals!!

If you want less people in jail, then you need to focus on preventing them from committing jailable crimes instead of just letting them go. Once people get away with something then they just do it over and over again, and often escalate it. The family should sue the people who let this guy out and dropped charges for serious crimes if only to force them to go on record and explain themselves.

@@bonchidude Making career criminals is really stupid. It's like you want increased crime or something. It's way better to put a fence at the top of the cliff instead of an ambulance at the bottom. Give kids like this some way to succeed other than drugs and you might find what the rest of the world did - a falling crime rate since there's less perceived need to get involved. No wonder the US has the highest prison population, and worst gun violence, out of any developed, 1st or 2nd world nation on the planet

Pro racers spend months and years training to handle their vehicles at extreme speeds there's also the factor of tuning, they have no idea the amount of work those cars went to be suitable for racing super expensive tires specifically designed for more grip, antiroll bars, aero modifications and many more stuff.

He should’ve been in jail a long time ago. Why won’t the courts hold these young people accountable for their crimes, how many times does it take for the courts to realize there is no hope for that young man lock him up and throw away the key. He had plenty chances to change his life. He chose not to he must pay the consequences. His parents should be ashamed of themselves for not putting a stop to his behavior along time ago.

They are extremely soft on juvenile offenders. Also, cops can't chase cars in the city if the suspect is driving dangerously. So what do criminals do so cops stop following? Drive recklessly, like going into the other lane of traffic or drive on the sidewalk. It's a bizarre situation. In Europe we would never let things get this bad. The requirement for 1st degree murder is intent. While I very much share in your anger and disgust, they don't have enough grounds to prove that this was planned out and intentional. Nonetheless, there was way too much gross negligence when it came to the previous punishments the courts imposed on this delinquent, as well as the issue with the "counselor". Such an unnecessary loss of life, just to try and come across as lenient, and a reckless continuance to try and show that second chances are better than imprisonment.
